At BSG, the performing arts are celebrated with an ever-increasing array of events throughout the year. Through music, drama and dance, our children are offered fantastic opportunities to express themselves in spaces outside of a classroom; opportunities so many children take and so often with amazing results.

Our KS2 Production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR is another one of these opportunities and we cannot wait for you to experience what the children have on offer for you this evening. A true classic and a feel-good show, it is a charming story with some wonderfully colourful characters. And, of course, a wonderfully colourful car!

This will be my third KS2 Production at BSG and it has been a joy to see how interest in being a part of such a wonderful aspect of the year has grown. This is our biggest cast yet with over 40 children appearing on stage throughout the show. It is also the first year we are welcoming our choir into the actual performance space, giving them the prominence their beautiful singing deserves.

Another first is tonight’s band. Yes, we have had bands before, but for Chitty we have combined our talented teachers with supremely talented children, five of whom will play for you during the show. Our backstage crew has also expanded to include more children than ever before, so please do be on the lookout for them during the transitions (there may even be a surprise stage appearance during Toot Sweets!).

Musicals theatre is a journey, and, for our cast, this journey began six months ago with a readthrough of the script. That we have gone from that to what you will see this evening is testament to the drive, good nature and genuine talent of the children we have at BSG. Off stage, there are a myriad of staggeringly dedicated adults who have worked wonders in helping our cast, dancers, choir, band, props team and costume team achieve their potential. My thanks to them is both vast and heartfelt.

I’m always a believer that at the heart of musical theatre is the desire to tell a good story and I know that we have an amazing story for you here tonight. Prepare to be entertained and, of course, please do enjoy the show!
