PENTECOST AND THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
On this feast of Pentecost, when we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit
onto the Apostles and beginning of the mission of the Church, we congratu-
late and welcome back our confirmands who were confirmed by Bishop
Barry Knestout, at The Church of Incarnation, on Tuesday May 15.
In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the
gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ.
The prophets of the Old Testament foretold that God's Spirit would
rest upon the Messiah to sustain his mission. Their prophecy was fulfilled
when Jesus the Messiah was conceived by the Spirit and born of the Virgin
Mary. The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus on the occasion of his baptism
by John. Jesus' entire mission occurred in communion with the Spirit.
Before he died, Jesus promised that the Spirit would be given to the
Apostles and to the entire Church. After his death, he was raised by the
Father in the power of the Spirit.
To all the confirmed, remain steadfast in the journey of faith, with
firm hope in the Lord. Jesus gives us this courage! There are no difficulties,
trials, or misunderstandings to fear, provided we remain united to God as
branches to the vine; provided we do not lose our friendship with him;
provided we make ever more room for him in our lives. This is especially so
whenever we feel poor, weak, and sinful. God grants strength to our
weakness, riches to our poverty, conversion and forgiveness to our
sinfulness. The Lord is so rich in mercy.
We, your brothers and sisters, pledge our continual prayers and
support in helping you as you discern the direction/mission the Holy Spirit
is leading you.
Special thanks to parents, Sponsors, CCD teachers who have assisted
these young men and women in any way for their preparation of this
sacrament. In a special way, thank you to Susan and Frank Feliciano and
Pamela Dempsey, confirmation teachers since 2012 to date.

2018 Annual
Diocesan Appeal: Building Our Family of Faith
If you made a pledge to the 2018 Appeal, the
Diocese has begun sending reminders so you
can fulfill your pledge. Please note that if you
chose an auto-debit off your checking account or
credit card, you will not receive a reminder.
It is important for all our parishioners to
complete their pledges. The assistance that is
provided to the ministries and programs the
Appeal supports, such as grants to our mission
parishes, heating and grocery assistance to
families, health insurance for our retired priests
and tuition for our future priests to attend the
seminary, is based on what is collected.
In addition, all parishes receive back a portion
of their amounts collected. This means the more
we collect, the more we can address our im-
portant parish needs. This year, the funds re-
turned to us will be used to reduce our debt.
Thank you for your continued support of the im-
portant ministries and programs that are made
possible due to your generosity to
the Annual Appeal.
The Parish Council is hosting our first

The Knights of Columbus are helping to
Build the Domestic Church "The Family Fully Alive" program is designed for families to get involved; helping to build your fami-ly's faith and inspire family prayer. The Family Fully Alive program is designed to be flexible to meet the continuously changing needs of your family. Each week projects and prayers for fam-ilies to reflect on will be posted in the bulletin. We encourage families to pick a specific place and time to practice this program weekly. We encourage chil-dren of all ages to have an active role in family pray-er time.
This is a suggested Weekly Format:
1. Designate a space in your home where your fam-ily can gather together for prayer (Husband and wife, husband, wife and kids, parents and grand-parents etc.)
2. Open each week with Our Father, Hail Mary and one other prayer
3. Read the theme for the month, then proceed with the months prayer and activities (Will be provid-ed 1st Sunday of the month)
4. Offer some petitions adding personal intentions to the prayer
5. Conclude by reciting Archbishop Lori's Consecra-tion to the Holy Family (Will be provide)
"The Family Fully Alive" program is also known as "Building the Domestic Church"… What is the Do-mestic Church? The term "domestic church" de-scribes the identity and mission of a Christian fami-ly. Its roots are scriptural. This participation makes the Christian family a manifestation of the commun-ion of the Church. When families pray they welcome God into their home making their home a church, and embrace the new manner of love found in Christ that helps them over come their struggles, doubts, fears and uncertainties. Please join Facebook: Friends of Sts. Peter and Paul Church Palmyra VA For Information (meetings, projects, contests, pray-ers , monthly themes) about this program contact:

Offertory Program
We need your help.
“The measure of your own free will offering shall
be in proportion to the blessing the Lord, your
God, has bestowed on you. . .
No one shall appear before the Lord empty hand-
ed, but each of you with as much as he can give, in
proportion to the blessings which the Lord, your
God has bestowed on you.”
Deuteronomy 16:10, 16-17
Giving is a choice. We are challenged to
evaluate our lives and give back a just
portion of our blessings to God.
In spite of difficult times, we are fortunate people.
Our Thanks for these and many other blessings
should be reflected in what we give to our Church.
Remember, giving opportunities come in many
forms, not just financial. Give of
yourself as a volunteer and donate your time to
worthwhile causes.
“What you give will be returned tenfold.”

To parents of young children:
May we suggest . . . RELAX!
God put the wiggle in children.
Don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house.
ALL are welcome!
Sit towards the front where it is easier for you little ones
to see and hear what is going on at the altar.
They tire of seeing the backs of others!
Quietly explain the parts of the Mass and
actions of the priest, choir, and other ministries.
Help them find the hymns and prayers in the hymnal.
Sing the hymns, participate in the liturgy and pray.
Children learn about worship and liturgical behavior by copying you.
If you have to leave Mass with your child,
feel free to do so, but please come back.
As Jesus said: “Let the children come unto me. . .”
Remember that the way we welcome children in church
directly affects the way they respond
to the church, to God, and to one another.
Let them know that they are at home in His House or worship.
To the members of our parish:
The presence of children is a gift to the church
and a reminder that our parish is growing.
Please welcome our children and give a
smile of encouragement to their parents.
