“Be inspired... get active”

James Ellis

Hello, welcome to the 2013-14 year of sport at Warwick University. This is a guide to the organisation of Warwick Sport. We provide an excellent, and expanding sports offer that looks to engage the campus and wider community in active and healthy lifestyles.

Sport is a big part of life on Warwick’s campus, with new facilities and programmes helping to support the student and staff experience. 2012-13 was an exciting year, with over £1 million invested in the Lifestyle Gym. Further to this, we have launched two new programmes ‘Warwick Lifestyle’ and ‘Warwick Active’ that provide exciting new ways for the community to get moving.

Whether you are staff, postgraduate or undergraduate, we hope that you find this guide useful to your interests. The Warwick Sport Team and I look forward to making this a fantastic year with you.

JamesZoe Buckland

Hi everyone, I'm Zoe, your Sports Officer this year! I was voted in by you - the most important people within Warwick Sport - and I am super excited about representing your views because I want to make sure that Warwick Sport caters for each and every one of you in the best way it can. We are here to

enable you guys to get involved in sport in the way you want to - be it at a high competitive level, a kick about with your flatmates on a sunny day or fitness sessions that suit you.

I really enjoyed being a club President and on Sports Committee last year and I'm so excited to be even more involved in sport at Warwick this year because I'm really passionate about getting everyone participating in sport. Not only is it the most fun thing, but you can meet so many new people and gain so many new skills that recruiters for graduate employers absolutely love, and it's really good for your health - so why wouldn't you want to get involved!?

Having such a diverse range of sports on offer here at Warwick makes it hard to decide what to do, but I can't encourage you all enough to have a go - from Archery to Zumba, there's definitely something for everyone!

My role is centred around you, so please do email me on [email protected], or come see me in my office in the SUHQ or in the Sports Centre with any suggestions or ideas you have - I'm no miracle maker, but I'll always try my best to deliver what you guys want.

Happy sporting!

Zoe x

Warwick Active Hall Sport

Freshers, this is calling all of you guys to join your hall sports teams. A brand new concept this year, our hall sports competitions offer a different sport each week for halls to compete against each other for the 2013-14 hall cup!

Sessions occur Friday evenings with Sunday afternoons for Hall Sports Football Leagues. This competition is a great way to make friends as well as meet people from different halls. You get a basic introduction to the sport followed by matches. Make friends and have fun with your halls whilst trying new sports!

Hall sport creates opportunities to play in football, basketball, ultimate frisbee and dodgeball amongst others; so there really is something in it for everyone. The Warwick Active Hall Sport competition also offers opportunities for people to be involved in the organisation of events. Warwick Sport recruit activators for these events, giving freshers the chance to boost their employability skills and get an early win on their CVs.

Hall Sport Reps

Fancy representing your hall in sport, helping to organise the hall sport leagues as well as help shape the future direction of Warwick Sport? Look out for elections held by Warwick SU in the first few weeks of term for the opportunity to run for this position!

Warwick Sport ClubsWarwick Sport and Warwick SU jointly run the sports club programme. Whether you are a keen sports person playing at an elite level, someone looking to take up a new hobby or continue with an existing one, we have the opportunities for you. With 71 sports clubs you can choose anything from football to riding, dodgeball to gliding!

BUCS Sport

If you prefer a more competitive arena, then you can join one of the fifty plus teams that play in Wednesday afternoon fixtures that are organised by British University College Sport (BUCS). Don your Warwick kit and represent the university! Many sports clubs have 1-4 teams and it is a good idea to go to trials and see if you can make one of the teams. You have nothing to lose! Otherwise, make sure you play in the Warwick Active E&Y Leagues where clubs look for talent throughout the year.
