The Parish Pastoral Council is a representative body of the faithful whose focus is on the whole SS Peter & Paul community. The council is an exploratory and advisory group made up of nine members that serve a three-year term and a youth representative serving a one year term. The responsibility of the council is to aid the pastor in coordinating, encouraging, and promoting the activities of the parish - to serve all members of the parish in the best way possible. The council also has the responsibility of assisting the pastor in developing the most effective means of carrying out guidelines and directives given by the bishop.

Our Pastoral Council is a valuable source to the pastor of information on parish, civic, legal and pastoral realities. A diverse Council is able to provide the pastor with insights vital for decision making, among them:

Knowledge of the talents, skills and abilities of parish members Knowledge of parish history and customs Knowledge of the multiple populations in the community Knowledge of the wider civic community's resources, legal and

political considerations

There are current openings on the Council; think about joining us.

This is our opportunity to take care of the faithful and dedicated priests who have spent their lives caring for our spiritual needs within our Diocese. Please consider making a donation online either on our website www.rocklincatholic.org/priests-retirement-fund, or directly at www.scd.org/dpr2020. Thank you for your generosity!

Fire Assistance Fund 2020—In light of the fires burning in counties throughout the Diocese, Bishop Jaime Soto has asked the faithful of the Diocese to pray for all those affected, especially the residents who have been displaced, lost their residences or evacuated. Ask for God’s protection upon the firefighters and emergency personnel. Pray for those who have died and all those suffering loss during this catastrophic time.

Parishioners wising to donate money to assist those in need online at www.scd.org/catholic-foundation/fire-assistance-fund-2020. Thank you for your generosity!

Second Collection—NEXT weekend, Sept. 19/20 Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Collection which helps Christians in the Holy Land. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees. Typically, this collection is taken on Good Friday, but with the shut down due to the pandemic, it was postponed until this time. Please consider making a donation online either on our website www.rocklincatholic.org/good-friday-collection-for-the-holy-land, or directly at www.myfranciscan.org/good-Friday.

Thank you for your generosity!

Catholics Returning Home Series Begins Sept. 14th—Have you recently returned to the Church? Even if you’ve never left, do you have questions about the Mass, Catholic teaching, or anything in regard to the Catholic Church? This casual class is comprised of 5 sessions and if needed, will

be provided online. Come with your questions and concerns and they will be answered! We typically offer the class from 6:30-8:00 PM but if daytime hours work better for the participants, this can be adjusted. To register for the class, visit www.rocklincatholic.org/catholics-returning-home. Facilitated by Darcy Wharton.

Book Club Selection—We've selected a book that came highly recommended. In The Misunderstood Jew, scholar Amy-Jill Levine helps Christians and Jews understand the "Jewishness" of Jesus so that their appreciation of him deepens and a greater interfaith dialogue can take place. Levine's humor and informed truth-telling provokes honest conversation and debate about how Christians and Jews should understand Jesus, the New Testament, and each other. You can purchase it yourself on Amazon.com. If you are unable to purchase it online, please contact Darcy at [email protected] and we will arrange for contactless pickup.($14). Our discussion will now take place on Oct. 6th at 6:00 PM. We are hoping to meet in person, but if not, we will have an online discussion.
