Worthen, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C Bill Worthen is a nationally recognized sustainability and collaborative design visionary and practice leader. Over his twenty- year career Bill has balanced policy development with professional and public advocacy, practice experience, industry research and peer-to-peer education. Bill has served as the sustainability consultant for several high-visibility projects that explore the practical application of leading edge sustainability strategies, energy performance and high-level green building certifications for clients including: MGM Resorts International, Tishman Speyer, Boston Properties, Jay Paul Company and the Energy Foundation. Bill served as a member of San Francisco’s Green Building Task Force resulting in the city’s pioneering Green Building Ordinance, winner of the first World Green Building Council Government Leadership Award in 2011 and currently serves of the San Francisco Eco-District Formation Task Force. Bill has represented his profession, serving as the AIA National Director and Resource Architect for Sustainability from 2010 to 2012, spearheading several cross-industry collaborative sustainability initiatives – most notably overseeing the development of the AIA publication: An Architect’s Guide to Integrating Energy Modeling in the Design Process and the DESIGN Art+Science high performance building code educational video series. Bill’s current work includes sustainability consulting at many scales of project work including the LEED Platinum certification of 181 Fremont and the Tranbay Transit Center Tower in San Francisco and a LEED Platinum Winery in Napa, California. Bill is a member of United States Green Building Counsel LEED Implementation Committee and the Integrative Process (IP) Task Group that developed the IP credit in LEED v4. Bill is member of the Greenbuild Expo 2014 Program Working Group. Bill recently wrote, The Future of Designing (with) Water published in the January 2014 issue of ARCHITECT Magazine covering design opportunities for on-site water reuse systems, black and gray water technology and the water-energy nexus. Bill is a member of the C40 Cities Roadmap Review Committee at the Clinton Foundation where he peer reviews climate positive development projects around the world. Bill is also the creator of Who Designed That? Brain Games for Design Nerds, an interactive, team based game show about design. Bill Worthen is a nationally recognized sustainability and collaborative design visionary and practice leader.
