Westbourne Shops Put On Strong ShowDespite tough economic times, Westbourne continues to buck the trend and have very few empty shops. The national average is for 14.3% of units to be empty on the UK high street*. With just a handful of empty units in Westbourne, we can proudly say our area is doing better than most with just under 6% empty units.Recently opened businesses include Bournecoast, Cook, Quaint Essentials, Number83, Parachute Grocers and Sweet Serenity.

New stores opening this winter include Circo Lounge, Elsie Harrhy Coee on Poole Road and EAUdeVIE in the old Chinese take-away on Seamoor Road. James Edis from EAUdeVIE gave us a sneak preview of the exciting new bar and eatery, “we will be oering crafted tipples & locally sourced seasonal foods for breakfast, lunch & dinner. We will also oer speciality drinks service including crafted cocktails, premium beers and ne wines.”

Westminster Trip for Westbourne SchoolPupils from St Michael’s primary school recently went on a day trip to Westminster to have an educational tour of the Houses of Parliament. Local MP Conor Burns was delighted to be able to welcome the children and to talk to them about the

fascinating history of Westminster and British democracy. The photo shows Conor with the St Michael’s pupils in New Palace Yard at the House of Commons – just in front of Big Ben.

If you pick up a FREE copy of our Christmas Books Catalogue there are many more suggestions, and this year we have been able to oer special prices on an even larger range of new titles.

Signed editions always make a wonderful Christmas gift and at the time of going to press

NAXOS have a great range of Christmas music on CD from the traditional John Rutter Carols to the more modern jazz standards on That Christmas Feeling. We also have a selection of DVDs in stock and can order further titles in 1-2 days. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to say a big Thank You to all the loyal customers who continue to support us. We would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and to that end will be oering our usual selection of wine and nibbles on Saturday 3rd and Saturday 17th December (and maybe a couple of days in between).

Welcome to my Christmas contribution to the Westbourne Magazine. Christmas has been in our thoughts at Canford Chase for many weeks as we have been busy planning all our special events and entertainments.Of course gorgeous food features greatly in our festive fun and frolics and it is a challenge to stay moderate at parties! You can give your liver, a major organ of cleansing, a helping hand during this time by eating and drinking a few key foods. The following foods are considered to be very useful – garlic and onions / broccoli and sprouts / beetroot / apples and dark berry fruits / artichokes / salad greens such as endive and rocket. Freshly squeezed lemon in a cup of hot water on rising, is said to promote liver activity as well as supporting gut motion!Have a Very Merry Healthy Christmas from us all at Canford Chase Nursing Home!

HOLIDAY LETTINGS -- A WHOLE NEW SEASON

In holiday lettings there are two seasons - summer and winter. Whilst we are keeping your income flowing with winter lets our sales staff are busy sell-ing the summer season to maintain our impressive 90% occupancy rate. Without a good winter let the summer profits can be lost. It is good that we are the only agent to have two branches including the only oneone in the town centre. We also offer in house main-tenance and laundry services, and are the only agent who publish their occupancy rates. Add this to being open 7 days a week and having a manned out-of-hours contact service and you'll see that we go the extra mile. This year we successfully supplied, and vetted winter tenants for all of our holiday properties with no or minimal voids. Next year we are changing our check in service to give greater flex-

ibility to our clients and maximize sales.

We caught up with Philip and Kieran at Southcoast Property to see how business is. “The amount of footfall that passes our door is not just the answer to the success that we have had since opening in April. The greatest measure of our success is that our business is growing through word of mouth recommendations from

landlords and tenants that we have assisted over the months since we opened on Poole Road in Westbourne.”, explained Kieran.“Our reputation has been built on honesty and integrity and you always have the full attention of father and son directors Philip and Kieran, who have built the company’s reputation to the standards you would expect, but unfortunately do not always receive. Our awareness, consideration & keen eye for detail has helped many landlords decide that Southcoast Property is the agent for them after receiving poor service in the past.”Kieran explained the importance of ARLA membership. “We are a registered member of ARLA (The Association of Residential Letting Agents) and with aliation comes a list of requirements from the agent and a number of protective measures for our landlords and tenants including protection to all our clients monies amongst many. This is not to be confused with agents regarding themselves as an ARLA agent because they have a member of sta who has taken an exam or two. As a member of ARLA we benet from continual updates in laws and legislation that non ARLA members may not have access to as easily. We are also members of The Property Ombudsman, which provides clients double protection regarding deposits and rental income.”“Landlords are only charged 4% on full management for the rst 3 months and 8% thereafter or we can nd you a tenant, reference them and then let you do all the worrying.”

Philip & Kieran’s nal message was, “to all our Landlords and Tenants now and in the future, we wish you a Happy Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year and hope that we hear from you soon.”

25 25 25 25 25 25 25 25 25 25 25 25 25 25 25We caught up with Philip and Kieran at Southcoast Property to see how business is.

Two Minute Bowen Pause explained by Ann Runyard

The two minute pause between Bowen moves does have the potential to confuse. It is the catalyst to the procedure and therefore fundamental to the outcome. Ann Runyard has a helpful explanation. The pause can appear a long time whilst you ponder the logic for the practitioner to leave you alone in the room. When I rst experienced this fascinating therapy seven years ago I was of similar mind. I also thought the whole concept was a doddle until regular treatment and years of continuous in depth training, taught me how profoundly skillful and eective it is.The whole object of the exercise is to allow yourself to come out of your left-sided brain (logic v fast lane) and allow yourself into the right-sided brain (creative v slow lane). This allows the body to leave the fast central nervous system where we live most of our time and enter the slow one, where healing takes place. This only happens when the decision is made to let go.The other important factor is, by leaving the room, the practitioner eliminates any conict of energies This allows the information, keyed into the body by each move to be absorbed and correlated, this happens to be more eective when you are alone.

As the Bowen takes eect and this can happen as quickly as the rst two moves, and once your brain is moving from one hemisphere to the next and

approaching the slow lane, you have cracked it. I must emphasis that this is your responsibility not the practitioner’s, whose skill is to perform accurate and eective manoeuvres. It is called team work. During the pause the practitioner is recording your response by way of touch, vision and intuition. So, may I say to those of you who cannot relax well and may have given up before the completed course - abandon the fast lane, each person will dier in their capacity to heal and who knows what you may be capable of if you give yourself permission.
