Alex Tuch opened the scoring inthe first period, but Dallas tied the game with a goal of its own. Gerard Gallant was named the first head coach in Vegas Golden Knights history on April 13, 2017. He is in his seventh season as an NHLhead coach after spending parts of six seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets (2003-07) and Florida Panthers (2014-16) and has compiled acareer record of 171-149-4-32. In his second year with the Panthers, the team finished with a franchise-best 103 points and a record of 47-26-9, capturing their second-ever division title and making their fifth appearance in the NHL playoffs. For his efforts, Gallant was named a finalistfor the Jack Adams Award. Gallant also spent three seasons (2009-12) as the head coach of the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec MajorJunior Hockey League (QMJHL) and compiled a 159-34-9 record. He led the Sea Dogs to three first-place finishes, three league finalappearances, two QMJHL championships (2011 & 2012) & one Memorial Cup (2011). Gallant was also named the QMJHL and CanadianHockey League Coach of the Year twice (2010 & 2011).

 ON THE ROAD AGAINThe Hurricanes will play their fifth game of a season-long six-game road trip on Tuesday against the Golden Knights. The 11-day trip(12/5-12/15) will span a total 7,500 miles. Following Tuesday’s game, Carolina will head back East to face the Buffalo Sabres on Fridaybefore returning to Raleigh.
