Cybercrime is hitting dioceses nationwide. If/when you receive an email that shows the parish’s pastor or a parish priest as the sender requesting you to purchase a gift card, rest assured it is a scam. Parishioners can and should contact the parish to verify the legitimacy of any suspicious request received through email. All cybercrime should be reported to the FBI at https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx. It is up to the victim of cyber-crimes to file complaints.

Happy Summer, Cursillistas!
We hope you have enjoyed the Summer as much as we have!
First, please save the date on your calendar the Summer Grand Ultreya Picnic on
Sunday, September 9, 2018, from 1-3pm , hosted at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic
Church (4309 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Palmyra, VA 22963). All are invited to
Mass at 11:00 am and to stay for the picnic soon following.
The Ultreya will be a true potluck with everyone bringing whatever kind of dish they
would like. We will share a meal first at 1:00pm, with the Ultreya following immedi-
ately after. Many thanks to the Sts. Peter and Paul Community for their hospitality!
The theme for this Ultreya is “New Beginnings” and the Witness Speaker will be
Mary Beth Slagle from Incarnation Parish. We will also be introducing the concept of
the “Echo”, where everyone in attendance will be offered a chance to respond to Mary
Beth’s talk by sharing stories of their own. Also, please invite either someone who
is considering a Cursillo weekend or someone from YOUR weekend, table, or
team to join you at the Ultreya.
There will be 50/50 raffle with proceeds towards the Monsignor Chet Michael Schol-
arship Fund to defray costs of a Cursillo weekend for candidates unable to cover the
cost themselves.
Second, the Thanksgiving Grand Ultreya will be on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at
2:00pm at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church (6562 Amicus Road, Ruck-
ersville, VA 22968). Please add this to your calendars NOW!
Men's Cursillo Weekend
A Men's Cursillo Weekend will be held October 18-21, 2018, at Camp Overlook (near
Harrisonburg). The purpose of the Catholic Cursillo Movement is to support people in
living out their faith in their everyday lives. It is an inspiring 3-day experience led by
a dedicated team of lay adults and a Catholic priest from our area.
Registered Catholic parishioners are encouraged to submit your application by
Thursday, October 4, 2018, and must be sponsored by a person (male or female)
who has made a Cursillo weekend previously. If you do not know anyone who
has made a Cursillo weekend and who can sponsor you, please contact Karen and
Roy Norville at [email protected] and we can arrange a sponsor for you. For
more detailed information and to download an application, please go to the Valley
Cursillo website: www.valleycursillo.com.
