Day 1 (D): HOME TO AIRLIE BEACH: Welcome to our fabulous tour to Queensland’s Whitsundays, staying in Airlie Beach. This morning we transfer to the Melbourne airport for our flights north to Prosperine. Despite its growth over the past 15 years, Airlie Beach has retained its village atmosphere with lots of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants as well a huge swimming lagoon on the foreshore. On arrival we are transferred to the Coral Sea Resort, the delightful oceanfront property in Airlie Beach where we will be staying for the next 6 nights (lunch at own cost / dinner in resort). Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach Day 2 (BLD): THE WHITSUNDAY ISLANDS: Following breakfast we make our way to the jetty in preparation for our full day cruise through the Whitsundays. Our cruise will take us first to the spectacular Whitehaven Beach where we’ll have a few hours to soak it all up! Sit back, breathe in the sea air, and marvel at the wonders of the Whitsundays. The waters of Solway Passage lead us to the world famous beach, a definite 'must see' in the Whitsundays. The crystal clear aqua waters and pristine white silica sand stretch for over seven kilometres along Whitsunday Island, the largest of all the islands in the Whitsundays. It is Mother Nature at her best - the most photographed beach in Australia and named “Queensland’s Most Beautiful Beach”. Our skipper will provide an informative commentary on the history and natural wonders of the area. We can wander along the beach or cool off in the azure waters. We then cruise to Daydream Island for our lovely lunch. We have time at leisure this afternoon to take in Daydream Village and the Living Reef Coral Lagoon, filled with colourful coral and fish life, sharks and stingrays! After our day’s cruising, we return to Airlie Beach for dinner in the resort (breakfast & dinner in resort / lunch on Daydream Island). Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach

Day 3 (BLD): PROSERPINE: This morning we head inland with Proserpine River Eco Tours for a unique nature experience. We’ll cruise the wetland habitat, melaleuca forest and a mangrove ecosystem. This habitat is home to many species of native birds, mammals, reptiles and marine animals – including about 200 estuarine crocodiles. We enjoy a morning tea of Aussie Damper and Billy Tea prepared by our guides, travel in an open-air wagon train through Goorganga Wetlands and see the land as Captain Cook saw it. Our tour also includes a calm water cruise on the Proserpine River investigating the marine mangrove ecosystem as well as the chance to see an estuarine (saltwater) crocodile, rated as one of the most dangerous crocodiles in the world. Our guides will show us how to catch the delicious Queensland Mud Crab and describe their amazing features and its fascinating lifecycle before releasing them back into the river. We enjoy a BBQ lunch in the covered campsite before transferring back to Airlie Beach this afternoon. Our fascinating day complete, we have dinner at the resort and retire for the evening (breakfast & dinner in resort / BBQ lunch). Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach

Day 4 (BD): FREE DAY: A free day awaits us today to do as we wish. Perhaps a day tour to Hamilton Island? We can also enjoy the facilities at the resort and relax the day away. Early evening we join Sundowner Cruises on a pre-dinner Sunset Cruise around Pioneer Bay, followed by a two-course meal at Tides Restaurant in Peppers Resort overlooking the Whitsunday Islands. What a fantastic way to complete our day (breakfast in resort / lunch at own cost / dinner at restaurant). Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach

Day 5 (BLD): AIRLIE BEACH & CAPE GLOUCESTER: Today we visit the Whitsunday Gold Coffee Plantation. Prepare to be entertained and educated as we explore the complex journey of the coffee bean from tree to cup. This morning we will enjoy a lovely morning tea and be intrigued by the interesting history behind coffee as we wander through the rows of lush foliage of Arabica Coffee Trees through the wet to dry processing plants and on into the final aromatic stage of roasting. Next we head to Hydeaway Bay - perhaps one of the best kept secrets on the mainland in this region and it’s not hard to understand why locals have kept this place to themselves for many years. Our lunch venue today is at the Oar Restaurant inside the Cape Gloucester Resort. This absolute beachfront location is a delightful surprise and with the nearby islands makes it the ideal setting for a relaxing lunch. We now travel back to Airlie Beach where we have the remainder of the day free to enjoy as we wish (breakfast & dinner in resort / lunch at Oar restaurant) Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach

Day 6 (BLD): BOWEN: This morning we head to Bowen where we make a stop at The Big Mango which is also the Visitor information Centre. It is here that we meet our local guide for a guided tour of the area to see the many murals within the central business district. Bowen is known as the mural capital of Australia with 19 mural sites, many of which depict the town’s early history. One of the murals was even designed by Ken Done. We also take a drive to the Flagstaff Hill lookout, a “must do” when visiting Bowen to get the best view of the Whitsundays. Saying farewell to our guide, we drive inland to our very unusual lunch venue at the Bogie River Bush Retreat. Our hosts will welcome us with a delicious home-made lunch and entertain us with a talk on the local area and wildlife. The retreat is a sanctuary for injured animals so don’t be surprised to see a kangaroo or owl around the property. After lunch, we can cool off with a dip in the pool. This outback experience will certainly be different from the glitz of Airlie Beach! After some time to sit back and relax, we return to our resort for our final dinner on tour (breakfast & dinner in resort / lunch in Bush Retreat) Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach
