The HAC Committee is proud to welcome you to our production of Annie.

This musical allows you to see through the eyes of a little orphan girl what life was like during the Depression of the 1930s. Through comedy, song, dance, drama and tragedy, you experience a story of unconditional love and acceptance, things that we still all strive for today.

We are very proud of HAC’s rich theatre history, which includes dramatic plays, comedies, farces and spectacular musicals. For 51 years, HAC has been committed to producing shows of the highest quality. What makes HAC so special is the coming together of performers of all ages and experience. Everyone is welcome, irrespective of whether you are just starting out, formally trained or just want to give it a go so you can tick it off your “bucket list”.

A production of this magnitude does not just happen. It takes hard work from many people. The process started in July 2016 and has evolved into a cast and crew of over 120 people, all volunteers passionately working together to create what you now see on-stage. Of course, without the vision and drive of our Director, Emily Friedrichsen-Hay, the show would not have eventuated. Emily and her team have had a clear vision from the beginning and have worked tirelessly to see this vision become reality.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone involved for their commitment and dedication to the production, including set

construction and painting, costumes, properties, orchestra,

Front of House, publicity, advertising, sponsorship, sound,

lighting, backstage - the list goes on. It is a huge team requiring

people with varied skills and talents.

To the families of the cast and crew, thank you for supporting

them throughout the production. We understand the sacrifices

that are made by everyone, and we want you to know it does

not go unnoticed. As you sit in the audience, we hope you

watch your loved ones with pride at what they have achieved.

To our valued sponsors, thank you for your ongoing support

of HAC. We could not produce such quality productions, year

after year, without your assistance. We trust that you are proud

to be associated with such an innovative, community-minded

organisation.

Finally, to our audience, thank you for coming along, some

of you more than once, to watch our fantastic production.

Without you, HAC simply would not exist. It is that simple!

We encourage all those who are passionate about theatre to

get involved with HAC. Integrating the Arts more fully into our

lives enriches us all and fosters community development. At

HAC, we are constantly looking at more ways we can make

this happen.

So, sit back, relax and enjoy our production of Annie.

Remember, no matter what happens in life, “the sun will come

out tomorrow!”

Welcome from the Committee

Bonnie Mellor

- Annie -Bonnie’s first HAC production is a wish come true! Bonnie saw her first musical when she was five years old and it just happened to be Annie. She decided then that that’s what she wanted to do - be Annie, and one day see her name in lights. Bonnie is thrilled to share the role with Claudia. They have formed a close friendship.

Bonnie loves to dance, act and sing. She dances with Dynamic Dance Ararat, and has won trophies and medals in eisteddfods around Victoria. She has performed in school productions at St Patrick’s Primary School in Stawell. Now in Grade 6, Bonnie has two leadership roles. She is sports captain, which involves organising sporting activities and leading Joseph House on sports days. She has represented the school at cross country, swimming and athletic events, and soccer. Bonnie’s favourite part of school is being choir leader; she leads the national anthem every Friday at assembly, and leads the choir at other events. She was invited to sing on Andrew Chinn’s Butterfly Choir for a CD recording in Melbourne. ‘Welcome to All’ was released on CD and YouTube in January 2017.

Bonnie studies Grade 2 piano, enjoys gymnastics, trampolining and water-skiing. She has a big brother Max, two guinea pigs named Louie and Russell, and a dog named Pepper. Her favourite foods are spaghetti and doughnuts, but she hates ravioli. Bonnie thanks you for coming, and hopes you enjoy the show.

Emily Friedrichsen-Hay

- Director -Since moving to Horsham six and a half years ago, I have been lucky to be involved in four HAC shows, as well a number of Horsham College productions. I have learned from some brilliant people along the way, taking on various roles including Director of Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood in 2015 and Hairspray Jr in 2016.

It was with encouragement and support from Larissa Riddell, Simon Dandy and Lisa Thomas that I assembled a team to help bring Annie to life. We have been planning since February 2016, and we are thrilled to now bring you the story of this spunky orphan.

I would like to thank the following people: Simon Dandy our Producer for keeping me in order; Larissa Riddell and Beau Ladlow for always giving it to me straight; Lisa Thomas for her vocal direction; Celia Fairley for her knowledgeable and creative contribution to the choreography; Karen Gebert and the orchestra; Jack Janetzki and Colin and Gen Kreymborg and their teams for the amazing sets and props; and Samantha Prollius and Natasha Eilola, Jodie Saunders, Stacey McClure and their teams for making our cast look incredible on-stage. I must give a special mention to the Risson Family, Samantha Prollius, Ash and Dylan Fulton for their ongoing support. I couldn’t have done any of this without all of these people. To the cast and orchestra – you are the show! We can tell you to sing louder, dance harder, learn lines faster, or dress you in ridiculous costumes, but if you are not prepared to give 100%, the show would not be what it is. Thank you for bringing your passion to Annie.

I am so grateful for this incredible experience. I have loved every minute of it, the laughter, smiles, arguments, tears and conundrums. Collaborating with many different people is never easy, but I have learned so much from them all, and our hard work has paid off. I will miss the family that this show has created, and I look forward to working with such an amazing group of people again soon. ‘Bet ya bottom dollar’ I do!

Simon Dandy

- Executive Producer -I was honoured to be asked to assist with this production. Annie holds a special place for me since my father and sister performed in it in Geelong when I was ten.

A production of this scale does not happen without the stoic dedication of so many people. What you see on-stage tonight is the culmination of hundreds, if not thousands, of hours by so many people – all of whom are volunteers. Sometimes, you just sit back and smile when you see nearly 130 people working so hard together to get the job done; it’s extraordinary, really.

The production team deserves a huge pat on the back. It has been a journey, with bumps in the road. However, we have overcome every obstacle as a team, and got things done. Congratulations must go to Emily for her vision, passion and dedication to the production. Without her, the show remains an idea instead of an on-stage reality. She has been supported so well by the creative team. Lisa, Larissa, Beau, Celia and Karen have all been instrumental in setting standards and leading this amazing team of people.

