BCM Announces New Staff Changes

We are excited to announce the following new staff changes:

Michelle Ramirez, Director of Financial Education

Michelle has been appointed as the new Director of

Financial Education, following the departure of the

former program director, Mary Alvarez, on April

12th. Michelle has been a member of the BCM

family in a case management and program

management capacity for more than eleven (11)

years and will now be responsible for overseeing

The 70/30 Project program.

Najah Douglass, Director of Emergency Assistance

After serving as BCM’s Assistant Director of

Emergency Assistance for over a year and a half,

Najah has been promoted to the Director of

Emergency Assistance effective May 1st. Najah

started at BCM as an intern in May 2013 and joined

the BCM staff as the Emergency Assistance

Coordinator in July 2013. Najah has fully embraced

this growth opportunity and is excited about her new

role and responsibilities at BCM.

LaRae Penney, Emergency Assistance Coordinator

LaRae joins the BCM staff as the new Emergency

Assistance Coordinator. LaRae came to BCM

from Georgia State University as a Social Work

intern last September. During her internship,

LaRae assisted the Emergency Assistance staff

with financial appointments and providing case

management. LaRae will officially come onboard

as a staff member, after graduating with her BSW,

on May 15th.

BCM and Buckhead THRIFTique

will be closed on Saturday, May

27th and Monday, May 22nd in

observance of Memorial Day.

Needed! As you are working with

clients throughout your shift, please

keep in mind that BCM is looking for

compelling client stories to share with

our donors and partners. If you have

a client story to share, please see

Najah or Tiffany.

Intake Volunteers: Recording Food

Bags Correctly! When you are

entering the number of food bags on

the client service form, please

remember to include the bag(s) for

meat and pastries, if they are not

included with the other food items.

Food Pantry Volunteers: Recycling

Expired Items. We are now donating

all expired food items to the

FreeFood Commune. Effective

immediately, please put expired food

items in the red plastic bin located in

the pantry hallway across from the

bathrooms.

Summer Internships Available

BCM is seeking student interns, at least 19 years of age or

older, to volunteer in our office during the summer. The

intern would work closely with our Director of Emergency

Assistance and assist with providing client and support

services. Duties would include: client intake, helpline, data

entry and other administrative tasks.

The appropriate candidate will be a compassionate,

responsible, problem solver

who has a heart for

ministering to people in

need and is eager to learn.

Training is provided.

Farwell Letter from

Mary Alvarez

BCM Family,

It is hard to believe that more

than five years have passed

since I started here at

BCM. I have had such a

wonderful time here and

have truly loved working

with such an incredible group

of staff, clients and, of

course, volunteers!

I have been so thankful to work with such a talented,

dedicated, and fun group of volunteers and it has been such

a blessing to get to know all of you. While I am looking

forward to going back to graduate school and taking some

time to spend with my little one, it is certainly bittersweet

to leave BCM. BCM will always hold a special place in my

heart and I will certainly keep in touch!

It’s hard to believe that BCM’s

Emergency Assistance Intern, Faith

Willis, completed her last day at

BCM on Friday, April 28th. Before

departing, Faith wanted to share the

following farewell message:

Staff and Volunteers of BCM,

Thank you so much for your time, wisdom and support

that you gave to me throughout my time here. Through my

internship at BCM, I have been able to learn so much from

each and every one of you and will actually miss being

called Penny :-). After graduation, I plan on continuing

my education by starting graduate school in the Fall.

Everyone's constant encouragement and prayers have

been so helpful and uplifting. I promise not to be a

stranger!

Volunteer Handyman

Responsibilities:

Assist with interior and exterior small repair projects

that include: carpentry, lightbulb replacement,

painting, etc.

Shifts: Flexible

Grounds Keeping & Landscaping

Responsibilities:

Trim and prune bushes and trees at the entrance of

the building

Pressure wash BCM signage and grounds

Shifts: Flexible

Buckhead THRIFTique Volunteer

Responsibilities:

Provide excellent customer service and treat all

customers with dignity and respect

Assist customers in selecting merchandise

Organize the sales floor; Sort and hang incoming

donations

Shifts: Tuesday 10am to 1pm
