Dean Hunt Memorial Award
Evelyn Nonthe Sanchez
Dean Hunt was the junior class president in 1973. This amazing young man battled cancer his entire Junior year and unfortunately passed away that same year. This award is in his memory.
This award goes to a JUNIOR who is OUTSTANDING in the field of LEADERSHIP.

Edgar “Mutt” Ford was a legendary head football coach for many years at Westwood. The Memorial Award is given to the male and female athlete that participates

J.S. Sturdevant served Westwood as Principal from 1970 to 1981. This prestigious award is given to the top female student athlete.

Gordon He
E.R. Brimhall served as the first Principal of Westwood from 1962-1970. His memorial award is given to the top male student athlete.

Mel Sizemore was the very first Assistant Principal at Westwood High School beginning in the 1962-1963 school year. He came to Westwood from Mesa High School along with Elias Brimhall, who
was our first Principal. Mesa High’s loss and Westwood’s gain. Melvin was a dynamic fair playing Administrator. He was like the “Energizer Bunny”…always involved with his beloved
students…Class of 1965, 1967, 1969, etc. This award is given to one male and one female senior who excels in SERVICE and LEADERSHIP.

Molly Porter
Jack Joyce was the Principal of Westwood from 1981-1996. He had amazing school spirit and a love for Westwood. The criteria for this award are as follows: must be a senior, have a HIGH
ENERGY level and be a MOTIVATOR that consistently ENCOURAGES SCHOOL-WIDE SPIRIT. Although the student may not be a cheerleader in the classic sense of the word, this is a student who “cheerleads” by helping and encouraging others to achieve a common goal for
the good of Westwood.

Harold Crenshaw was the Principal of Westwood from 1996-2002. He was a big man with a big heart that always stressed equality. Awarded to a senior, this scholarship goes to a student who promotes UNITY, is sensitive to DIVERSITY, and has demonstrated LEADERSHIP at Westwood.

IB Neal ScholarsThe IB Neal Scholarship is awarded to three IB Diploma Graduates that were selected and voted on by our IB teachers. Each award carries a $3000 scholarship that is sponsored by a generous family of a former Westwood IB graduate. The qualifications for the IB Neal Scholarship are captured in the IB learner profile which defines what it means to be an IB Student - an inquirer, a thinker, a communicator, someone who is knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, caring, a risk-taker, balance and reflective. Of the 1.6 million Juniors who take the PSAT exam only 1.25% earn scores that qualify them as semifinalists. Then after a competitive application process that looks at academic records, SAT scores, participation in school and community
activities, leadership, honors and awards received, only a selected group students are chosen to be Finalists.
