PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Theme: “Your Time is Your Gift to Others”
The 2017 Fall Craft Faire is upon us and the phrase above can move mountains
when it comes to determining a successful outcome for our event. I like to
compare our Craft Faire to Community Theatre. The overall preparation
requires a significant collaboration of our club members. We reach out to the
community to support our production and they do! This generates an infectious
and captivating spirit, no matter how small or large your part is or if you’re
working in front of or behind the curtain.
The call to audition went out in June for crewmembers interested in lending
a hand and offering their talents. No previous experience was required and all
were welcome. Under the guidance of the Stage Manager, Lucy Huerta, Carrie

Ladies, did you shoot some awesome photos in 2017? Did you create a lovely quilt, spend hours working a cross-stitch, or perhaps “upcycle” an unused something into a new and fabulous “treasure”?
We’d love to share the creations of our talented members at the annual Orange District Photo & Art Festival, coming up in January. The artwork and photos will be displayed and judged in conjunction with the January 12th District Council Meeting at the Phoenix Club in Orange. Art contest categories this year are: COUNTED CROSS-STITCH; QUILTING; TRASH-TO-TREASURE. (Continued on Page 3)

Knipfer has been busy building the sets, i.e., filling vendor spaces-the backdrop of the Craft Faire.
Rehearsals (committee meetings conducted by many dedicated chairpersons) have been going on
for five months. I hope you’re noticing the signs and banners around town advertising our event.
We’re just a few days away from:
ACT I Vendor Booth Spaces Marked (over 150)
ACT II Community Center Signs Placed
ACT III Kitchen & Opportunity Baskets Set Up
ACT IV Parking Control
ACT V Vendors Take Place Center Stage
ACT VI Production in Full Swing
Intermission Saturday Night to Sunday Morning
ACT VII Encore
Sunday Night Curtain Call
If this is your first time volunteering at the Craft Faire, come early or stay after your assignment to
enjoy the performance. This fund-raiser has been known to be a friend-raiser in the past. Most
club members are die-hard fans and look forward to volunteering. Either way, Your Time is Your
Gift to Others, and I can’t thank you enough!

This is a project that will not cost you any money and will be helpful to others. Save
the aluminum pull tab on cans and bring them to our meetings. The tabs are taken to
the Ronald McDonald House on Batavia Street in Orange. The tabs are sold to help
with the expenses of families with a child in Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
It takes about 1,200 pull tabs to make a pound. This year, our club has collected about
10 pounds.

All PANTYmania broke out at our last club meeting! In honor of October being Domestic Violence Month,
we had an underwear drive for socks and panties. What a wonderful success it was. Ladies, we couldn’t do
without your kind donations.
The women and children families (40 of them) from the local Women’s Transitional Living Center (WTLC)
are the thankful recipients of 144 pairs of socks for women, 77 pairs of men’s/boy’s socks, 73 panties for
women, 50 pairs of men’s/boy’s T-Shirts. This adds up to a grand total of 348 total items. The underwear
was very much needed as we get closer to the winter season.

Above items of socks, underwear, etc., donated by the YLWC.
To date, with all of your donations, I have been able to deliver a grand total of 286 books to the Topaz Elementary School. We presented 215 wonderful hard cover books for re-use in the library. The balance of the books are 71 paperbacks that will be given to the students to take home and keep. Maria Lumby, the Topaz School Librarian, was thrilled by our donations. I will continue to collect "Books for Topaz" through our May General Meeting and will make sure they get delivered before school lets out in June. Thank you all for your generous support on this project. Margie Donovan Chairman 714.996.4763 ~ [email protected]

At the two sewing workshops in October everyone was hard at work as usual.
The Sew Kind Ladies were working on the cool-ties, cutting out hospital gowns
for the Hospice group that requested them, putting the drawstring in the bags,
stuffing bears, etc. There is always something for everyone to do. The group
donated 65 cool-ties to the military and will be working on more next time.
Threads of Love always continues to work on the Lovie Dolls, Isolette covers,
sorting fabric, etc. The need is always great for these items by the hospitals
that this group supplies these items to. The group will be treated to a Tea in
November at CHOC hospital to thank them for their efforts.
Everyone is invited to join these two groups to help in some way, no sewing experience needed.

The Angel Tags will be delivered to me on November 6. For those
attending the Board Meeting on November 7, 2017. I will give you your
Angel Tag. The others I will put in the mail on Wednesday, November 8.
With your Angel Tag, there will be directions about purchasing the gift
and how to return it. If possible, bring your gift to the General Meeting
on November 16, 2017.
Wrapping will take place in Irvine in same building as last year or one
block over. Our club has been asked to be Table Captains. They would like us to commit to working several
shifts during the wrapping from November 29 to December 11, 2017. The Captain checks with the Wrapper
that the gift is appropriate, gives the label for the box, and checks off the gifts as they are placed in the black
bags. This is a sit-down job. Four or more people are needed each shift, so a group could car pool.
As I get more information as to the wrapping location, I will let you know by e-blast.
Pat Porter, Chairman

Since we will not meet in December, the November General Meeting is the last month I will be collecting shoes for this project. If any of you still need to clean out your closet of any women's, men's or children's shoes that are no longer needed, now is the time to get it done. Shoes with laces should be tied together by the laces. Shoes without laces will be rubber-banded together.

This is an Orange District Project and the District has asked all clubs to help. The District is very pleased with all of the shoes our club has collected so far. I currently have 5 bags, of 25 pairs of shoes each, ready for them to pick-up. That is a total of 125 pairs of shoes. I'm currently halfway through bag number 6. Great work ladies! All donated shoes will go directly to the Orange District and will be purchased by FUNDS2ORGS. All funds received will be donated to UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund). Thanks to all of you who have supported this project. Margie Donovan, Chairman

I want to thank all of you who participated in this project. We are going to be
making 36 children real happy with their gifts. Lots of extra things were
donated including clothing, personal hygiene items and food.
You still have until October 28 to bring your gifts to me or to the Girl Scout
House located at 4652 Cosa Loma Avenue near the Yorba Linda Community
Center. Aileen Baker will be there to accept the gifts from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Another thought, I will be
collecting donations to buy the basketballs until our November General Meeting. I don’t order them until the
first of December, so there is still time to give a basketball. The basketballs are $8.00 each.
Again, thank you for your generosity.

Members are encouraged to participate in this year’s Community Help Drive by
bringing non-perishable, non-expired food items or an unwrapped child’s toy to
the Community Center between November 6 and December 8, 2017.
The collected items will be donated to local families and children through the
Yorba Linda Food for Families Program. Although this isn’t a YLWC-sponsored project, let’s do our part to
make the holiday season a little brighter for those less fortunate. Our club meeting on November 16 would
be a perfect time to drop off a few things without making an extra trip -- just take them to the staff/reception
area.
Other drop-off locations:
• Black Gold Golf Club
• City Hall
• Lasorda Field House
• Travis Ranch Activity Center
