  • HOW TO TRAIN (OR NOT TO TRAIN) FOR THE MARATHON( P a r t 7 o f t h r e e p a r t s )

    S a n d y M a c Ta v i s h

Preparing for the classic distance has many benefits. Onthe other hand, there are some disadvantages. Take sex. Runningcan alter your sex life drastically; sometimes good, sometimesnot so good. (The premise being there is no such thing as bads e x . )

    Piling on mileage will leave you fatigued to no end. Yourtired, aching body will demand rest, rest, rest. This will causeyour partner to think you are running around, which you admit to,b u t w i t h a d i f f e r e n t m e a n i n g .

But as you adjust to higher mileage, you will start to feelpeppy, rushing home to satisfy your new found urge. Most of thetime, however, your ambitions are mixed up with your capabilitiesand you will fall asleep during love-making, which is only a weebi t be t te r than fa l l i ng as leep be fo re love-mak ing .(Of course, this will bother you no end if you live alone.)As you peak for your 26.2, your adrenalin will elevate youto a high level, enabling you to successfully accomplish allperformances to which you aspire -sex included. Unfortunately, your partner will have left you for some drunken bowler, boorishgolfer, or barker on a circus carousel. Never mind, what goesa r o u n d , c o m e s a r o u n d . , ^ ^ ^ Then there is alcohol. If you are a drunk before^ taking onthis training you should consider joining AAA: AA won t cut it.If you don't have a problem with drink, don't worry: you will
