What I learned From Digital Literacy

I have learned some very important things from my digital literacy class

Staying Aware Of predators

Digital literacy has taught me about the basics to keeping safe on the internet. I have also learned that the online world is a dangerous place full of online predators. There are so many stories about online bullies making teens commit suicide. I have definitely changed the way that look and act on the internet.

How I stay safe

I learnt how to manage my profile settings in multiple websites like social media websites. For example, on facebook and instagram I put my social settings on friends only. On facebook every message that you sent they have stored in a place called the cloud.

Music

I do get free music off of the internet. I only do because I cant afford to pay $1.29 per song. I know that I shouldn’t be doing it but its so easy to get that I do it anyway. Digital literacy has helped me understand that it isn’t ok and that that’s why the music industry is going down because people keep downloading songs for free from the internet. I do still do it but it is at a minimum though.

My Ipod touch

I realized that ever since I had bought my IPod Touch that the tracker was on. Meaning that Apple could track me where ever I was. I quickly turned it off when I heard the news. Its not like I have anything to hide I just don’t want to be followed all my life just because I didn’t turn off a creepy setting. I also learned that Apple can also hack my camera and watch me all day if they wanted to. When I heard all of these things I felt invaded by the product that I bought because I though that there was nothing wrong.

Chat rooms

Digital literacy taught me about how chat rooms are dangerous and should not be used for kids. There is some pretty weird stuff happening on chat rooms and kids should not be apart of it. There has been cases of people doing thing on chat rooms and then being black mailed by the other person. It has ruined peoples lives. I have heard a case where a girl flashed a guy and he took a picture of it and said that if she didn’t do what he wanted he would post it on her Facebook and everyone would see it. She ended up committing suicide. That’s why chat rooms are bad.

How to make a website

In digital literacy I have learned how to make my own website on a site called Yola. I found out that it is pretty easy to make and is easy to find the website and be the creator. I never knew that making a website would be so easy and simple. I learned how to create links and put in pictures and videos onto my website.
