Just as your consistent presence encourages others to follow, so does your absence encourage others to follow. 2. Delegating spiritual responsibility to ANYONE else. Your responsibility as a parent is to teach your children to love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. That translates to say, “My relationship to God is the most important thing in my life.” It will take your total dedication to accomplish this. This responsibility requires total commitment from both mom and dad. Mom can’t do it alone. The youth minister can’t do it. The Bible class teachers can’t do it. They can all help, but if you truly want your children to grow up and love the Lord, accept your responsibility to lead your family. -Ken Stegall

The Most Important Job You Will Ever Have

For every argument there is always a counterargument. It’s

really easy to be definite if we’ve never considered the other side.

We’ve all heard grandparents say (after they have kept their

grandchildren for a few days), “God knew what he was doing

when he made it so that you have kids when you’re young!” I can

amen that.

But there’s another side to that coin. It reads, “It’s a shame that

young people have kids before they know enough to understand

what’s really important!” Ironically, this last sentiment may be

most often felt by those who now realize the mistake(s) we made

when we were rearing our children.

What are some of the mistakes that parents make?

1. Allowing ANYTHING to keep you from attending every

assembly of the church with your children. The most

important teaching tool you have is consistency. When you

choose to not attend an assembly, realize that you are saying

to your children, “This is more important than being at

church.” Your absence speaks a message as loudly as your

presence. Just as your consistent presence encourages others

to follow, so does your absence encourage others to follow.

2. Delegating spiritual responsibility to ANYONE else. Your

responsibility as a parent is to teach your children to love God

with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. That translates

to say, “My relationship to God is the most important thing in

my life.” It will take your total dedication to accomplish this.

This responsibility requires total commitment from both

mom and dad. Mom can’t do it alone. The youth minister can’t

do it. The Bible class teachers can’t do it. They can all help,

but if you truly want your children to grow up and love the

Lord, accept your responsibility to lead your family.

Farewell Note

I will be retiring from Exxon Mobil and moving back to Ohio the end of May. It’s been a joy being a part of the Woodland Oaks Family the last two years. The fellowship, classes, sermons and the singing have been a blessing. Keep me in your prayers as I transition. May God continue to bless you. Darla Prince
