Communicating with our school - Our staff will find a time to talk to you when they can give you their full attention. Please remember that while our staff are in class or dealing with other matters, they may not be available to answer your questions immediately. In the first instance, the best person to talk with if you have a concern or problem is your child’s class teacher. Following that, if you feel your concern has not been

wearing school’s sun safe hats, clothing and sunglasses

seeking shade during peak ultra violet radiation (UVR) times during the school day

wearing SPF 30+ (or higher) broad-spectrum and water-resistant sunscreen.

Although we encourage each child to have their own personal sunscreen to use, unfortunately this isn’t always the case. We have decided to invest in a pump pack for each classroom and the students will be encouraged to apply sunscreen before they go out to play. We will also establish a sun screen station outside the Library, for students to use during break times if required. Encouraging our children to practice sun safety is a shared responsibility. Whether in the backyard or on the beach, children and young people should wear a sun safe hat and sunscreen. By practising sun safety at home, you can support the messages taught at school about sun safety. Children and young people will come to appreciate the importance of sun protection not only during their schooling, but also throughout their lives. By reducing exposure to the sun and increasing the uptake of sun safe strategies, our school can make a significant contribution to community efforts to reduce skin cancer and related skin damage. Expectations of Student Behaviour at CVPS Our school is committed to providing a safe, supportive and responsive learning environment for everyone. We teach and model the behaviours we value in our students. Promoting the learning, wellbeing and safety of all of our students is a high priority for our school. We implement teaching and learning approaches to support the development of skills needed by students to meet

our high standards for respectful, safe and engaged behaviour. Below is our statement of expectations for our school. I would appreciate it if, over the coming week, you took an opportunity to talk with your child about what it means to be part of our team here at Cudgegong Valley. I would like to take this opportunity to remind our school community that the school takes strong action in response to behaviour that is detrimental to self or others or to the achievement of high quality teaching and learning. Let's Connect Last week, we welcomed our newest learners to CVPS. Our class of 2020 arrived with ginormous cheery faces ready for their first session of Let's Connect. Miss Fitzgerald guided each of our four groups on a tour of the school. Everyone loved the new games in the COLA and there was much excitement about following the dinosaur foot prints around the school. Our first session was filled with lots of hands-on activities and finished with some wonderful singing of 'I can sing a rainbow'. At next week's session, please check the sign-on sheet to ensure there are no outstanding documents required for finalising your child's enrolment. Please note that under the new Enrolment Policy procedures, we are required to complete a 100 point Residential Address Check for students in NSW Government Schools.

Macquarie Sports Clinic

Years 5 and 6 students recently attended the Macquarie Sports 20 Year Anniversary Multi Sports Clinic at Glen Willow. Along with over 1000 children from other Central West schools, we participated in Cricket, Netball, Rugby Union, Rugby League activities, received a free gift of sports equipment, and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Liz Ellis, Brad Haddin and Steve Menzies. A wonderful time was had by all and it was a great learning experience to be coached by such accomplished sportspeople.

Wellington Caves On Friday, 80 Year 2 students travelled to Wellington Caves for a fun day of caving, exploring and discovery. We spent time in the Cathedral Cave, walking 150 steps down to see an underground well and make some noise in the thunder room. The Gaden Cave was fascinating with its stalactites and stalagmites, crystals and cave coral. In the Phosphate Mine we saw the remnants of mining 100 years ago, many fossilised bones and replicas of megafauna from long ago. We learnt about different habitats, of creatures that live in and around the caves, and got to experience total darkness when the lights went out! It was a fantastic day out.

Mudgee High School Band Visit Last Wednesday, Mudgee High School visited CVPS and joined our band for some jamming and performed for our Primary Assembly. A great time was had by all!
