• When Dr. Lee asked me if I wanted to try  Juvederm for my lips I thought he was crazy! My main concern was that I would look overdone and leave the office with the “duck look”. Another concern was of course the pain. But after a few weeks the idea grew on me, especially after seeing so many great results with our patients. I decided to go for it. On the day of injection we had a film crew ( Vince Neal’s team) in to shoot footage for our Social Media. They decided it would be a great idea to film my injection! The pressure was on. I didn’t want to be filmed crying like a baby during the injections. At Look Younger MD. we always use numbing cream before injections. For lips we leave it on for about 20 minutes.

• Dr. Lee does not use a regular sharp needle for injections. He uses the Air-Tite MicroCannula which is a blunt tip needle, this type of needle does not tear the tissue the way a traditional needle does. Dr. Lee began by using a pilot needle to create a site for the Air-Tite MicroCannula to be inserted. He started with my top lip.

When we used a regular needle there would be up to 12 injection sites (or even more) depending on the patient This caused a lot of swelling during the injection making it harder to tell if the lip was enlarged due to swelling or the filler. It made it harder to get a smooth, even result. Immediately after injection I was a little swollen, but there was no bruising. I applied ice for about 15 minutes. I had trouble drinking, but that was more due to the fact that my lips were still numb! Dr. Lee used 1 syringe of Juvederm for my treatment. Typically he uses 1 or 2 syringes for lips depending on how much natural volume has been lost and of course the results the patient wants to achieve.

• There was some pain with the pilot needle but not much. Getting a lip wax hurts more. Then Dr. Lee inserted the MicroCannula and began injecting the Juvederm. This was not at all painful. Juvederm contains Lidocaine which is an added benefit for pain management. He then repeated the process on the other side of the top lip and on my bottom lip for a total of 4 injection sites.
