INTRODUCTION

This booklet takes children on a journey to know the Nabi through his miracles. The journey will also acquaint children will the idea of reforms and how the Nabi brought some everlasting changes to the human society.

It is necessary that children are given time to think and discuss. Parents can help by helping children to reflect on the changes the Nabi brought at that time when society was in darkness and how we too can benefit from these changes today. Teachers need to also ask relevant questions about changes to society and how it benefited society and changed bad attitudes to good ones.

There is an art task at the end. Teachers need to pick the best artwork done and put it forward for awards to the heads of madrasah.

LESSON 1THE ANIMAL MIRACLES

1.1 THE COMING OF THE NABIS

Do you know how many Nabis God has sent on the earth? Why do you think the Nabis were sent? Do you know who was the first Nabi and who was the final Nabi?

1.2 THE YEAR OF THE ELEPHANT

Over a thousand years ago the final Nabi of God was born in a city called Mecca. This city was famous because it had the Kaaba.

But there was a powerful king who was jealous of the Kaaba. He was like a spoilt child who destroyed anything he did not like. His name was Abraha and he brought his army to destroy the Kaaba. In front of his army was a white elephant. The white elephant was huge, almost

like a big lorry.

When the king entered Mecca with his army he saw that all the people had run away. The king sent the elephant at the front to break the Kaaba. But a miraculous thing happened. Instead of breaking the

Kaaba the elephant sat down and began to bow it’s head towards it. The king got angry and began to beat the elephant. No matter what the king did the elephant did not move from it’s place.

Then hundreds of small birds appeared like a cloud in the sky. From high up in the sky the birds released tiny stones on the army that had come to destroy the Kaaba. Soon the whole of the army was dead!

The times when this happened was the times when the final Nabi was born in Mecca. The final Nabi was Muhammad and he was born to bring mercy and justice to all people on earth.Q. Do you think animals have a soul? What is your proof?

1.3 THE SAVING OF BABIES

The people of Mecca were a very strange bunch. They worried about money and status. So if they had a baby who was born disabled then they would throw it away. They would even kill baby girls if the parents had no sons. This is because they thought that daughters without sons were a curse of the idols they worshipped.

The idols were false gods the people made of stone and feathers. The people believed that God had a house in the idols. They believed that the idols spoke to the holy men who looked after the Kaaba . It was the holy men who told the poor people to kill their daughters if they did not have any sons. It was these holy men who controlled the way the people used to think and behave.

When Nabi Muhammad was born he said to the people that the holy men were lying. He told them not to pray to the idols and not to kill their babies. But the people went to the holy men to ask them whether Nabi Muhammad was right! This shows how strange these people were.

1.4 THE SPIDER AND THE DOVE

The holy men hated the truth the Nabi brought- You see these holymen were very unholy indeed! The complained to the rich to stop the Nabi. The rich offered money and wives to the Nabi. But the Nabi said: “Even if you place the Sun in right hand and the moon in my left I will still not stop speaking the words of truth!”

Then all the holy men and the rich men had a big meeting. They argued for days and then they decided to kill the Nabi. Seventy men with swords hurried to kill the Nabi. But through a miracle the Nabi escaped. This miracle escape from the enemies is called HIJRAT.

For many days the Nabi hid in a cave. The enemies tracked his camel and came to the cave. As they came near the cave a spider came and quickly spun a thick web at the entrance of the cave. A small dove also came and built a nest near the cave. It also laid eggs in the nest. When the enemies got near the cave they thought: “If Muhammad was hiding in there then this web would be broken and the dove would have flown away!” So they left and did not enter inside the cave. The Nabi Muhammad was saved by these animals. This too was a mircale.

LESSON 2THE MIRACLES IN MEDINA

2.1 THE BEAUTIFUL CITY

The Nabi escaped to a city called Medina. When the people of Medina heard that the Nabi was coming they ran with joy to greet him. Soon the people of Medina built the first mosque in the world and called it the Quba Mosque. When the mosque was complete the Nabi gathered them and said: ‘You are all brothers and sisters of each other. You are all equal like the teeth of a comb.’

