Become part of Women of Wind EnergyThe rapid growth of the wind industry holds great promise for the world's energy future and the green careers of today and tomorrow. But historically, women have been under-represented in the wind industry. This fact affects not only women already in our field or contemplating a career in it, but also the wind industry as a whole. How will wind energy reap the full advantage of women's talents, energy, and ideas?

Women of Wind Energy, or WoWE (pronounced WOW-ee), works to ensure that women can play a full, productive role in the development of wind power.

Building women’s place in wind energy is not only the right and fair thing to do; it’s a solid strategy for success. The equal engagement of women in the workforce and in senior management has been linked to greater organizational communication and efficiency, broader consumer awareness, and increased profitability.

WoWE invites everyone – women and men alike – to help us accomplish our mission.

Laying FoundationsBuilding off of the great work of our many volunteers, the grassroots energy pushing WoWE forward has lead to a new foundation for growth and engagement: transitioning to a Board of Directors, hiring a new Executive Director, expanding online communi-ties, and creating more supportive structures for chapters.

WoWE is truly taking root. With increasing participation across our chapters, WoWE is prepared to reach to a new level of programming, outreach, and education to help make the wind industry an example of how women’s leadership and talents can be fostered.

WoWE is deeply indebted to the enthusiasm of our volunteers and the support of our sponsors and donors that make all of this work possible at such a critical time.

Help Seize the MomentThe economy is rebounding. Green jobs are in high demand. Women represent half of the US workforce. We believe there could be no better time for women’s talent, creativity, and commitment to make a very real difference in our industry and for our world. Come join us… get involved today!

What WoWE does for our supporters, volunteers, and the world

Women of Wind Energy provides these services and programs:

Rudd Mayer Memorial Fellowships

WoWE offers grant support to women students and industry newcomers to attend the WINDPOWER conference, helping ensure the best and brightest can explore wind energy while also introducing industry employers to talent. Please join us in celebrating the 2010 winners!

Think globally, organize locally

Five years ago the local WoWE revolution started with volunteers organizing chapters in cities and regions across North America. Chapters offer networking opportunities, sponsor educational events from field trips to guest speakers, build coalitions, and provide outreach to area students from K-12 schools to institutions of higher education.

Mentoring, online and in person

Mentors help the next generation of industry leaders to emerge. As a WoWE mentor, you’ll support one person to grow professionally while you help expand the role women play across the wind industry. As a WoWE “mentee,” you’ll tap into a large pool of experience and learn from established professionals in the field.

Recognition awards

Every year, WoWE celebrates outstanding women contributors to the wind energy industry. As you congratulate the 2010 Woman of the Year and Rising Star recipients, please think about who you will nominate for next year’s award.

Local events encouraging women to join

and succeed in wind energy businesses

WoWE helps wind industry companies hire and support women employees, by providing networking and career development programs, posting job openings on the WoWE online networks, and recognizing companies that welcome, support, and promote women.
