Date: September 4 th 2016 Organized by: Portuguese Geotechnical Society (SPG), University of Minho and International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). Introduction Ground improvement has known a major part of its development in the field of Transportation. Huge projects of highways, rail roads, harbours and airports have become economically viable thanks to offshore and onshore ground improvement. The TC 211, Ground Improvement, has brought its support and back up to this workshop through it’s network of international members. Goals of the workshop Oral presentations supported by extended abstracts presentations will address the major techniques of ground improvement presented by recognized experts in this Field. 2 keynote presentations by academic and industry authorities will highlight ground improvement without added material and with added material. Those techniques will be part of the workshop organized in the form of a short course Focus on quality control will enable engineers to better understand the needs of parameters through in situ tests and laboratory tests to validate the design and acceptance of works.
