    In this tutorial we will walk through configuring WhatsUp Gold to monitor a probe on the Senturion

    Environmental Monitor.

    Applies to:

    Prerequisites:

    Working copy of WhatsUp Gold 12.3 (other versions work as well)

    Sensatronics Senturion SNMP MIBS (Get them here)

    Section 1: Install Senturion MIBS

    Download, extract and copy the sensatronics-senturion-my and sensatronics-smi mibs to the

    C:/Program Files/ipswitch/whatsup/data/mibs/ directory

    Restart the "Ipswitch WhatsUp Engine in Windows/Services so the new mibs

    will be recognized by the system

    Section 2: Add the Device

    Open the WhatsUp Gold admin console and add a new device (File/New/New Device....)

    Enter the IP address of your Senturion / Senturion Lite

    Click on "Credentials" in the properties section and select your

    "SNMP v1/v2/v3 credentials" from the drop-down. The default for the Senturion is "Public"

    Section 3: Configure Performance Monitors

    Click "Performance Monitors" in the properties section and

    Click the "New" button to add a new individual performance monitor

    Select a performance monitor type of "SNMP Performance Monitor and click the "OK" button

    Enter a name for your probe, here we are using "Senturion Local Temperature"

    Clip the Ellipses (...) button next to the Performance Counter Instance field.

    Browse to the Probe1Value in the SNMP MIB Walker.

    Select "probe1Value" and click the OK button

    You should now see the oid for that probe in the performance counter f ield.

    Set your preferred collection interval, Timeout, and Retries. Click the "OK" button

    You should now see your newly created probe performance monitor in the individual performance monitors list.

    Section 4: Configure Active Monitors

    Select "Active Monitors" from the Properties Section and click the "Add..." button to add a new Active Monitor.

    Don't select a monitor from the drop-down yet. Instead, click the ellipses (...) button

    to the right of the drop-down to create a new Active Monitor type

    Click the "New" button

    Select "SNMP Monior" and click the "OK" button

    Name the SNMP monitor after your probe name. In this Case we are using "Senturion Local Temperature"

    Click the Ellipses (...) button to the right of the Object ID - Instance field.

    Enter the IP address of your Senturion, select your SNMP credentials and click the "OK" Button

    Browse to the Probe1Value in the SNMP MIB Walker.

    Select "probe1Value" and click the OK button

    You should see the probe's object ID appear in the "Object ID" field

    Change the Check Type to "Range of Values"

    Enter your minimum and maximum threshold values in the Low and High value fields.

    Note: The Senturion stores the temperature value as a whole number. So a value of 600 actually means 60.0 degrees

    and a value 850 means 85.0 degrees etc.

    Click the "OK" button

    Click the "OK" button in the Active Monitor Library screen

    Select your newly created Active Monitor type from the dropdown and Click the "Next" button

    Click "Next" in the Set Polling Properties Section

    Setup your Actions. Select either Action Policy or setup individual actions.

    Select an action policy if desired:

    Select the Apply individual actions radio button and click the "Add" button to setup individual actions for this monitor.

    Create a new action or select existing action

    We set an individual action to email the Admin when the Monitor is out of range for 20 minutes

    Click the "Finish" Button

    You should see the new probe monitor show up in the Active Monitors list

    Click the "OK" button

    You should see the newly added device in the device list

    Section 5: Viewing the Data

    Right Click on the device and select "Poll Now"

    Right-click on the device again and select "Device Status Report"

    This will load the web console. Enter your username and password and login.

    You will see your newly added device status.

    Click on your probe name in the "Device Performance Monitor Summary"

    You will see a graph load and you should see it starting to graph data on the right

    Go back to your Device Status screen and click on the name of your probe in the "Device Active Monitor States" section. Youshold see a data point on the right

    side of the Monitor State graph

    You can repeat the previous steps for each probe you have connected to the Senturion.
