While we are on the Bowmans-they .almOst took over at Newtown last week. Gordon's eldest son Michael played in the ruck for the Seconds, and younger boys Leigh and Russell joined Gordon in the Senior team. Must be a good omen because it was Newtown's first double win of the season.

~· Where du ycu begin after last Mon· day's effort. Never before have we beaten either Sydney University side, but we managed to pull off the double. J3oth games were not over till the final bell, but training in that beautiful smog free air at Pennant Hills makes our boys a little bit fresher and we finished full of running.
The Reserves continued on their record winning streak and the story gees that Zorba left the ground early to design a Premiership Flag. Mr. Elegance ran amok all day and Stevie Williams killed 'em. Tyler Benson was a town of strength, Rod Severn kicked goals galore. The Club is proud of all of you, and what about Billy Carey afte:i: pro-
motion to the -Reserves. The First's game was also great. It
was a hard and close ·game all ·day but Trumper's experience, and Squire Hoffman's brilliance held us together in the last quarter. Uni were without a couple of players and we were also minus Barry Toy, Kevin Williams, Brian Packer, Ross McKenzie, Graeme Eime and Trevor Morrison, plus the fact that three boys played their first game. Squire wen · the Award. Hans Miles marked everything, but the grandstand, the Rovers and Tony Hawley picked up everything, except the Umpire and Biggsy continued to elude them.

WESTERN SUBURBS NOTES

Those who missed the Easts-Wests game at Trumper on Sunday were the losers, because the game was of a high standai-d and very entertaining. The tremendous third quarter by Easts to get within a few' points of the Magpies was champagne football as was Wests classi<: last quarter i~nder the steadying hand of Captain Johnny Northey. Wish we had games like that every week.
For the Magpies, Lindsay Hetherington who pulled down some screamers a1.1d kicked 6 goals was the Award winner. Peter Bouchier's solid display earned him the other Award.
David Rowe, Geoff McLean, in the backs had strong games and cf course the two sparkplugs John Northey and George Allen.·
John Caulfield's Seconds were on thP. rampage again and had an easy win and the Awards went to John Doyle, who is a model of consistency and Mick Bridgement Gary Nagle alsG gave us a good game on the flank. Garry Moore in his first game with Wests played very well as did Roy Fair.
The Thirds were back in the winners cycle and it was good to see.
Garry McMillan and Garry White won the A wards supported bY Brian Ryall, Bob Clarke. ·
Steven Cordukes was No. 1 in the All Age closely pressed by Captain John Donovan and Keith Smith.
Don't forget the evening in the Skyline Lounge on Suday, 17th June when the film of last year's Sydney Gr"and Final will be screened.
Another reminder about the Annual Ball on July 14th. It is a Macquerade Ball and good prizes are being offered for costumes and l.llasks. Tickets are selling at a great rate, so don't miss out, get yours now from Ken Forbes or the ladies of the Social Committee.
Co11gratulations to our eight representatives in the State Squad. Let~s all hope they make the final side.
They are John Northey, John Caulfield, GeOrge Allen, David Rowe, Chris Bradley, Ray Cahill, Peter Freidlieb, Ken Forbes. Good luck, fellas.
MAGPIE
HALMA.IN CLUB NOTES First Grade although never getting
out of second gear, performed well and were unlucky not to have won. If only the standard of that second quarter could be maintained even for just half a game many wins would have been posted to date. Best players Grahame Foster, Rod Spotswood, Greg Elbe. Kerry Hudson, Neil Ellard and the two be5t players on the ground, Gary Fedler and Tom Watts.
Second Grade showed that they have the goods but lack of communication let
•the side down. However this is still a good side and tip of the day, Seconds to
beat Wests a certainty. Best players. Nev Franks, Bob Eades, John Phillips and Gary Harrington.
Third G!-ade never gave up against a very good side. Today's game against Wests should be goorl but the Tigers should prove too strong. Best players Peter Wllldsor, .David Ratten, Gary Philp and .Steve Shelton.
Don't forget to see Marg Rodier, Bill Yalciwyn e>r -Barbara Hodgson about your presentation night tickets a few cents a week and your ticket will be paid for come September. ·

ST. GEORGE CLUB NOTES A great morale boosting victory by
our First Grade against Ncrths a fortnight ago. It was the first time for a number of years that we had won at North Sydney Oval and it was a tremendous team effort. Two wins in succession and as I have mentioned previously-we only needed to taste victory and come finals time we will be in the first three!
BEST PLAYERS. B. Ward, K. Gibbons, R: Skuse, S. Rixon.
Loss for the season when only 17 men turned up for the game. Coach Geoff Green, together with all club supporters, was bitterly disappointed. I am sllre we have a premiership team here fellows so get behind Geoff and make up for the North's debacle.
Best players G. Hargreaves, G. Green, J. Tomlinson, P. Grace.
The Thirds had a good hard struggle before emerging the victors.
Best players, I. Taylor, C. Lan, L. Jansen, P. Karlins.
Social News, "Meet the players" night was a resounding success and Will now become a regular function. Special thanks to Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. McKenzie for their effcrts.
The Taiwan Restaurant will never be the same after the club's visit after the Norths game. A great night was : had and special mention must go to a great vocal group-namely our Third Graders Oed by Rocker McConnell.
Tonight, Miranda Builders arid Businessmen's Club.
Tomorrow, Bjg Golf Day, Boomerang Golf Club, 9.00 a.m. Picnic Races etc. All welcome.
NEWTOWN CLUB NOTES Last Sunday saw the Mighty Red and
Whites play their best football this season to overwhelm the Rabbitoh's.
Colin MacDonald won the Paratel A'ward and Jan Gordon the Snuff Fire Extinguisher with the ccmpliments of Bob- ·-Quinn with John Kemp gainini one· poi.i!.t. Others were Ian -Kidd, Ron McFadyen, Doug Williams and Paul Bouchier. The umpiring display in First Grade was excellent.
Congratulations -are extended to Ron MacFadyen and Paul Bouchier on their selection to the State Training Squad. all at Newtown. wish you both every success.
Armstrong's youthfUl Reserves notched up their first win of the season.· Players to shine were Michael McCrud- · den. Jimmy Connelly, Brian Mannison
- and "Battling" Bob Sykes.

Today we play East Sydney and victory is ours.
<ANGEL ,.P.s. History was witnessed in the making last Sunday night when a new club song was being written, for the words see: Irving "Armstrong" Berlin O"F
Henry "O'Connor" Mancini.
SOVTH SYDNEY CLVB NOTES -Just when does the rot stop. First 2
games 2 wins. Next 4 all losses. Our hopes of making the finals are getting slimmer as games go by. We should be doing much better than we are. To many of our players do not seem to be interested in giving 100 per cent effort. Until they do we will remain at the bottom of the ladder. It's up to each and every one of you. No amount of training and coaching can help those who won't help themselves. Our best were Alby Ralph, Bob Davies, Paul Bolton, Bob Hankinson. Welcome to Laurie Lyttleton. May his stay with the club
be a happy one. The Reserves were beaten by 15 points in a low scoring game. Peter Winkless was our best with Beatles, Ron Brown and Col Weaver. The car rally held on Monday was enjoyed by all. Approximately 95 miles were covered by the entrants. The course was from Kensington Oval to Penrith. Second Grade coach Ray Zeiba was judged the winner. A bar-b-que was held at Penrith. Many thanks to Dave Barnes for supplying the venue. This week we play St. George and a victory is a must.

VNIVERSITY OF N.s.w. CLVB NOTES In our last appearance, Wales lost
narrowly in both grades to Combined Services. The Seconds were unlucky to go down by one point in a game that · could have gone either way. After half time the whole team played well, with· Peter Kemp standing out. Tubbs Lane had a solid game in defence as the dents
in the fence testified! The Firsts went down by a slightly
larger margin. Only one quarter of good football was just not enough. Bobby Howard was one of the few players to play hard all day.
See you at Rosedale on Saturday and at the turn at Team's after the game.
TUBA AND LEGS
SYD.NEY UNIVERSITY NOTES The story of lsts defeat to an admit
tedly superior side on the day, should begin at half time. At that stage the scores were Sydney 6 goals 6 behinds to 6 goals 7 behinds to the P~nnant Hill side. From then on the game was closely contested right up. till the 24th minute when Pennant Hill~ raised the flags again and the curtain of darkness marked the end of the game.
For once this year we were matched in pace, fitness, and a systematic moving of the ball forward.
We went down to a superior side and we were not disgraced in our defeat.
Best for Sydney, Jim Carroll and Richard Wild.
The Seconds consistentIY launched into attack and had every chance. But there was no one in the forward line with the ability to finish it. Little Bull Fricker ran like hell. Pete Flynn deserves mention. for his efforts to cooperate with the· team and bis defensive style football which kept their centre half forward out of the game.
At this stage of the season it is crucial that the Seconds find that lively breathfine spirit which previously motivated this porfermly enthusiastic side.

What a let , down against the St. likeable coaches Norths have ever had. George Dragons-30 behinds! It was left to Roger ·Drew's Reserves to keep the flag flying with a most convincing win over a previously rmdefeated team.
Over 50 North Shore players and supporters enjoyed their holiday week end barbecue. With so many players away for the holidays, it was a great tribute to the coaches who. are surely the most reliable, conscientious and
