    Caring Hands Camp

    BCSSI participated in the 2ndannual Caring Hands Camp,hosted by the Zionsville Boys &Girls Club. The main goal was toteach children the value of volunteerism and kindness. Morethan fifty students attended.Each day had a specific focus;Beautification, Hunger, Pet Care,

    Kids helping Kids and Senior Day. A special thanks to BCSSIvolunteers: Bonnie Klingler,Adrienne Bough, Allen Andrews,Anne LaPorte, Odette Chase,Jeannie Brandenburg, MidgeHarlos, Anne Newsom, PeggyBailey, David Duffield, TiffanyCamden and Keith Sliwa.

    BCSSI SpotlightBonnie Fletcher, RN

    Bonnie Fletcher, RN, has beenDirector of Home Health Servicesfor Boone County Senior Services, Inc. since March 1996.After 15 years Bonnie decided toretire. She has followed the

    guidelines set forth by the IndianaState Department of Health andsupervised the Home HealthAides and Certified NursingAssistants. She was recentlynamed a Personal ServicesTrainer by the IndianaAssociation of Home and HospiceCare.One of Bonnies many qualities isthe compassion she has shownto all the Home Health clients.Her love of older adults is quite

    evident when you hear her speak of each person.Now that she is retired from theagency she and her family havemoved to Frankfort. She plansto spend a lot of her time fishing,working in her yard, andenjoying her family.As a remembrance of all shehas done for the agency, a handcrafted bird bath will be placedin our new Stroll Garden on thenorth side of the building.We all wish Bonnie much

    happiness.

    Frosty Apple Cider Shake

    8 oz. apple cider 2 cups vanilla ice cream Pinch each of cinnamon & nutmegWhole milk, if needed to thin

    Put all ingredients into a blender and process until well blended. If the shake is too thick for your liking, add a tablespoon of milk at atime and re-blend until you get your preferred consistency.

    Joes Special 1 T. olive oil

    1 cup chopped onion1 lb. sliced mushrooms1 lb. ground beef 1 lb. fresh spinach (washed, dried

    & chopped into thin ribbons)

    6 eggs, lightly beaten

    Salt & pepper cup green onion tops (finelychopped)

    cup Parmesan cheese (finelygrated)

    Heat oil in large non-stick skillet and add diced onion. Cook for a fewminutes and add the mushrooms. Cook until the mushrooms begin tobrown a bit. Remove mixture from pan to a heat proof bowl.Add the ground beef to the skillet and ,breaking it up with a woodenspoon or spatula, cook until it is no longer pink. Remove any fat.Add mushroom-onion mixture and the chopped spinach. Cook for afew minutes just until the spinach wilts, then add the eggs and stir for about 3-5 minutes or until the eggs are set. Add salt and pepper totaste. Top with green onions and cheese. Serves 4.

    Easy Taco Pizza lb. ground pork packet (2 T) taco seasoning1 package (6 oz.) pizza crust

    mix1 cup (4 oz) reduced fat shredded

    Colby Jack cheese

    1 cup salsa cup coarsely crushed low -fat

    tortilla chips1 cups shredded lettuce2 T. sliced ripe olives, optional

    Preheat oven to 400 F. Heat large non-stick skillet and add groundpork and taco seasoning. Cook and stir for 10 minutes or untilcrumbly and no longer pink.Prepare pizza crust according to package directions. Spread crustevenly on greased 12 inch pizza pan and top with salsa. Sprinkle ontaco seasoned pork, cheese and tortilla chips. Bake for 18-22minutes or until crust is golden brown. Remove and top withshredded lettuce and olives.

    Herb Butter

    cup minced fresh parsley 2 green onions, minced cup fresh dill or 2 t. dried dill2 T. chopped fresh tarragon or

    2 t. dried

    1 T. chopped fresh chervil or 1 t. dried OR 1 T. choppedfresh celery leaves

    2 sticks unsalted butter, softened

    2 T. fresh lemon juiceSalt & pepper to taste

    Combine first 6 ingredients in a blender or food processor. Addlemon juice and salt & pepper and blend until mixture is wellcombined. Store in a pretty crock, covered, in the refrigerator untilready to use. Makes 1 cup.
