ROTARY

SERVING

HUMANITY

By John Shillabeer

President Debbie conducted the

meeting for our final club meeting of

the calendar year.

Guests

Joyce Smith introduced her partner

Ron Willis (both brown as berries and

recently returned from down under)

and Dave Hammond introduced

member-to-be Laurie Beinert.

Induction:

Past president Lila Tanner inducted

Laurie Beinert into the club. Laurie is

Development Officer for the Nanaimo

Foundation.

Announcements:

John Heisterman said

preparations for the Bay-

view School lunch were in

good shape and reminded members to arrive

about 10:00 am on December 21.

Joan Ryan sold tickets for the Club Christ-

mas dinner on 15 December.

Janeane Coutu announced that shaving

Ian Williams beard last week raised $2,400.

(Wow!).

Dave Hammond gave an update on the

Centennial project. The City has been in-

formed that it will not receive a federal grant,

so available funding is now known and de-

tailed planning can get underway. We can ex-

pect club action in January.

Happy and Sad Bucks

Several members were happy to thank club volunteers for

turning out to organise the Bayview lunch, plant shrubs at

Eden Gardens, host a fireside chat for new members, and

for special fund raising. Several also were looking forward

to being together with family members for Christmas.

Card Draw:

Charles Ramos won the table stakes. Ron Willis won the

card draw but did not pick the ace of spades.

Special Thanks

President Debbie awarded 100 Paul Harris points each to

Ian Williams, Bruce Gordon and Egon Holzwarth for

their outstanding support through her first half of the Rotary

year.

Brainstorming Session

After completing the formalities of the AGM, President

Debbie organised a brief brainstorming session with the

objective of encouraging ideas for worthy local projects

eligible for Rotary Community Grants. Results were

emailed to members and there will be follow-up in January.