Some people came to the Nabi and said: ‘How can people be equal! Some are short, some fat, some tall and some thin. Some are rich, some poor, some black, some white, some men, some women, some clever and some dull! So how can we be equal?”

The Nabi said: “You are all equal because you are all equally special to Allah.”

This answer of the Nabi was like a miracle because it was a new and great idea and it went in to the hearts of the people.

2.2 THE MIRACLE OF THE STARS

The Nabi had chosen a man called Bilal to call the Muslims for prayers. Bilal was a poor man. But some of the proud rich men did not like him to call them for prayer - you see they too were like the spoilt king Abraha!

One night, just before the night ended and the stars disappeared, Bilal came to the mosque to call for prayer. But these proud rich men also came and pushed him aside. They said: ‘Today a rich white tall young

Arab man will call for prayer. We strong rich Arabs will have our superiority.”

The rich men then looked in to the sky and waited for the night stars to disappear and for the dawn to break. But instead of the night stars disappearing a miracle happened: More and more stars were beginning to appear. These proud men could not believe it. Their eyes almost popped out in shock! Seeing this the men got frightened. They knew it was a miracle. They ran to Bilal and asked for forgiveness.

Just then the Nabi came out of his house. He smiled at Bilal and told him to call for prayers. Now when the men looked up in the sky they saw that the stars had disappeared and it was indeed time for the dawn prayers.

The Nabi told the rich strong young Arabs: “

Did I not tell you that you are all born equally special! Now remember that if you want supremacy over others then you have to seek it by being good people.”

REMEMBER “THE MORE GOOD YOU ARE THE

MORE SUPERIOR YOU ARE. AND THE MORE PROUD YOU ARE THE MORE

LOW YOU ARE.”

2.3 THE PALM TREESIn Medina there was a wise man called Salman. But he was a slave. He came to the Nabi and said: “I want to be free.” So the Nabi hurried to the owner. The owner was a cruel and greedy man. He said: “Salman must plant 200 palm groves and make them grow in to trees. Only then will he be free!”

9

Page 11: 1madressa.weebly.com/uploads/7/9/0/1/790172/p5_topic_2... · Web viewWhen Nabi Muhammad was born he said to the people that the holy men were lying. He told them not to pray to the

Salman cried and said: “But it takes many years for the groves to become trees.” The Nabi smiled at Salman and said: “Be happy for I will help you.”

So the Nabi helped Salman. They worked all day to plant the groves. Then the Nabi turned to Salman and said: “Tomorrow you will be free.” When the Nabi said this the owner laughed.

But the next day Salman came running to the Nabi. He said: “The groves have all become trees in just one night. I am free, I am free!” The Nabi said: “Free are those who are free from sins.”

You see those who are proud of their wealth, looks and status are not free. They are actually prisoners of their pride.

LESSON 3THE MIRACLES AT BADR

3.1 A DIRTY ARMY FOR A DIRTY PEOPLE

When the leaders of Mecca heard that the people of Medina had welcomed the Nabi they burnt with hate and jealousy. So they gathered to make war against the people of Medina.

The spoilt leaders of Meccans gathered all their friends and tribes to make a big army. The holy men of Mecca told the people that the idols would reward them with many sons if they fought the Nabi. And soon they gathered over a thousand men with sharp sword. When they saw their own large army they got really excited. They made silly wows to their idols like: “We swear by the idols of the Kaaba that we will not bathe until we have killed Muhammad.”

3.2 THE NEWS COMES TO MEDINA

The followers of the Nabi Muhammad were called Companions. When they heard that an army was coming from Mecca they rushed to the Nabi and said: “This is our chance to fight them. Give us permission to go out with swords to fight them!” But the Nabi told them not to rush in to a fight. He told them never to rush to fight anybody because fighting was the most hateful thing to Allah. So the Companions were patient and did not rush out to fight.

After a few days the Nabi called his Companions and said that God was happy that they had not rushed out to fight. He said that the time had now come to get ready to fight. He said: “Fight like an army of God and not like an army of Satan!”