It is difficult to thank everyone here, and I would inevitably leave someone out. I encourage you to browse the production team list in the program to get an idea of how many people it takes to create a musical.

Finally, I would like to thank my family from the bottom of my heart. Samara, Kirrily and Fletcher support me through all the rehearsals, meetings, late nights, singing in the shower and the production season. You mean the world to me and I love you so much.

Now, sit back and enjoy the wonderful talent with which we in the Wimmera are

blessed.

Claudia Lopez-O’Donnell

- Annie -Claudia is in Year 6 at Horsham West Primary School. She has always loved musical theatre and singing in front of an audience. She won her first talent quest at a previous school when she was

six by singing The Carpenter’s ‘Close to you’. She likes many different types of music, but

her favourite songs to sing are show tunes and ballads. Her favourite stage shows are Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Matilda and Annie. Annie was the first big show she ever saw in Melbourne, in 2012, so it has a special place in her heart. Claudia

has appeared in a number of Horsham West Primary School productions,

including as Fern in the 2015 production of Charlotte’s Web.

Claudia enjoys playing piano, reading and travelling. She also loves eating food from

around the world. Her favourite destinations are Spain, where she has a lot of relatives, the United Arab Emirates, where she has lived, and Melbourne’s China Town, where her favourite restaurant is Juicy Bao. Claudia also likes reading fantasy and detective novels and is a big fan of Sherlock Holmes and British comedy films. Her

favourite actors are Katharine Hepburn and Asa Butterfield.

Claudia is honoured and excited to play Annie because Annie is a strong but kind character who is a good role model for children. She is also pleased to share the role with Bonnie Mellor, who has become a very close friend.

CastA message from...

Ziggy

- Sandy -Ziggy, a three-year-old Cavoodle with Broadway ambitions, is thrilled to make his stage debut in HAC’s Annie. When not strutting his stuff on-stage, Ziggy is a loving big brother to his little human brother Isaac. They have lots of fun chasing each other around, playing fetch or going on big walks together. Ziggy has had a blast getting to know the cast and crew of Annie and has especially loved all of the pats and cuddles he has received. You can never have too many pats!

Harriet Overman

- Emmy -Harriet is eleven years old and attends Ss Michael & John’s Primary School. This is the first time she has been involved with HAC. Harriet loves to sing and to entertain. She has been taking

singing lessons for the past three years, and has been involved in end-of-year concerts and Horsham Carols by Candlelight. Harriet also loves sport, craft, and the outdoors. She is so excited to be a part of this production, and to play the orphan Emmy. She hopes you all enjoy the show!

Lucia Lopez-O’Donnell

- Pepper -Lucia is in Year 8 at Horsham College. This is her first HAC

production and she is very excited to be playing the lively character Pepper. In past years, Lucia has participated in Horsham College’s production of Hairspray Jr and several Horsham West Primary School musicals. Lucia is a part of the Horsham College band and plays piano and trumpet. Lucia enjoys travelling and reading. Her favourite authors are Scott Westerfeld and Melina Marchetta. Her favourite musical theatre production of all time is Matilda.

Adriene Dawson

- Jaz -This is Adriene’s first performance with HAC, and she is delighted to be playing

the role of the orphan Jaz. Adriene loves dance lessons with Hamilton Dance Company, singing lessons, competing in eisteddfods, and playing netball. She lives with her mum, dad, sister and eleven pets. Adriene attends Hamilton North Primary School, and she is thrilled to be music captain this year. Adriene is excited to be a part of Annie; it is a fantastic opportunity. Adriene hopes

you enjoy the show.

Penny Lopez-O’Donnell

- Molly -Penny is in Year 4 at Horsham West Primary School. She made her stage debut in 2016 as the lead character Clare in the Horsham West Primary production of To Be or Not to Be Me. She is excited to be playing the role of Molly in Annie because Molly is so cheeky and funny. Penny’s hobbies are playing the piano, basketball, netball, playing with her foster dogs and reading. Her favourite

authors are Cressida Cowell and JK Rowling. Her

favourite actress is Emma Watson.

Karla Creasey

- July -Karla is fourteen years old and extremely excited to be involved in another HAC production. She has previously been part of the 50th Anniversary Spectacular (2016), and worked backstage for both The Wedding Singer (2016) and Peter Pan Jr (2015). Karla has been performing since she was nine years old; her first production was a Horsham West Primary School musical. Since then she has loved the stage. Karla is very excited for you to see this amazing show.

Tiani Grosser

- Tessie -Tiani’s recent performance as Florence in the Uniting Church production, A Passion

for History, saw her present the role of a delightful old lady who could wear three pairs of spectacles while still not being able to find her glasses! The Horsham West Primary School musical productions, Horsham School of Dance concerts and Horsham Music Academy recitals are always the highlights of Tiani’s year. All this acting, dancing and piano only just leaves time for singing, which she now enjoys with Horsham School of Music. Ten-year-old

Tiani is over the moon to be playing Tessie for you today.

Ella Ballinger

- Kate -Ella has previously performed in two HAC shows, Peter Pan Jr and the 50th Anniversary Spectacular, and she is thrilled

to be a part of Annie. Ella enjoys dancing at The Dancers’ Zone and playing netball. She has attended Kick Up the Artz classes, and was a part of Horsham College’s Hairspray in 2016. Ella is hoping to pursue a career in the acting, singing and dancing field and wishes to one day make it to the West End. She has had an amazing time being in the cast of Annie, and hopes you enjoy the show!

Lara Bowman

- Laura -Lara is no stranger to the stage; Annie is her eighth musical and third HAC production. Her hobbies include singing, writing and acting. Lara wishes to one day pursue an acting career. She has had two lead

roles in past musicals: in Horsham West Primary School’s The

Clueless Case directed by Larissa Riddell and HAC’s Peter Pan Jr. Lara is so excited to be a part of Annie and she hopes that you enjoy the experience just as much as she has.

