Well it’s hard to believe but we are already into March after finishing one of the wettest months I’ve

ever seen. We are real close to getting into the ride schedule with the 1st official chapter ride a month away and a little over a month away for TECH day hosted by Chris and Car Works of Knox-ville. Hopefully everyone has been visiting the Chapter B website and checking out the ride calendar

and penciling in the dates as there are a lot of rides, dinner rides and events this year. One of the events this year is the June 1st chapter cookout, the cookout committee met a couple of times and we were able to finalize the flyer for the cook out and send it out to the other Chapters, hopefully

we’ll have a good turnout, but we will also need the support of our Chapter to help run everything. I would like to hear from anyone that may have games that we can set up during the event, would be nice if we could get about four cornhole games and a couple of the Hillbilly golf or ladder golf

games set up and maybe a checker board or two. As always I look forward to seeing everyone at our monthly gathering

With March here and April right around the corner, the annual ritual of Spring expiring apartment leases triggers an increased num-ber of do-it-yourself movers out on the streets and interstate highways. Some of these folks actually rent enclosed van type trucks which do a good job to go from point A to point B, however, many people on a tighter budget of-ten use a pickup truck or an open trailer to haul their treasures. Often, loose items are simply thrown on board and trusted to stay in place on their own. Sometimes a weak attempt to tie things down is expected to do the trick. At speed or with a strong gust of wind, or just hitting a bump in the road, these items often break loose and topple onto the highway, creating a serious hazard to motorcyclists. Though you might be curious of what's be-ing hauled, steer clear of loosely loaded vehi-cles and also consider how other drivers will react should something get launched onto the roadway. Anybody ever see a mattress lying out on the road? Mattresses and unsecured ladders are the two most common items lost on the road.

Paying attention to traffic ahead and not fol-lowing too closely will allow you to see if other cars or trucks are attempting to drive around some type of road debris. Running over or into lost treasures on the road can spell disaster for a motorcycle. Staying aware of your sur-roundings will give you a better chance of ar-riving safely at your destination. Until next time, ride safer

For Sale

Time to Downsize

New 2018 GL1800 Tour, 6 speed manual shift transmission. heated seat, heated grips, ABS brakes. Honda line CB radio installed before it ever rolled out of the dealership, A new J & M accessory to adapt the Bluetooth communication was in-stalled and allows you to use the new Bluetooth wireless headsets OR your old cord-ed headsets as on previous models. New bike, I had ridden 3 times for total of 160 miles before I finally decided to sell the new Goldwing I WON as the Grand Prize at last years Wing Ding. I own a very nice 2008 pearl white GL1800 and had recently purchased a 2016 GL1800 and had it converted to a Trike at CSC in 2017. Kind of like the Trike a little better as I’m not getting any younger and always have a two wheeler to ride should I decide to pull out old faithful. Kelly Bluebook and NADA pricing for retail are very close at $24,371 and $23,570 with CB radio, of course those prices are for a used bike with average mileage. I am listing this new 2018 with 160 miles on it for $22,500 Contact: Tom Peck 423-907-9712 at Home or 423-494-9818 on my cell phone, or email me at: [email protected] New 2018 Goldwing like this one listed for $28,500, 2019 models have no changes also listed at $28,500

Each year our couples of the year have some expenses as they travel around representing our Chapter and our Association. Several years ago some came up with a great idea to help out our District couples with some of the expenses they have. Suggestions were for each Chapter to put together a basket of Goodies that would be put on display and raffle tickets would be sold during our annual Spring Fling convention. We will be asking our membership to once again put their thinking caps on and come up with some sort of idea for Chapter B’s Basket. Something to do with the Convention Theme “Lets Go Hawaiian” we can dis-cuss what items we need and see if our members would like to contribute to the basket or just make a dona-tion so our committee can go out and buy a few things for the basket. Below are a few baskets from other conventions so you can see some examples.

Batteries:

Most people take for granted of how

important it is to the operation of your motorcycle or automobile But I plays a vital part in starting, keeping your bike running and powering accessory’s on your motorcycle or automobile .Honda installs a standard battery which is a liquid filled acid battery which is a standard battery

and has been used for years in the motor-cycle and automotive industry. The draw-back to this type of battery is it requires continuous attention and charging.

Changes in the industry have brought new technology in the way of new type batteries. Some of the new battery types

these are called AGM and Gel batteries but of the two AGM (absorbed glass mat) is a special design glass mat designed to wick the battery electrolyte between the battery plates. ... AGM Batteries outsell

Gel Cell by at least a 100 to 1. AGM is preferred when a high burst of amps may

be required. Now the new comer to the motorcycle and automotive industry is the lithium-ion battery or Li-ion battery is a

type of rechargeable battery in which lith-ium ions move from the negative elec-trode to the positive electrode during dis-charge and back when charging. Wikipe-dia This battery is very light weight and

almost twice as powerful but the cost is about 100% more than a AGM.

Battery Tenders:

Tenders are used to maintain the batteries charge when not in use giving the battery a longer life, I recommend a 12v 750ma tender which can be purchased at most stores or parts stores for 35.00 or less the

one I use is made by Dellran Battery Ten-der Jr part #021-0123 it take aprox.10 min to install and has detailed instructions in-cluded.

Chapter B folks showed up in force for Chapter M’s monthly meeting Feb 12th not only to attend the Team Riding Seminar Class being put on by Brian Richards but also to capture the East Tennessee trav-eling Plaque. 18 chapter B members attended the Seminar and they drew Sam Queener’s ticket out to capture the plaque. Good turn out for the Seminar and we all learned a few pointers about Team riding, hopefully these tips will make our rides safer and more enjoyable during the upcoming riding season. Thanks to Brian for putting on the Seminar and Thanks to all the Chapter B membership for attending this event.

LifeStyle Entertainment Card

Our next night out will be at Dickey’s BBQ. Meet there Friday March 1st at 6:30 pm and we will try our 3nd place out for 2019. Look over your pocket saver and suggest our next night out!

Great turnout for our LifeStyle night out at Garibaldi’s. Good food and the service was good at least until it came time to pay the bill. Seems like this was the first time the restaurant had to deal with the discounts our lifestyle cards presented. After all was said and done a few errors occurred so we all ask to double check our credit card state-ments to assure no mistakes were made . The young lady who helped us was very nice and assured us if there were any mis-charged that she would certainly make the corrections. Good place to Eat!!!!
