1.1 Introduction to the FOGHET water fireplace

2

The ”FOGHET” with curved or straight front is a water heating machine type approved and tested according to European standards EN13229, EN14785, EN303/5 and German standards DIN18894, DIN18891, DIN18892 burning firewood or firewood and pellets (ALTERNATIVE AND RENEWABLE ENERGIES).

Designed to meet today’s market requirements of: energysaving, comfort and safeguarding the environment, it is the resultofJolly-Mec’s30years’experience.

Foghetisamonoblocconsistingofadouble-wallheatexchangerinspecialsteelwhoseparticularconstructionallowsmaximumexploitationofthecombustionheat,obtaininghighefficiencies of up to 92.74%, making it one of the best in the category for efficiency and emissions.

TheFoghetwithcurvedfrontcanbecladasafireplaceorasastove(“FOGO”model);withstraightfrontasafireplaceorstove(“FOGHEA”model).

The Foghet with curved front has an electronic controller (availableintwoversions, standardorsimplified)thatmanagesthe fireplace when operating on wood or pellets. In bothversions it has a programmable thermostat for automatic lighting and shutdown. With the new-generation simplifiedelectronic controller version, when programmed, if the wood finishes and heating is required the boiler temperature probemakes the fireplace automatically switch from wood to pelletmode with automatic igniting of the pellets, maintaining the set temperature. The simplified controllerwarnswhen the pelletsare finished with a beep and in addition makes it possibleto manage an auxiliary pellet hopper or boiler connected inparallel, ahotwaterstoragecistern(thermoboiler)orathermalcell and the circulating pump of a central heating system. With thesimplifiedcontrolleritisalsopossibletorunacheck-uponthevariouscomponentsevenwiththefireplaceout.

The Foghet with straight front is supplied with a simplifiedcontroller only.

Whenusedwithwood, it functionsasanormal fireplace, butoffers the advantages of controlled combustion thanks to the Jolly-MecpatentedCaldoControl,whichoptimisescombustionaccording to the water temperature.

Wood-burning Foghet, with the specific pellet burner JOLLYME-07-Ffitted,becomesa ”continuousfire”heatingmachine, exactly like a boiler. The pellet hopper has a capacity ofapproximately46kg,however, toobtaina longerburn time itcan be coupled to a second and larger hopper, even located in another room.

Operation can be quickly switched fromwood to pelletmodeorviceversa:byshiftingthegrillepositionedovertheburnpotand selecting the type of feed. In pellet mode, heating power is managed by means of the electronic controller provided: from9,3KWonminimumupto23.2KWonmaximum.The fireplace can be purchased in thewood version and theburner can be fitted at a later stage, since the fireplace isalready arranged for it.

Ithasalargeceramicglassdoorandforthewood-pelletversionwith curved front a removable second inner door with glass is available, for those who want it to work as a boiler, which simplifiescleaning, keepingtheglassoftheouterdooralwaysclean, while reducing the temperature of the front. To use it as afireplacetheseconddoorremoveseasilyandcanbeplacedinthespecialholder(optional)

The water-heating Foghet can also autonomously heat anentirebuildingwithafloorareaofupto170m2(withradiators,underfloorheating,storagecistern,etc.)andproducedomestichot water. It is supplied as standard with a plumbing kit in a sealed system, already fitted and tested, with or withoutdomestic hot water production and a cooler that monitors and governs the temperature of the water in the event of a power failure.Onrequest,non-standard,Foghetcanalsobesuppliedwithaplumbingkit foropen-ventedoperation,withorwithoutdomestic hot water production.

combustion starts; duration approx. 4minutes (the displayshowsIGNIT.1)

4. COMBUSTION STABILISATION: the flame graduallyspreads to the pellets in the burn pot; duration approx.10minutes(thedisplayshowsSTAB.1)

5. SWITCH TO OPERATION AT PREVIOUSLY SET POWER LEVEL: thefireplacehascompleted the lightingstageandautomatically goes to the power level set before the last shutdown, which is shown on the display (for example,PWR>MEDIUM).

Ifthefirstlightingstageattemptfailspleasefollowinstructionsin chap. “problem solving”.