Sienna Walsgott

- Duffy -Sienna loves singing and dancing, so she was delighted to be given

the opportunity to perform in Annie, her first HAC production. Sienna is in Year 5 at Horsham Primary School and has performed with the school’s

Signing and Singing Choirs. Sienna studies tap and jazz at Avenue Dance Studio, and she loves performing in the annual concert. Sienna really enjoyed her role in Horsham Primary School’s 2016 production The Puny Pirates of Ponky Island. She also enjoys swimming, running, netball and basketball.

Rebekah Wundke

- Kimmy -This is Rebekah’s first HAC production and she is proud to be performing the role of Kimmy the orphan. She is in Year 5 at Holy Trinity Lutheran School. Apart from enjoying Performing Arts and Visual Arts, Rebekah is a keen reader, piano and sports player. She is no stranger to the stage, having performed in two HTLS school musicals Joseph, and Abba-solutely Snow-

White. She is actively involved in calisthenics and school

aerobics and enjoys singing at home. Rebekah loves the story of Annie and

hopes you do too!

Ebony Hart

- Nae -Annie is Ebony’s first appearance with HAC, however she is no stranger

to the stage, performing in Holy Trinity Lutheran School’s Through

the Looking Glass in 2014, and a variety of Horsham School of Dance performances over the past six years. Ebony is in Grade 6 at HTLS, and is undertaking her National Level 5 in Gymnastics at Natimuk and District Gymnastics Club. In her spare time she enjoys dancing (ballet/contemporary), swimming, drawing and singing. Ebony hopes you enjoy the show as much as she does!

Jessica Wilson

- Mrs Pugh -Jessica lives and breathes all aspects of musical theatre. She has been a member of HAC since 1999 and has been a Committee member since 2009. Some favourites of her many HAC theatre credits include The Pirates of Penzance, Anything Goes, Cinderella as Minerva, Cats as Jennyenydots, Nunsense as Sr Robert Anne, Grease as Jan, Godspell, What’s New Pussycat? as Witch Winifred, and most recently HAC’s 50th Anniversary Spectacular. Jess is a primary school teacher, owner of local business Baby Dimple, and Mummy to future Broadway stars Charlie and Harrison. She hopes you enjoy this wonderful show.

Faye Johns

- Mrs Greer -A member of HAC since 1997, Faye has a passion for singing and all things musical. She started in the chorus

for Jesus Christ Superstar, which led to minor lead and lead roles in Les Miserables and Cats. Faye has also had the opportunity to expand her skills and knowledge off-stage, having worked Front of House, sound, as Assistant Director and as a Vocal Director. While having a love for all things theatre, Faye has a soft spot for

the heart-warming story that is Annie, one of her first introductions to theatre as a girl.

Larissa Riddell

- Miss Hannigan -Larissa is thrilled to be playing the role of gin-soaked Miss Hannigan. A Drama teacher and co-founder of Kick Up The Artz: Acting and Creative Movement Training, she has refrained from physically, verbally or mentally assaulting her students (thus far) over her career, so she is making the most of this on-stage opportunity. Larissa was eight when her Grandma took her to see the original Annie film. She was scarred for years after watching the railroad bridge scene, having re-occurring nightmares of plummeting to her death. She thanks her two daughters for being willing practice targets for her scripted abuse.

Jamie Thomas

- Rooster Hannigan -Jamie debuted in HAC’s Bye Bye Birdie in 2007. He has performed in St Brigid’s College’s musicals, and at local concerts and eisteddfods.

Jamie studies at Horsham School of Music, and with Connie Lemke in Ballarat. He portrayed Captain Hook in Peter Pan Jr (2015), for which he received a commendation from the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria. Despite the danger of being typecast as the villain, Jamie enjoyed playing Glen Guglia in The Wedding Singer (2016). He now takes on another shady character in Rooster.

Yolande Grosser

- Annette -Yolande performed her first song and dance on-stage at seven, and can still feel those tap-dancing time steps running through her veins. Singing in the Sunday School choir as she grew up, Yolande added classical ballet and piano to her repertoire, then lead roles in Nhill College’s Bye Bye Birdie and The Boyfriend. Nhill’s Piggery Lane Players’ productions were a blast, while Drama studies at university were a bit ‘blah’, but working as an extra on lots of movies, television dramas, and advertising sets was brilliant. Nothing compares to a good old-fashioned song and dance routine though. Enjoy!

Noel Whiteside

- President Roosevelt -Noel has been a member of HAC for fifteen years, and considers HAC to be family. He has enjoyed learning, working and succeeding with a fun-loving and talented team. He has even appeared on-stage with his daughter in a couple of productions. In Annie, Noel lands back on-stage as President Roosevelt; it’s a new experience for him to play a single character - he’s used to playing multiple roles because of the usually under-manned male ensemble. Annie will also challenge Noel’s ability to sit still for extended periods of time! He’ll do his best and hopes you ‘wheely, wheely’ enjoy the show.

Nigel Binney

- Drake -Nigel couldn’t miss the opportunity to be on-stage for another HAC production. He most recently performed in the highly successful 50th Anniversary Spectacular last year. Prior to that, Nigel was part of the HAC productions including The Secret

Garden and The Mikado. Nigel has loved the story of Annie ever since he saw the film as a child at a

country drive-in. As a bonus, he gets to share the experience with his daughter, Lucinda, and the rest of the wonderful cast and crew. Nigel thanks all the families and supporters who make it all possible.

Elle Adamson

- Lily St Regis -Jumping back into Performing Arts last year as part of HAC’s The

Wedding Singer, Elle has been bitten by the bug, and couldn’t help but audition for Annie! In her first major role in a production, she has loved the challenge of getting into the character of villainess Lily. In 2016, she also participated in Horsham Carols By Candlelight, and aside from this, she is a keen netballer at Rupanyup Football Netball Club. She would like to thank the whole cast and crew of Annie for an amazing experience, and hopes you enjoy the show!

