Thirty couples braved cold conditions as the annual couples relay was resumed after a year'sabsence. This time the site was Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill, and teams fromfar and wide came to do battle. But Batman bags and bagels set the mood as everyoneenjoyed not only an exciting race, but a good time as well.

The race was the closest in recent memory: Only two seconds separated the first teams. The Deitricks, Bemie and Joan, took the victory. Sandra and Manuel Natal were justbehind them, and their young daughters Esther and Alych were the class of the under 10set. Bemie also had the fastest time of the day on the 3 mile loop, running 18:47 throughwoods and over bridges. Lori Jorgensen scored the fastest women's time, spurring her andpartner Rich Mattey to a third place finish. But Mary Fanelli Lund and Bob Lund ran astrong fourth, both showing strong performances.

The father/daughter division found the daughter mnning circles around dad for first placeteam Nancy and Robert DiMetropolis. The Hernandez duo from Queens had an excellentsecond place finish.

The Johnsons, Eric and Karen, were the class of the under 40's, and the strongestbrother/sister team as well, although Rosalind and Howard Smith of Katonah, the youngestteam of the day, placed third in the under 40 division and helped prove that blood andsweat are a winning team.

Linda Geppert and Pierce Brennan led the 100+ mnners, while Judy Freeman and JimHamilton ran a quick second. Carmelo Roldan found his way into the award ceremonywith partner Debbie Yagoda.

As the results show, there were a lot of good efforts and the bmnch afterward was a in thelodge made it an extra fun day! Hopefully, we'll have enough female runners next year toaccomodate all of the eager male participants without partners. (Hear that, women?!)