The Companions asked: “How does the army of God fight?”

12

Page 14: 1madressa.weebly.com/uploads/7/9/0/1/790172/p5_topic_2... · Web viewWhen Nabi Muhammad was born he said to the people that the holy men were lying. He told them not to pray to the

The Nabi said: “Do not kill women and children. Do not kill those who run away, do not kill animals, do not kill the prisoners and do not burn trees.” The Nabi said: “BE GOOD EVEN TO YOUR ENEMIES.”

3.3 THE TWO ARMIES

Soon the army of the Companions was ready and went out to fight the army of Mecca. It was at a place called Badr where the two armies met. The Meccans looked at the small Muslim army and laughed. They said: “This will be an easy fight. We will kill them all tomorrow after we have rested tonight.”

But a miracle happened! None of the men in the Meccans army could sleep. They stayed up all evening and all night. The next morning they felt very tired and many of them could not even walk properly.

But the Muslims were able to sleep. Like a miracle they slept soundly without fear and when they woke up the next day they felt stronger and confident. This was the first miracle at Badr.

Question: People who sleep early and wake early are often successful. Do you agree?

3.4 THE ANGELS COME AND THE RAIN COMES

The next morning when the Meccan saw the Muslim army it looked bigger than the night before. The Meccans cried in shock: “This is not fair! Where did they all come from!” Little did they know that angels had come to make the Muslim army look bigger. This is the second miracle at Badr.

Then it rained so that the Muslim army could walk properly on the sand and their feet would remain cool. This was the third miracle at Badr.

Soon the two armies started to fight. Two great Muslims by the name of Hamza and Ali were at the front of the Muslim army. Immediately as the battle started they rushed forward and killed the leaders of Mecca. The idols of the Meccan army which were held up in a large wooded cages also fell to the ground.

Soon a small Muslim army that fought like God’s army was able to win against a large army that fought like Satan’s army.

Allah always helps the truth win even if the truth looks weaker and falsehood looks more impressive and powerful. The way the Nabi Muhammad won over a large army is another miracle of the Nabi Muhammad.

LESSON 4MIRACLE WORDS

The words the Nabi spoke came from God and are his miracle words. They are written in the holy books called The Qur’an.

4. 1 RICH MAN’S LAWS

Before the Nabi Muhammad came to the world if a poor man did anything wrong then he would be punished in a cruel manner but if a rich man did anything wrong then he laughed because nothing would happen to him. This was because the laws were made by the rich in favour of the rich.

When the Nabi came he changed the way laws were made. This made the rich angry. It so happened that one day a rich man was caught stealing from a poor man. He was brought to the Nabi Muhammad. But the rich man laughed. He said: “You cannot punish me because I am rich and I have powerful friends.”

The Nabi Muhammad said: “In God’s laws all people are treated with JUSTICE. All those who commit a crime get punished, but the rich get punished more than the poor for stealing things.”

QUESTION: Why is it fair to punish a rich thief more than a poor thief?

4.2 THE CHILDREN

People used to kill their unwanted children. They used to say: “If you have sick children or handicapped children then it is a curse of the idols. You should kill such children to get rid of the curse.”

The Nabi Muhammad came and stopped them from killing the children. He said: “Children are not curses for

17

they are born pure. The true curse are the parents who kill their children!”

Some people argued and argued against the Nabi. They said things like: “If a child is born sick then it will need a lot of care and attention. It will make life difficult for the parents. It is better to kill such children. They are more happy to be dead than to be alive. So it would be kind to kill them!”

The Nabi Muhammad said: “Parents should be comfort for their sick children. They should give lots more love to such children. The more love they give the more will God reward them.”

In Mecca the wife of the Nabi called Khadija had followed the Nabi by looking after unwanted children. She was called the Mother of ORPHANDS. She died in Mecca and the Nabi loved her so much that whenever her name was mentioned he would cry.

When the Nabi Muhammad came to Medina it was the children who welcomed him. The children welcomed him because he was their saviour. The Nabi Muhammad said: “All children of the world MASUM because they are born PURE & SPECIAL.”