Approximately every 30 minutes an automatic cleaning cycle of 2 minutes is carried out, with pellet feed at minimum and combustion air at maximum (the display shows the message POT. 3 and the corresponding LED lights up).

The burner is controlled in accordance with the boiler water temperature sensor. When the water in the boiler reaches the preset temperature, the burner switches to economy mode (PWR>econ) and restarts when the boiler water temperaturefalls below the preset value.

The circulating pump starts when the water in the boiler reaches the preset temperature and stops when the boiler temperature falls below the preset value or when the room thermostat trips.

If, after a couple hours’ operation, the glass starts to go black, or the pellets fall out or the fireplace shuts down, thismeansthat the pellets used are not of the recommended type (forpellet characteristics, see chap. 1.17)orthecombustionair isinsufficient(checkthatthecombustionfanisnotdirty). Therefore a few operations are necessary to eliminate the problem(seepar. 1.7.10).

Step 1: manually load a small quantity of pellets using thecommand on the electronic controller (see Fig. 1). Do notexceedtherecommendedquantityandmakesuretheburnpotis secured by forcing it with the special screw.

Step 2: carry out lighting. At the end of automatic loading, intheelectricalelementlightingstage, thequantityofpelletsmustneverexceed the level indicated (seeFig. 2) inorder toavoidviolent ignition.

Step 3:adjust thequantityofpelletsaccording to their typeandsizeusingthefeedcontrol(seeFig. 3) and respecting the weights given in the technical data; set the electronic controller to medium power; close the damper and the Caldo Control; set the combustion airandthepelletsto0%.TheflameshouldbeasinFig. 4. While burning, the pellets must always remain below the upper holes of theburnpotandtheflamemustbeclear.

Step 4:whenunburned fuel remains in theburnpot, use thepointed end of the poker to break up the encrustations and then the flat part to remove it and clean the combustion air holes(seeFig. 5).

Step 5: in case of incorrect combustion or lighting problems, clean the burn pot, following the procedure in the quickreference notice.

Step 6: at least once per week or about every 60 hoursof operation, remove the upper baffle and clean it. The combustion air percentage (%) must not be set below -5% to avoid possible spontaneous combustion, dirtying the boiler excessively and blackening the glass(seeFig. 6).

1.17 Pellet quality

IT is important to select pellets that are free of dirt and impurities. The Pellet Producers’ Association has established standards for producers of wood pellets. Ask your dealer for the best type of pellets.

FIREPLACE performance depends very much on the type and quality of the wood pellets used. The efficiency and heating capacity of the fireplace will vary according to the quality of the wood pellets used.

Storepelletsatadistanceofatleast1m.fromthefireplace.

Do not use pellets that are very hard and of different sizes:themechanicalpartsaresizedandtestedforusewithpelletshaving the above characteristics.

JOLLY-MECCAMINETTIS.p.A.recommendsusingthesametype of pellets as those used to test the fireplace, sincecombustion parameters vary from pellets to pellets.

JOLLY-MEC CAMINETTI S.p.A. declines any liability formalfunctioning, faults or problems due to the use of non-recommended pellets.

The same applies to the section from the roof to the chimney cap.For the connection between the fireplace and flue, or in thepresence of branches or bends, or for easier, quick and safeinstallation, it is advisable to use double-wall stainless steelpipeswithoutinsulationinsidehoods.Non-combustiblematerialsresistant to the fumes and their possible condensate must be used for installing the fume ducts. The use of asbestos cement pipes to connect appliances to the flueisprohibited. The fume ducts must not cross rooms in which the installation of combustion appliances is prohibited. The fume ducts must be installed in such a way as to ensure fume tightness when the fireplace is in negativepressureoperating conditionsandto avoid the formation of condensate and its conveyance to the unit.Horizontal sections should be avoided asmuch as possible. For exhaust pipes which must reach ceiling or wall outletsthat arenot coaxialwith respect to the fireplace fumeoutlet, changes of direction must be made using open elbows not exceeding45°(seeFig. 1).Donotuseelementsslopingintheotherdirection.Thefluemustbe designed allow removal of soot and brush cleaning.