Simon Dandy

- Oliver Warbucks -Simon first saw Annie as a ten-year-old in Geelong, watching his sister and father on-stage, and

has dreamed of performing in it. Simon has been with

the HAC since 2006 and has loved every minute. Each production is a chance to meet dynamic and talented people from all walks of life. He has loved working with the cast and crew, especially the amazingly talented children. According to Simon, the best thing about playing Oliver Warbucks is that he doesn’t have to wear a wig. There has to be some benefit to losing your hair! Simon hopes you enjoy the show.

Natasha Eilola

- Cecile -Natasha started her HAC career with Cinderella back in 2006. In one way or another, she has been involved in every production since, from backstage to sound, make-up, and Front of House. She is very excited to be involved in one of her all-time favourite shows. Natasha hopes you enjoy the show!

Caroline O’Donnell

- Grace Farrell -Caroline is excited to be involved in her first HAC production and to be getting back into singing after a break of many years. Her hobbies are reading, cooking, walking the dog, and tormenting Year 12 English students at Horsham College, some of whom are in this production of Annie. Caroline is also proud to join her daughters

on-stage and hopes that Miss Hannigan instils some discipline and/or fear into them.

Lucinda Binney

- Connie Boylan, A Star To Be -Lucinda is in Year 12, and she is very excited to be performing in her third HAC show. Lucinda was involved in HAC’s 50th Anniversary Spectacular (2016) and Peter Pan Jr (2015). She also enjoys performing in productions at Horsham College and was most recently seen playing Prudy Pingleton in Hairspray. Lucinda’s usual week includes dance, singing lessons and rehearsals of some sort. This year she will also be studying VCE Dance and Drama. Lucinda hopes you enjoy the show and appreciate the hard work and effort the cast and crew have put in!

Belinda Elliott

- Bonnie Boylan, A Star To Be -Belinda caught the theatre bug during HAC’s Anything Goes in 2001, and has been involved on-stage and behind the scenes ever since. Her favourite roles include the adorable old lady Dora in What’s New Pussycat?, Sandy in Grease, roles for which she received Guild nominations, and Velma Kelly from Chicago in the 50th Anniversary Spectacular. Belinda has loved watching the children develop their characters, and is thrilled at the wonderful talent coming through. Belinda loves being mum to her precious little man, Isaac, and thanks her partner Josh for his support which enables her to follow her passion. She is also very proud to be sharing the stage with her furry friend Ziggy.

Emma Rissman

- Monnie Boylan, A Star To Be -Emma has been involved with the HAC for a number of years now. Her past HAC productions include Bye Bye Birdie, Cats, and What’s New Pussycat? She has also been involved in a number of Horsham College productions. Emma works as a hairdresser, coaches gymnastics at the Natimuk and District Gymnastics Club, and enjoys singing with Horsham School of Music in her spare time. She is thrilled to be a part of Annie, and hopes that you enjoy the show.

Shanae Thomas

- Ronnie Boylan, A Star To Be -Shanae’s HAC debut was in What’s New Pussycat? in 2014. She has also been involved in school productions: her favourite roles have included Anna in The King and I at St Brigid’s College and Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray at Horsham College. Shanae takes singing and dance lessons, and enjoys performing in concerts and eisteddfods. She works at the YMCA, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She would like to thank Emily and all the wonderful cast and crew for the opportunity to be part of such a special show.

Jemima Olston

- Vonnie Boylan, A Star To Be -Jemima is excited to be returning to the stage with HAC after having a break from performing. Jemima has appeared in more than ten HAC productions, most recently in Grease. Her favourite role was one of the Three Little Maids in The Mikado. Jemima would like to thank her husband Mat, and her family, for looking after their one-year-old daughter Romy while she spent many hours at rehearsals. She hopes you all enjoy the show!

Simon Risson

- Ickes -Simon has no idea how he said yes to being a part of this! After living in Horsham for fifteen years, being inspired by his four incredibly talented daughters, and with some encouragement from his beautiful wife, Andrea, he decided to try something new. Previous dancing experience has only resulted in jumping into a doorframe and splitting his head open, while singing has brought mixed results. This should be fun for all of us. Enjoy the show!

Jan Dunlop

- Perkins, Woman 2/4 -This is Jan’s third HAC production; she played the Queen in What’s New Pussycat? in 2014, and loved being involved in many numbers in the 50th Anniversary Spectacular. She also enjoys performing at the Dirt Music Festival in Rupanyup. Jan enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is heavily involved with the Rupanyup Football Netball Club, where she has been a committee member off and on for over 25 years. She held the position of President from 2013 to 2015, and is a life member. She loves living in Rupanyup and being a member of a small but vibrant community.

James Henwood

- Howe, Cop, Lt Ward -James has been singing for as long as he can remember, at Carols by Candlelight and at the Uniting Church. Annie is his fifth show with HAC; he has previously been involved in two plays and two musicals, including What’s New Pussycat? (2014), and the 50th Anniversary Spectacular. It has been lots of fun to be involved in Annie, and he hopes everyone enjoys watching the show as much as we have enjoyed bringing it together. In his real life, James manages the Oven Door Bakery and is married with three children, with a new addition arriving in September.

Beau Ladlow

- Cabinet Minister - - Radio Announcer -

Beau has aspired to a career in radio ever since he made an appearance on the Triple H radio program The Pop Tarts when he was just a wee poppet. Since then, he’s taken every available opportunity to throw on an American accent and speak gibberish to the masses. It is Beau’s pleasure now to keep his “face for radio” mostly on the side stage, as he delivers an array of radio personality voices throughout the performance. He invites you to have a titter at the friendly humour of the show, and to sing along to the songs you know.

Jack Janetzki

- George H Dern - - Judge Brandeis -

There won’t be many Horsham people who aren’t familiar with Jack. He became involved with HAC way back in the faraway land of the 1970s, and he is still a staunch supporter of all things theatre. He loves making new friends and enjoying the character roles. Some of his favourite roles are Fagin (Oliver), Major General Stanley (The Pirates of Penzance) and Thenardier (Les Miserables). Jack, with his wife Jan, produced God Came Near and He Chose the Nails at the Lutheran Church, where he also enjoys singing and playing guitar for Sunday worship services.

Max Pietruschka

- Moganthau -When asked to produce this brief bio, Max was again rather shocked to realise that he has more than fifty years’ experience of singing with numerous choirs and groups; among them Men in Suits, and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Choral. He has also worked closely with Dr Jonathan Welch OAM, with The Choir of Hard Knocks. Max was in The Wedding Singer in 2016, so Annie will be Max’s second appearance with HAC. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to build friendships through the vehicle of singing.

Mark Busbridge

- Bert Healy - - Mr Bundles, Hull -

Mark is excited to be involved in his first HAC production. He has enjoyed playing Mr Bundles, the humble laundry man, and Bert Healy, the charismatic radio host. In his younger days, Mark was involved with performances in Adelaide (even performing alongside David Campbell) and, more recently, in local church productions. Mark enjoys teaching Performing Arts at a local primary school. He has four lovely children, a beautiful wife and a very cute toy poodle named Brandi.

Amy Anselmi

- Dance Chorus -Annie is Amy’s eighth show with HAC. She has appeared as Doris in What’s New Pussycat? in 2015, as Electra in 2008’s Cats, and was one of three choreographers for the 50th Anniversary Spectacular last year. Amy teaches Dance at Horsham College, and teaches lyrical contemporary and jazz at Avenue Dance Studio. She performs and choreographs for the Art Is… and Nati Frinj festivals. Along with Larissa Riddell (our own Miss Hannigan) she operates Kick Up The Artz: Acting and Creative Movement Training Studio. Amy would like to thank her husband James for his love and support.

Dylan Emmerson

- Fred McCracken - - Man 2/4, Eddie -

Dylan joins the HAC stage for the first time in Annie. From having next to no experience on a stage other than playing keyboard/piano, Dylan is hoping to just have fun and to see what performing is all about. He did play a part in Horsham College’s Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood production and thought he would give acting another go. Dylan enjoys getting out in the community and has done this by playing sport. He enjoys tennis, table tennis and football, among other sports. He believes that Annie will be another great way to connect to others.

Brittany Bates

- Dance Chorus -Brittany is a passionate dancer, singer and actor. Annie is her fourth HAC production; she appears as part of the dance chorus. Brittany has also participated in Horsham College and Horsham West Primary School productions over her schooling years. She is now a first-year apprentice hairdresser at D’Coco Hair Studio, and is looking forward to helping out with hair and make-up for the show. She hopes you all enjoy the production!

Imogen Cross

- Dance Chorus -This is Imogen’s third appearance with HAC, and she is very delighted to perform for you. In the past, she enjoyed participating in HAC’s Peter Pan Jr, and the 50th Anniversary Spectacular. Imogen has learned dancing at The Dancers’ Zone for nine years, and she is excited at the thought of taking part in many more concerts in the future. Imogen is in Year 8 at Horsham College, where she took part in Hairspray Jr in 2016, and looks forward to being involved in more school productions. Imogen hopes you enjoy Annie!

Celia Fairley

- Dance Chorus -Following the excitement of performing in HAC’s 2016 production of The Wedding Singer, Celia is thrilled to be back on-stage in Annie. Though she identifies primarily as a dancer, a serious degree of extroversion has encouraged Celia’s participation in a diverse array of performance opportunities. Be it the eisteddfod circuit of regional Victoria or All Star Cheerleading nationals on the Gold Coast, she’s most energised when on the stage. She’d like to thank you, gracious audience, and hopes you enjoy the rollercoaster of laughter, sadness and tender moments that this show offers.

Julia Gasparini

- Woman 1/3, Ensemble -This is Julia’s third HAC production, having performed as Smee in Peter Pan Jr, and in the 50th Anniversary Spectacular. Julia has a strong passion for the Performing Arts and currently studies VCE Drama at Horsham College, has singing lessons with Jenny Grover, and dance lessons at Avenue Dance Studio. Julia has been a part of Horsham College productions since Year 8 and recently played the lead role of Tracy Turnblad in the 2016 production of Hairspray Jr. She is thrilled to be a part of this amazing musical. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Grace is playing Sophie and is also in the ensemble alongside one of her little sisters Lily. Grace is enjoying her second gap year which could possibly turn into a gap life, but she will continue to do musicals for as long as her vocal chords let her. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Malachy O’Brien

- Young Boy, Ensemble -This is Mal’s first HAC production, and he is very excited to be taking part. Last year saw him take to the stage in Horsham West Primary School’s production, and he is an avid member of Kick Up the Artz. Lily O’Brien

- Young Girl, Ensemble -This is Lily’s first production with HAC and she is very excited to be a part of the ensemble. Lily previously performed in Horsham College’s 2016 production of Hairspray Jr and, in her spare time, enjoys singing, acting and dancing. She hopes you enjoy the show as much as she enjoys being in it.

Oscar O’Brien

- Ensemble -Oscar is very excited to be involved in HAC’s production of Annie! Sophie is in Year 11 at St Brigid’s College, and although she has no clue what she wants to do when she leaves school, she does know that it would be a pleasure to keep performing throughout her life. Sophie wishes that the positive energy and excitement of everyone on-stage will make the audience feel the same way. She thanks you for coming!

Loucas Vettos

- Dance Chorus -Loucas has been involved in many HAC productions, recently performing as Thénadier from Les Miserables in the 50th Anniversary Spectacular. Loucas thoroughly enjoyed choreographing The Wedding Singer in 2016, creating a strong bond with many of the cast members and making friendships for life. He is ecstatic to announce he will be Assistant Director and Choreographer for HAC’s next musical, Rent, opening October 2017.