4.3 THE PLACE OF A WOMAN

Before the Nabi Muhammad had come even the women were treated badly. Some holy men said: “ Women are Satan’s Tool.” In some places of the world a woman would be burnt for not obeying her husband or her father. She was treated like an animal. She was not even allowed to read or write. Her only job was to cook, clean and make babies. Her life was full of hardship and humiliation. But then came the Nabi Muhammad and changed everything.

First he said that women must learn to read and write.

He then said that women must learn to respect themselves before they can make the men respect them.

He said that men who are unfair or cruel to women will never be close to Allah

He said that men and women are created to be helpers of each other in life

Everything the Nabi Muhammadi said was like a miracle because it all changed the way the people lived and behaved.

EXTRA READING TASKS1.CRUEL PUNISHMENTS

Before the Nabi Muhammad came the rich made the laws to punish the poor in a cruel manner. If a poor man stole something then he would be burnt in the fire or his stomach would be cut open. In places like Rome a poor man would be thrown in to a den of hungry lions.

The Nabi Muhammad stopped all these bad and cruel punishments. He stopped people from cutting up stomachs and from burning or branding people. Some people said: “What shall we do with those people who do bad?”

The Nabi taught these things:

1. No living things, human or animal, must ever be burnt.

2. Teach first, forgive second and only punish on the third time.

3. Only if they do wrong in arrogance then you should punish them.

4. Do not exceed the limits of punishment.

The Nabi’s miracle words taught us that we should never rush in to punishing others, not even a thief. The Nabi taught us that we should show mercy even when punishing others. Only when there is no other way then and only then can you punish someone.

2. THE MIRACLE BAZAAR

The Nabi Muhammad sent his miracle words to the rich people of the world saying: “If you feed the poor then nobody will need to steal food. If you pay the workers a fair wage then nobody will be poor. And if you stop ‘sudh’ then you too will stop being thieves.”

23

Many of the rich shopkeepers in Medina obeyed the Nabi. They gave food to the poor and they gave a fair wage to the workers. Then a miracle happened. Nobody stole anything! Such was the change in Medina that the shops were left open day and night without anybody stealing anything. Even gold was left on the table without anybody stealing it. Such became the city of the Nabi-the miracle city called Medina ul Nabi!

One day some thieves came to Medina. The chief thief was Zaid Al Khayl. He rode with his men in to Medina and soon their mouths fell open. They scratched their heads all day because nobody stole anything. Then they went to the mosque. There they saw the Nabi. The people around him greeded each other with words of Peace. They shared their food and they spoke with a smile. Rich and poor were friend; black and white were friends; young and old were friends. The thieves were so shocked then some of them ran off from Medina saying it was magic.

But Zaid al Khayl remained. He learnt a new way to live his life. He changed his life forever and stopped being a thief.

3. Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Before the Nabi came the women were treated like objects to look at and have fun with. Those women who were young and beautiful were popular but those who were not beautiful were ignored and insulted.

Some of the women who were beautiful became very proud of their beauty. They would show-off their beauty in parties and in dances. But if a beautiful woman did not dance or show off her beauty then the people were shocked. They said: “Why don’t you please us by showing us your beauty. You will become popular and we may even love you if we find you beautiful!”

But if a woman was not very beautiful then she was treated badly. People said to her that God was being cruel to her for not making her beautiful. This way the cruel people made her feel think that even God was against her.

The Nabi Muhammad came and changed all this. His words taught us that all women get a special beauty from God when they dress decently. He told women to treat their bodies as private and not to parade themselves. He said that if women learn to respect themselves regardless of how they look then the good men of society will also learn to respect them.

The women of Medina obeyed the Nabi and soon they stopped being so ‘cooked up’ about their looks. They wore decent clothes and stopped showing off their bodies. Their minds and hearts became free from all the hang-ups they had about their looks. The men too learnt to respect women and not judge them for their looks. This way the men and women learnt to be each other’s true friends and well-wishers. This too was yet another miracle of the teachings that came from the words of the Nabi Muhammad.
