What You Should Know When Installing a New Kitchen Sink

If your kitchen sink is starting to look old and outdated, it is time to replace it with a new one.

accidentally destroying their countertops in an attempt to take out the old sink and the supporting

hudee ring. It is important to know the right technique for removing and replacing a sink so that your

Buy the Right Sink

The first step is to buy the appropriate sink to fit the existing opening as well as all of the supplies

Push Out the Sink From Underneath

Of course, the first step is to turn off the water mains in

your home. Next, clear out everything in the sink

cabinet, get down on your hands and knees and crawl

into it with a torch. Take a look for the clips that attach

the sink and the rim to the countertop. Remove these

clips and then carefully disconnect the drain plumbing

and supply. Ask your assistant to hold on to the sink

from above while you push from underneath. If there is

a caulking seal around the sides, you might need to use

a putty knife to loosen it.

Installing the New Sink

Before installing the new sink into the hole you have just made, you will need to prepare it. Stainless

install the faucet according to the directions of the manufacturer because this is easier to do before

sprayer.

Put down a ribbon of plumber’s

putty and apply caulk under the

rim of the sink and set it into the

opening. Install the new sink clips

and reconnect the supply lines and

the drain pipes. If you have flexible

supply hoses it is recommended not to reuse the old hoses in case the rubber gasket that is used to

seal the connection has become hard and inflexible over the years.

Testing the Sink

When you have the sink completely installed,

turn on the water and run it for a few minutes.

Make sure that there are no leaks around the

drain or in the tubing.