Jasper

- Ensemble -Jasper Thomas is a three-year-old Maltese Shih Tzu. He loves to go walking and running along the river, and playing tug-of-war. Annie is Jasper’s first production, and he is very excited to be a part of it. His role is that of a stray dog who is nabbed by the dog catchers. Jasper hopes you enjoy the show. Look out for his fuzzy face in the upcoming Horsham College production of Legally Blonde Jr where he will play the awesome role of Bruiser Woods!

Won’t you please come get your baby Maybe... Based on the popular comic strip, Annie tells the story of a little

orphan girl left by her parents at New York’s Municipal Orphanage in 1922. Unlike most other orphans, this feisty young girl holds on to the belief that her parents are alive and they will, someday, come back for her.

She lives with her orphan friends in oppressive conditions under the care of the evil Miss Hannigan. She works their fingers to the bone for virtually no reward. It is a ‘Hard Knock Life’ for everyone, especially given the economic conditions of the Depression in the early 1930s.

Annie is always trying to escape the orphanage to find her parents. Every escape is an adventure into the depths of New York City. On her travels, she meets her furry friend, Sandy the dog. She convinces a police officer and dogcatcher that Sandy belongs to her. Despite her escapes, she never finds her parents, and always lands back in the linen closet at the orphanage.

In a stroke of luck for Annie, billionaire businessman Oliver Warbucks is looking for an orphan to stay with him for the Christmas holidays to help improve his public image. His secretary, Grace Farrell, is set the task of finding the orphan. After some serious negotiations with Miss Hannigan, Annie wins Miss Farrell’s heart, and the orphanage is replaced by a luxurious mansion.

At first, Warbucks is not impressed with an orphan in his house, especially a female orphan. He is a ruthless businessman who is interested only in making money. However, he soon learns that Annie is not so bad after all, and this kind, loving girl begins to melt his heart, so much so that Warbucks offers to adopt her. While very flattered, Annie cannot accept. Instead, she asks Warbucks and the most powerful man in America, if not the world, to help her find her parents.

Heartbroken, Warbucks pulls out all stops and calls in all favours to assist Annie in her quest to find her parents. He even offers a cheque for $50,000 to anyone who can prove they are Annie’s parents. This has the opposite effect – it brings out every imposter in America who is looking to strike it rich.

Miss Hannigan, her brother Rooster and accomplice Lily St Regis see an opportunity to get to ‘Easy Street’. Using detailed knowledge of Annie from the orphanage, Rooster and Lily disguise themselves as Mr and Mrs Mudge and pretend to be Annie’s parents. They are very convincing and manage to fool Warbucks, Miss Farrell and the mansion staff – at first.

Will they get away with it? Will Annie be taken away by the wicked Miss Hannigan and her cronies?

Fear not. Like any classic family tale, this story has a happy ending. Christmas will be the beginning of a wonderful new life for Annie, “Daddy” Warbucks, Miss Farrell, the orphans and the whole gang.

Orchestra

Karl Carmen

- Tuba -Karl first began playing tuba in Year 9 at secondary school and joined the school’s concert band where his passion for band music grew. He joined the Stawell brass band, where he was a member for five years before moving to Horsham for work. Work commitments resulted in Karl not playing any music for several years until he joined the Horsham Rural City Brass Band in 2014, and he is now the band master. He also plays in the Warracknabeal and Ararat City Brass Bands. Annie is Karl’s first production with HAC.

Rita Gasparini

- Assistant to Musical Director -Rita is very excited to be involved in her first HAC production. While it is something she has always wanted to do, her young family, amongst other things, meant that she could not commit to the many hours required to put on the high-quality shows for which HAC is renowned. But things change. Rita has thoroughly enjoyed her experience working not only with the very talented cast and crew of Annie, but mainly with the skilled musicians who make up the orchestra. Rita would like to thank her children for growing up, and Karen Gebert for the invitation to join the show.

Karen Gebert

- Conductor, Rehearsal Pianist -Karen is a teacher at Horsham West and Haven Primary schools, and also teaches piano at Horsham Music Academy. She has been involved in several HAC shows, including Cats, Nunsense and Grease. Karen enjoys the challenge of musical productions because of the range of styles of music involved, and because of the amazing opportunity to play with many wonderfully talented musicians. She is constantly amazed by the depth of local talent both on-stage and in the orchestra. Karen hopes that you enjoy the show.

Trish Heinrich

- Clarinet -Trish has recently joined the Warracknabeal band after not playing the clarinet for fifteen years. She previously played clarinet for her high school productions (but can’t remember which ones as it was, in her opinion, too long ago!). Trish is a mum to two beautiful children and has an awesome husband Stephen who has encouraged and supported her to be involved in Annie. Trish is the Nursing Unit Manager at Nhill Hospital. She has really enjoyed being involved with the orchestra for Annie.

Ashleigh Fogarty

- Piano -Ashleigh has been playing piano for 10 years, having been a student at Horsham Music Academy. She has competed in many Wimmera Eisteddfods on the piano. This is her first experience playing in an orchestra for a musical production. Ashleigh has recently completed her VCE and is having a gap year working with Wimmera Health Care Group. She hopes to study Occupational Therapy in the near future. In her spare time, Ashleigh enjoys playing hockey. She hopes that you enjoy the show as much as she has enjoyed being part of creating it.

‘Little Orphan Annie’, the comic strip by Harold Gray, debuted in August 1924. Originally featuring Otto, Gray was convinced to base the strip on the 1885 poem ‘Little Orphant Annie’, and so the protagonist became a girl, to whom Gray referred as “tougher than hell, with a heart of gold and a fast left…”.

Gray’s drawings were simplistic, with many characters’ eyes empty ovals, but this was done so readers could “impose their own fears … onto the narrative”. While Annie always wore a red dress, and was accompanied by Sandy, she never lived permanently with ‘Daddy’ Warbucks, only visiting when she was not foiling criminals, Nazis and Communists.

