KEMPER COUNTY:Work is slowing down as the project is coming to close. Most of the craftworkers have left the site and we presently have a small team of administrative staff tying up loose ends. We expect to be finished sometime in mid-October. We are aggressively pursuing future work opportunities within the power company site and with other project owners.

Current Work

BARRY STEAM PLANT:CO2 Capture Maintenance – APC / SCS R&EA - Continued maintenance on the CO2 Capture Plant

Coal Upgrade Project – AEC / MHI - Completed all construction activities in July. Plant Start-up scheduled to commence in March 2015.

HES Demo Project – SCS R&EA - We are underway on the construction of a High Efficiency System (HES) for SCS R&EA & MHI. This demonstration project incorporates a waste heat recovery process capable of extracting waste heat and making that heat available for use in maximizing efficiency levels on other parts of the power plant. McAbee is performing all field construction scope & fabrication scope including that of a specialized Gas Heater casing & finned tube bundles. Construction to be complete mid-October and proceed into commissioning.

MATS Project – APC - McAbee was awarded the front end T&M Construction Activities for the upcoming MATS Project to be installed at Plant Barry. This work scope includes misc. underground relocations, precipitator hopper modifications, structural & piping modifications & the installation of auger cast piles & concrete foundations.

PLANT GASTON:Currently working an outage to replace trestles at Plant Gaston. Work is going well and we are ahead of schedule on this project. We are scheduled to finish October 31, 2014.

PLANT GORGAS:Ash Handling Electrical Bldg Installation – We started the civil and foundation work in August. Concrete and steel erection will take place in Sept/Oct. This project is a turnkey job to install a new electrical building for the Ash Handling System at Alabama Power’s Plant Gorgas.

NUCOR STEEL:We had a Fall outage at Nucor Steel from September 28 - October 4. There were about 35 workers there. This job is now complete.

GREENE COUNTY:The Super-heater Fall Outage started October 4 and will run through November 30. There are approximately 120 workers on both day and night shifts.

FABRICATION:We recently shipped a module to Kerry Flavours and Ingredients, Lakeland, FL. The heart of the module is a high-vacuum batch still that can make difficult separations of various high value components and essences used in flavorings and fragrances from citrus oils and other fruit products. The module was a team effort, designed by ChemPro and built by McAbee. It contained 3 vessels (a still pot and two receivers) and one distillation column, all of which our Tank shop fabricated, along with 2 pumps, and 3 heat exchangers. All non-rotating equipment had an 11 gauge, stainless steel, seal-welded jacket over the insulation which McAbee also fabricated and installed. Equipment, piping, instrumentation, and electrical were installed into the structural frame, to complete the module at it’s river yard.

Community ImpactCOMMUNITY:Summer is the time when most organizations are winding down from the previous year, and gearing up for the next campaign. McAbee’s community organization representatives were busy attending year-end meetings and campaign kickoffs. McAbee is excited, and ready, to partner with Junior Achievement, United Way, American Heart Association, and Adopt-a-School. There have been so many wonderful ideas proposed and we can’t wait to put them into action!

LEAH ANN TAKES ALS CHALLENGE:The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken the nation by storm. It seems like everyone has been challenged and the employees of McAbee Construction were not spared. Vice President Leah Ann McAbee Sexton recently accepted the challenge. She invited fellow co-workers to join in the fun and watch one hot Friday afternoon, just before 5:00. It was a great way to participate in a great cause, and encourage others to become involved as well. A donation was made in honor of Mrs. Sexton’s Close friend.

CLASSROOMS: With the school year back in session, McAbee is ready to start helping out with Junior Achievement and Adopt-a-School. We have several employees who volunteer time in the classrooms of local schools to teach students about good business and financial practices.

OAKDALE PLAYGROUND: McAbee is also partnered with Oakdale Primary School. It has been working with them over the summer to design and build a new playground area as well as create a schedule full of fun activities for fundraising and support throughout the school year. The first event will be the Oakdale Fall Festival October 24, 2014.

GOLF TOURNAMENT: On September 11, McAbee employees participated in the Nucor Steel Golf Tournament, benefiting Adopt- A- School partners. Josh Fryer, Michael Shirk, Mike Shoultz, and Scott Nichols participated in the event. McAbee is a sustainer in the Adopt-A-School program and sponsored one of the holes. Golf tournaments are always a fun way to raise money and allow businesses to network, relax, and have fun while benefiting a great program.

CINDI JOHNSON STAMPSCindi began at McAbee Construction in 1984-- as a part time employee helping with billing for the construction department. She then moved to fabrication, where she helped with typing bid letters, filing paperwork, and answering phones. She also did the accounts payable for the fabrication side. Soon, accounts payable developed into a much larger department and moved to the front office. The fabrication and construction accounts are now all processed through the same department where Cindi still works and is happy to stay until retirement. Cindi is originally from Tuscaloosa and now resides in Ralph, Alabama with her husband, Dana, and two Australian Shepherd puppies, Maddie and Issie. Cindi loves to ride and show horses, a hobby she has participated in since she was 5 years old. She and Dana have 8 horses on their farm and are still active in competitions and shows. Cindi often jokes: when we first met, Dana had three Harleys, and I had three Tennessee Walking horses. Now he has no Harleys and we have eight horses. It’s so wonderful to have someone in your life that loves living the way you do. Cindi credits her success and happiness to the wonderful people at McAbee who have made her the person she is today. Special thanks to Mrs. Ruth McAbee, Leroy McAbee, Harold McAbee, Wendell McAbee, Gary Nichols, Cynthia Duncan, Ray Allen and Justin Strickland. McAbee Construction congratulates and thanks Cindi for her 30-years of dedication and hard work.
