The N.S.W. State team will be announced at the State Team Dinner after training next Wednesday night.

Richmond Coach Tom Hafey has been invited by N.S.W. State Cap­tain Coach John Northey to take the Wednesday training session and address the squad at the Team Dinner that night.

ROTHMANS COACHING CLINICS The N.S.W.A.N.F.L. in conjunction with the Rothmans National Sport

Foundation is proud to announce that the 1973 Schoolboys and Junior Coaching Clinics began in Sydney on. Wednesday, 13th June.

These coaching clinics will be an -outstanding opportunity for the boys to obtain the skills of ball handling and the fundamentals of Aus­tralia s National football game.

Uni were without a couple of players and we were also minus Barry Toy, Kevin Williams, Brian Pac­ker, Ross McKenzie, Graeme Eime and Trevor Morrison, plus the fact that three boys played their first game. Squire wen · the Award. Hans Miles marked everything, but the grandstand, the Rovers and Tony Hawley picked up everything, except the Umpire and Biggsy continued to elude them.

Those who missed the Easts-Wests game at Trumper on Sunday were the losers, because the game was of a high standai-d and very entertaining. The tremendous third quarter by Easts to get within a few' points of the Magpies was champagne football as was Wests classi<: last quarter i~nder the steadying hand of Captain Johnny Northey. Wish we had games like that every week.

For the Magpies, Lindsay Hethering­ton who pulled down some screamers a1.1d kicked 6 goals was the Award win­ner. Peter Bouchier's solid display earned him the other Award.

David Rowe, Geoff McLean, in the backs had strong games and cf course the two sparkplugs John Northey and George Allen.·

John Caulfield's Seconds were on thP. rampage again and had an easy win and the Awards went to John Doyle, who is a model of consistency and Mick Bridgement Gary Nagle alsG gave us a good game on the flank. Garry Moore in his first game with Wests played very well as did Roy Fair.

The Thirds were back in the winners cycle and it was good to see.

Garry McMillan and Garry White won the A wards supported bY Brian Ryall, Bob Clarke. ·

Steven Cordukes was No. 1 in the All Age closely pressed by Captain John Donovan and Keith Smith.

Don't forget the evening in the Sky­line Lounge on Suday, 17th June when the film of last year's Sydney Gr"and Final will be screened.

If only the standard of that second quarter could be maintained even for just half a game many wins would have been posted to date. Best players Grahame Foster, Rod Spotswood, Greg Elbe. Kerry Hudson, Neil Ellard and the two be5t players on the ground, Gary Fedler and Tom Watts.

Second Grade showed that they have the goods but lack of communication let

•the side down. However this is still a good side and tip of the day, Seconds to

Third G!-ade never gave up against a very good side. Today's game against Wests should be goorl but the Tigers should prove too strong. Best players Peter Wllldsor, .David Ratten, Gary Philp and .Steve Shelton.

ST. GEORGE CLUB NOTES A great morale boosting victory by

our First Grade against Ncrths a fort­night ago. It was the first time for a number of years that we had won at North Sydney Oval and it was a tre­mendous team effort. Two wins in suc­cession and as I have mentioned pre­viously-we only needed to taste vic­tory and come finals time we will be in the first three!

Loss for the season when only 17 men turned up for the game. Coach Geoff Green, together with all club supporters, was bitterly disappointed. I am sllre we have a premiership team here fellows so get behind Geoff and make up for the North's debacle.

SOVTH SYDNEY CLVB NOTES -Just when does the rot stop. First 2

games 2 wins. Next 4 all losses. Our hopes of making the finals are getting slimmer as games go by. We should be doing much better than we are. To many of our players do not seem to be interested in giving 100 per cent effort. Until they do we will remain at the bottom of the ladder. It's up to each and every one of you. No amount of training and coaching can help those who won't help themselves. Our best were Alby Ralph, Bob Davies, Paul Bol­ton, Bob Hankinson. Welcome to Laurie Lyttleton. May his stay with the club

be a happy one. The Reserves were beaten by 15 points in a low scoring game. Peter Winkless was our best with Beatles, Ron Brown and Col Wea­ver. The car rally held on Monday was enjoyed by all. Approximately 95 miles were covered by the entrants. The course was from Kensington Oval to Penrith. Second Grade coach Ray Zeiba was judged the winner. A bar-b-que was held at Penrith. Many thanks to Dave Barnes for supplying the venue. This week we play St. George and a victory is a must.

VNIVERSITY OF N.s.w. CLVB NOTES In our last appearance, Wales lost

narrowly in both grades to Combined Services. The Seconds were unlucky to go down by one point in a game that · could have gone either way. After half time the whole team played well, with· Peter Kemp standing out. Tubbs Lane had a solid game in defence as the dents

in the fence testified! The Firsts went down by a slightly

larger margin. Only one quarter of good football was just not enough. Bobby Howard was one of the few play­ers to play hard all day.

See you at Rosedale on Saturday and at the turn at Team's after the game.

SYD.NEY UNIVERSITY NOTES The story of lsts defeat to an admit­

tedly superior side on the day, should begin at half time. At that stage the scores were Sydney 6 goals 6 behinds to 6 goals 7 behinds to the P~nnant Hill side. From then on the game was close­ly contested right up. till the 24th min­ute when Pennant Hill~ raised the flags again and the curtain of darkness mark­ed the end of the game.

For once this year we were matched in pace, fitness, and a systematic mov­ing of the ball forward.

We went down to a superior side and we were not disgraced in our defeat.

Best for Sydney, Jim Carroll and Rich­ard Wild.

The Seconds consistentIY launched in­to attack and had every chance. But there was no one in the forward line with the ability to finish it. Little Bull Fricker ran like hell. Pete Flynn de­serves mention. for his efforts to co­operate with the· team and bis defen­sive style football which kept their cen­tre half forward out of the game.

At this stage of the season it is crucial that the Seconds find that lively breath­fine spirit which previously motivated this porfermly enthusiastic side.
