    Fall 1 2013 Week I: August 26 - September 1

    Introducon to American Football - Thursday, August 29, 12:00 - 1:00 PM in SYMR 203. Learn

    about how the game of American Football is played! There will be drinks and snacks provided.

    Dont forget to aend the rst Home UNT Football Game Saturday Aug. 31, 6:00 PM at Apogee

    Stadium.

    IELI Welcome Party - Friday, August 30, 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM at the Union Ground Breaking

    Ceremony located at the Library Mall. Celebrate the beginning of a new term at IELI!

    Bring your IDs for the free picnic. This is a huge historical event for UNT. The President will speak

    and there will be many things to do.

    Lunch and Learn: UNT Student Organizaons - Thursday, September 5, 12:00 - 1:00 PM in SYMR

    260. Learn about dierent organizaons on campus, all while eang lunch! This is a really cool new

    event IELI has created to make sure YOU, the students, can be beer connected at UNT. Make sure

    to bring your own lunch!

    IELI Kickball Tournament - Friday, September 6, 5:30 - 7:30 PM, at North Lakes Park. Kickball is a combinaon of soccer

    and baseball. All American students play kickball during recess or free me in school especially when they are young. It is

    an American tradion. The rules are easy, you do NOT need to be athlec to play, and this game will be too much fun to

    miss out on. It will be IELIs compeon of the year! Compete against IELI sta and your friends and fellow students. Sign

    up in Ambers oce (SYMR 202) by Friday, September 6, if you would like to play.

    If you have not made your tuion payment

    yet or have not signed up for the payment

    plan, you need to pay your tuion

    IMMEDIATELY, or you will be pulled from

    your classes. You can pay online with a

    credit card, or you can pay with cash or

    check at Student Accounng, ESSC 105. If

    you want to sign up for a Payment Plan,

    please go to Alissa (SYMR 205) to sign up.

    Each week, Amber,

    Kae, and Hamza will make a Weekly Update video of

    important events and announcements. If you would like

    to star in one of the videos, please stop by SYMR 202 and

    talk to Amber, Kae, or Hamza. This is a great way to

    pracce your English!

    Lab Orientaon for new level 4, 5, and 6 students will

    be held on: Friday, August 30. Your teachers will hand

    out passes with your scheduled me. Lab Orientaon

    is required!If you forgot your EUID and password, the

    IELI Lab can help you nd that informaon. You need your this

    informaon to access Blackboard.

    Interested in an opportunity for internaonal women to

    meet American women, pracce English, build friendships,

    and share experiences? Then Ladies Group is for you!

    It will take place at a local volunteers home bi-weekly on

    Wednesdays beginning August 28 from 5:15 - 7:30 PM.

    It is open for women students ofevery level.

    Feel free to bring your children. Snacks will be provided.

    Transportaon is provided if

    needed!

    We will all meet by the EagleStatue outside of SYMR at 5:15.

    UNT is a smoke-free campus. No one will be

    allowed to smoke on campus, including in buildings,on the sidewalk, and in the parking lots. You are

    allowed to smoke across the street ofUNTs campus or

    in your closed car on campus. This means you cannotsmoke outside of SYMR or MARQ between classes. If

    you have quesons, come see Amber in SYMR 202.

    Are you a Communicaon Level 3 - 6 student? Would you like to make a new friend and pracce English outside of class?

    If so, you should sign up for a conversaon partner.

    Conversaon partner sign-ups: Monday, August 26, to Friday, September 6.

    To sign up, go to ieli.unt.edu and click on the Conversaon Partner Student Form.

    The last day to sign up for a conversaon partner is Friday, Sept. 6. You cannot sign up aer this date.

    If you sign up for a conversaon partner, you must aend the Conversaon Partner Party on Thursday, September 12, at 5:00 PM

    in SYMR 203. You will meet your conversaon group leader at the party and decide when you will have your weekly meengs.

    Dinner will be provided.

    Students in Levels 0 - 2 will have an opportunity to pracce their English during Conversaon Hour. It will be held every Monday

    starng September 9 from 5:00-

    6:00 PM in SYMR 260.

    Who are Conversaon Partners?

    They are English speakers who will meetwith you for 1 hour each week.

    They want to help you improve yourspeaking skills.

    They want to make a new friend. They are not a tutor.

    If you sign up for a Conversaon Partner, you must:

    Be in Communicaon Level 3 - 6 Aend your group meengs every week

    Return your group leaders phone calls and e -mails Parcipate in your meengs and contribute to

    conversaon Speak English Have fun!

    Lab and ASC Classes and Extra Pracce: You must aend

    your Lab or ASC class regularly. Your Lab or ASC class is 2%

    of your total CM grade.You will be given a grade on a scale

    of 0-100 based on class assignments. If you have more than

    3 absences in Lab or ASC, you will receive a grade of zero

    for the whole lab class. This means that if you

    have a 70 in your Communicaon class and you

    missed your Lab or ASC class more than 3 mes,

    your grade will go down from a 70 to a 68.

    at Apogee Stadium. This welcome-back event

    features free food, giveaways, live entertainment,

    and other fun acvies. Over 160 student

    organizaons, campus departments (including IELI), and

    community businesses will be on hand to distribute informaon

    about involvement.

    Rec Extravaganza - Wednesday, Aug. 28, 6:30 - 9:00

    PM . Come to the Pohl Recreaon Center for food,

    drinks, music and fun! FREE Pizza, FREE drinks, LIVE

    music, FREE T-shirts, Rec Center tours, FREE

    giveaways and MORE!

    Target Aer-Hours Shopping Event - Wednesday,

    Aug. 28, 10:30 PM - 12:30 AM at the Super Target

    on Loop 288. Dont miss the 3rd annual shopping

    event that is only open aer-hours to UNT

    students. Target has everything essenal for a

    great start to college: Music, Refreshments, Shopping, FREE

    giveaways, and great prizes. Shules will run every 20 minutes

    from Kerr, Clark, West, Bruce, and Victory Hall.

    at the Hill at Apogee Stadium. Come out for a fun-lled

    night of foam and football fesvies! It's the ulmate back

    to school pep rally!
