What is Twitter? Created by Jack Dorsey in 2006 Social networking and micro
blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as “tweets”
Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on author's profile page and delivered to subscribers known as followers
Website has more than 100 million users worldwide
Twitter Is free Based in San Francisco Designed to work on
cell phones and computers
Messages can be sent as a single email or a Short Message Service (SMS) alert
Twitter Is secure (relatively) Senders can restrict
delivery to friends or allow open access
Users can follow lists of authors instead of following individual authors
All users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website or cell phones
Twitter Useful for close-knit groups Quickly communicate
group-related items to friends
Entries can be private, so only friends you've authorized can see them
Items can also be made public, which means anyone who knows your Twitter ID can read
Link cell phone and IM account Twitter network works even if
not at computer or browsing Web
Can connect mobile phone and instant messenger account Go to Settings > Phone and
IM Note that messages you
view on phone or IM program also are readable on personal Twitter Web page
Twitter Option to make Twitter send message every time a
user you follow posts a message Can be fun, but may drive you crazy
If don't want to be barraged but still want friends to reach you, select "Direct Message" When other users send a message to you and you
alone, will be alerted on phone or IM account. Otherwise, won't get alert.