The strip became more political during the Depression: Gray disapproved of unions, income taxes and government interference,

and criticised Roosevelt’s New Deal. While this irritated some, ‘Little Orphan Annie’ demonstrated endless optimism, and its popularity grew.

In 1972, lyricist Martin Charnin proposed a musical. It was not a “literal adaptation”, but was “suggested” by the comic strip. Rather than recounting Annie’s adventures, her quest for her parents became the focus. Set during the Great Depression, Charnin, like Gray, wanted Annie to represent “decency, courage and optimism”.

The show ran on Broadway from April 1977 until January 1983. It was revived in 1997 and in 2012, and has toured widely. The song ‘Why Should I Change a Thing?’, was written for Anthony Warlow for the 2000/2001 Australian tour, and is now an optional extra.

David McMaster

- Guitar, Banjo -David’s first taste of theatre in the early ’70s was as the lead in his school’s production, and in the chorus of the Scouts’ Gang Show. His passion for music led to the formation of a rock cover band, Rift, who supported many big names including Cold Chisel and Billy Thorpe. In the ’90s, David joined Stawell outfit Dingus, and the more recent group, Squashed Frogs. These days David is known locally as Solo Dave, and performs at functions across the region. David is excited to work with the talented cast and crew on Annie, his first HAC production.

Michael Peterson

- Bass Guitar -Michael is no stranger to playing in rock bands, and enjoyed touring the country over a number of years until life got too busy. For the past ten years, the bass guitar has been in storage until he saw the opportunity to play with his daughter Kessia in Annie. Michael doesn’t read music, but has enjoyed the challenge of learning the songs. He married Jody Taberner in April, so the honeymoon is on hold until the end of the show… sorry Jody. This is Michael’s first appearance with HAC and first time playing in an orchestra. He hopes you enjoy the show.

Janelle Phillips

- Flute -Janelle completed a Bachelor of Music and Education Degree at VCA and Melbourne University then embarked on a performing and teaching career. Janelle’s flute playing led to an amazing adventure travelling and performing with local orchestras while living in the UK, popping over to a new European country every weekend, sometimes just to Italy for pizza or new shoes! Eventually she returned to Melbourne, teaching flute and a variety of instruments while building her own business running Offbeats Music School in Preston. Janelle’s favourite Annie tune is ‘Hooverville’ which she hopes you’ll enjoy too.

Kessia Peterson

- Keyboard -Kessia is very excited to be taking part in her third HAC production! Instead of her usual position as part of the cast, this time she has aligned herself more strongly with another of her passions - a member of the orchestra. Apart from studying Year 12 at Horsham College, Kessia is self-employed, owning her own music business Kessia Brooke, teaching piano, guitar and vocals as well as performing at different events in the community. She is very excited to be a part of Annie, and hopes you enjoy the show.

Mark Radford

- Percussion -Mark is excited to be playing with the Annie team in the redeveloped Horsham Town Hall Theatre. As a local Councillor and former Mayor of the Horsham Rural City, he is excited to see the new facility being used by our local artists and musicians. Mark has previously played percussion for HAC’s Cats, Bye Bye Birdie and Cinderella. He is the Bandmaster of the local Salvation Army Band, scenic photographer and moke owner.

Gabrielle Schultz

- Piccolo, Flute -Gabrielle describes herself as having played the flute and piccolo for a very, very long time! She is no stranger to HAC productions, having played in the orchestra and band for Bye Bye Birdie, Cats and Nunsense. Gabrielle is a secondary teacher at Goroke where she teaches VCE. She also plays the flute in a Latin jazz duo. Gabrielle has enjoyed being part of the orchestra for Annie, as she loves the music from the show. She hopes you enjoy the show.

Luise Sigel

- Violin -Luise, a plant pathologist with Agriculture Victoria, has lived in Horsham for the last four years. This is her first show with HAC. Luise has been playing the violin since she was 8. She also plays French Horn, which she has played in productions in Adelaide including The Sound of Music and Annie Get Your Gun. Luise is also a member of the Warracknabeal band. She hopes you enjoy the show.

Selina Smith

- Keyboard -Selina initially became involved in HAC as a taxi service for her son Bailey - until the Musical Director found out that she had more talent than that, and gave her a keyboard to play to cover the cello part. Selina has played piano for approximately thirty years, but this is her first time in an orchestra. Her previous musical experience was on-stage in The Pirates of Penzance. Selina works in reception and accounts at Lister House Clinic. Her other talents include being a horse whisperer. Selina has thoroughly enjoyed being part of Annie.

Jason Wright

- Trumpet, Clarinet -Jason is the Conductor and Music Director of Warracknabeal and District Band which comprises twenty-six members. He has been playing music for almost twenty years and has played in various bands, including the Horsham Rural City Brass Band, Werribee Concert Band, the Victorian State Youth Brass Band and Victorian State Youth Orchestra. Jason teaches music part-time at Hopetoun Secondary College. He plays many brass and woodwind instruments, and is passionate about sharing his musical knowledge and talents with others. Jason’s other major role in life is a stay-at-home dad to his three children, aged 4, 6 and 7.

Bailey Smith

- Tenor Saxophone -Bailey is in Year 10 at Horsham College and has been playing the saxophone for four years. He also is a member of the Warracknabeal and District Band. Bailey describes his first experience in the orchestra with HAC as a great experience. He particularly likes the Overture as he has a good part to play. Listen carefully for Bailey’s talents!

Production Team

Celia Fairley

- Co-choreographer - Celia is honoured to have the opportunity to assist with choreographing a show for HAC, and thanks the cast, crew and production team, especially Emily, for inviting her to travel this road with them. They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step; the journey of choreographing a show begins similarly. However, in a musical that single step must then be repeated, re-imagined, rehearsed and polished over many months. Of the many people Celia must thank for their support, Karen Gebert and Amy Anselmi deserve special mention.

