California. The cost of living is higher here, with reports of techs making 25$ to 29$ in Northern CA,

of 15$ to 16$ an hour, with several cities in Washington paying around 19$ an hour. Arkansas has an

For some people, it’s worth it to relocate to a city or state that can offer them more money a month,

but for those that aren’t able to relocate there are other ways of increasing your income.

Increasing your Income as a Surgical Technologist

Some of the obvious ways to earn more money at work would be to work overtime. For some in the

surgical tech field, working on-call in addition to their regular schedule can add 2$ to 4$ extra dollars

an hour for every hour of on-call time they work.

Another option is to go back to school for an additional year. If you’re currently employed by a

hospital you can see if they offer any programs that will cover the cost of your education. Most

hospitals do and will require you to sign a contract stating you will work for them for an additional two

to three years in exchange for them picking up the bill for your education. You can go back to school

to become qualified as a first assistant or supervising assistant or you can work on getting a

certificate for a subspecialty and apply to be on the cardiac team. The cardiac team and other

specialties are very prominent positions and offer the best salary rate.
