WHEN IS THE OFFICIAL 1 ST DAY OF 2017 FALL TRYOUTS? Monday, July 31 Anyone interested in trying out for any Fall sport is expected to be at the designated tryout site ready to practice on Monday, 7/31 as well as throughout the entire evaluation period. Each athlete should come prepared with weather/sport appropriate clothing and equipment (cleats, sticks, shin guards, etc). It is also imperative that you bring your own LOCK to enable you to secure your personal valuables. If there is an unavoidable conflict that prevents attendance, the coach should be contacted prior to the athlete missing practice! FALL SPORTS INCLUDES: Boys & Girls Cross Country, JV/V Field Hockey, 9 th /JV/V Football, Golf and JV/V Volleyball PRACTICE STARTS BEFORE CLASSES BEGIN? Yes, the 1 st day of Fall practice is established by the VHSL and is the same for all VHSL (public) schools across the state. The 1 st day of school for ACPS students is Tuesday, August 22. Preschool practice times are listed at the end of this document. Please know that anyone interested in trying out should adjust their summer schedule accordingly. If there is an unavoidable conflict that prevents attendance, the coach should be contacted prior to the athlete missing practice! What kind of paper work is required? 1. CURRENT PHYSICAL ON FILE: In compliance with VHSL rules, before any student can try out or participate in conditioning or sports team, they MUST have a CURRENT ATHLETIC PHYSICAL on file in the Athletic Office dated since May 1, 2017. Physical forms can be downloaded from our website or pickedup from the Athletic Office. 2. REGISTER ONLINE AS AN ATHLETE: Completing the online registration form minimizes parents/students from having to fill out duplicate and multiple layers of paper work. Since this information provides emergency and medical info, it is key that you are specific with which sport you are tryingout. For example, our Spring coaches can not obtain information if a student only registered as a Fall Football player but is now trying out for Spring Soccer. HOW DO TRYOUTS WORK? The evaluation process begins on this first day and will continue until the final team selections are made. Depending on the number of students, sport or weather, “tryouts” could take 3 days or 2 weeks. During this evaluation period, a variety of tests, drills, tools and gamelike situations are used to measure each athlete’s performance ability in the most objective and measureable manner possible.