Karen Gebert

- Musical Director -Annie is Karen’s first production as Musical Director, a role which has well and truly challenged her! She is delighted to have the opportunity to bring together a group of amazing local musicians to be the first to use the orchestra pit in the Town Hall Theatre. She has thoroughly enjoyed seeing the production come together and firmly believes that by somewhat reluctantly accepting the role of Musical Director, it has enabled her to realise her ambition. Karen is grateful for the support of the production team, the orchestra members and her family.

Beau Ladlow

- Assistant Director -Beau is honoured to be involved with Annie as a first-time member of the creative team, and is grateful to have such a talented and knowledgeable team to learn from. Beau has relished the opportunity to develop his skills through the critical analysis of this show. He encourages budding performers to immerse themselves in all facets of production, and is glad that the opportunity to do so exists at HAC. Beau would like to thank the cast and crew for making his first production in this role a pleasant experience.

Colin Kreymborg

- Stage Manager, Props -Colin has been involved with HAC since 2006, but he has appeared on-stage only twice. He is, however, right at home working behind the scenes: he has been part of Front of House, production teams and backstage crews since Cats in 2008, and is HAC’s Treasurer. He firmly believes that the backstage crew has the best seats in the house. Colin is honoured to be Stage Manager, and is grateful for the help and encouragement of all involved in this wonderful production. Sit back and enjoy this talented cast as they present Annie.

Jack Janetzki

- Set Construction -Jack’s role is to create believable backdrops for audiences and cast, and he would like to thank all those who have helped. He has worked on many sets, from the revolving barricade in Les Miserables to the upright stove for Cats. The challenge is to create safe sets that can be moved with the greatest of ease because the backstage crew work with no or little lighting. Jack has also enjoyed other roles at HAC, including Executive Producer, Committee member and President, and is proud to have been made a Life Member in 2010.

Lisa Thomas

- Vocal Director -Lisa operates her own business as a vocal teacher, and enjoys the thrill of seeing students achieve their best. She is involved in many community events, including Horsham Carols by Candlelight. Lisa has had various, mostly behind-the-scene, roles with HAC, including as Vocal Director and pit singer for the award-winning production of Godspell, and keyboardist and conductor for the band in The Wedding Singer. She is very happy to again provide vocal direction for Annie. Lisa would like to thank the cast and crew for their work on this show.

Gen Kreymborg

- Sound Assistant, Props -Gen loves being involved in HAC productions, and meeting so many talented people along the way. This wonderful journey began in 2006, when Gen assisted in making costumes for Cinderella. She has enjoyed many roles behind the scenes, including as a pit singer for Cats in 2008, Front of House, catering, properties, costumes, make-up and, in more recent years, supporting the sound team. Gen has once again enjoyed being part of the production team, and hopes that you enjoy every moment of Annie.

Natasha Eilola

- Costume Co-ordinator -While Natasha has been involved with various costume teams in many HAC productions, this is the first time she has taken on the role of Costume Co-ordinator. Working in a team to dress fifty people can be challenging but it is a lot of fun. Tash has really enjoyed the creative outlet and the challenge of creating a visual feast to match the fantastic music and vocals. She would like to thank all those who have helped by sourcing, sewing and adjusting costumes.

Ronnie Thomas

- Sound -Ronnie has successfully made his passion for sound and lighting into a business, which he runs while also managing and working his family farm. Ronnie is committed to providing an enjoyable experience for the audience and cast. He has provided technical support and advice to HAC for many years, and Annie marks Ronnie’s nineteenth consecutive production. In December 2016, Ronnie was recognised as a life member of HAC. Ronnie would like to thank his fellow tech crew for their hard work in making this show seen and heard.

Samantha Prollius

- Costume Co-ordinator -Samantha has been involved with HAC since moving to Horsham more than a decade ago. Her HAC on-stage credits include Grease and last year’s 50th Anniversary Spectacular. In 2006, she tried her hand at directing the musical Cinderella. Samantha has also had many years’ experience with Ballarat theatre companies, including in Guys and Dolls for Ballarat Lyric Theatre, and off-stage as Assistant Stage Manager, backstage crew, and in Properties. She has worked on costumes for many shows. Annie will be Samantha’s last HAC show as she is moving back to Ballarat later this year.

Belinda Elliott

- Program & Photography - - Graphic Design & Multimedia -Belinda has thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of putting together the graphic design for an iconic show such as Annie, wanting it to be both instantly recognisable and also to have a unique quality capturing the show’s essence. This included illustrating the Annie and Sandy characters for the logo, generating the poster and program concepts, capturing the cast in headshots and rehearsal photography, as well as producing the multimedia projections which enhance the sets and lighting. Belinda wishes everyone all the best for a wonderful season.

Shane Podolski

- Lighting Design -Shane has worked in professional theatre for the past twenty-eight years. He has been the Technical Supervisor at a range of venues including Burswood Casino, National Theatre and Mandurah PAC. He has worked on many Australian productions including Les Miserables, The Boy from Oz, and Singin’ in the Rain. Shane enjoys the challenges of this industry, and is excited about the future of the Horsham Town Hall and what it offers to the community. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Jodie Saunders

- Hair -A hairdresser at D’Coco Hair Studio, this is Jodie’s fourth HAC production. She first became involved when her daughter performed in Peter Pan Jr, and she has enjoyed helping out in the hair department ever since, including for The Wedding Singer. It has been a pleasure to work alongside her team for this show. Without these talented girls, poor Annie’s curls may not have made it to the stage on time. Jodie hopes you all enjoy this brilliant show as much as we have enjoyed making everyone’s hair look the part.

John Nevill

- Front of House -John has been involved with HAC since 1996 when his daughter, Jenna, was in The Sound of Music. He has been involved in Front of House for every production since. In 1997, he became a Committee member, and was President for four years. It has been an honour to participate, and to see the delight of the audience as they leave the theatre, marvelling in the talent this community has to offer.
