EXALTED RULER’S MESSAGE
By the time you see this missive Christmas and New Year’s will have passed. While I was
blessed to have spent the holidays with my family in Florida, I missed the fellowship of my
Lodge, in particular the fellowship of New Year’s Day. As children we await Christmas with
eagerness, with hopes and dreams of that special gift beneath the tree. Often as we grow older
and life makes us cynical, that magic fades. We as Elks have the magic; the joy is in the giving
of a good deed, the happiness we bring to others. What the Elks can do for us, is in what we do
for others. So much effort was put into our Children’s party, the Veterans’ party at the Bristol
Home, the members’ party and toy drive, and so many of our members and officers turned out,
everyone who participated went home feeling good.
It would be hard not to have that Christmas spirit when you’re involved in an organization like
the Elks, and when you’re a member of Tri-City 14. For a great many reasons Christmas is
rough for me, but seeing the happiness we were able to bring to so many in need is a reminder
of what we are all here for.
I can’t begin to tell you how much all this means to me personally, but it should mean the same
to you as well. Come with us, be a part of what’s going on. There is a place for you in the Elks.
I know we will be looking for people in various committees soon, and there will be openings
for officers in the next year. If you are not sure how to participate, ask. Call me, or call anyone
on the list of officers at the front of this newsletter.
Many great things have happened this year, and many more are planned for the coming year.
We are expecting a new deck, and other improvements to the Lodge. Look for new activities
and functions. We have a great many new ideas from our members, and we are always
tweaking the ones that work.
I am at this moment with my family in Florida, making all the little arrangements for
Christmas, and I couldn’t be happier to be here, but I have learned that the true happiness of the
Holiday season is not in getting gifts but in giving. I will miss you all this year on the first, but
please know my heart is with my fellow Elks. I hope your Christmas this year was everything
you wished, and I pray that 2016 is healthy and happy for everyone.
Fraternally yours,
Charles Greaves

The Childrens Christmas Party was GREAT. 14 members volunteered to help set up, cook, serve the food and
clean up. Santa John Collins was awesome along with his Elk helper Cheryl Scanlan. The gifts were passed
out to all the kids while we all watched their big smiles. Families from the Boy & Girls Clubs of Warwick
were very appreciative to our efforts of bringing cheer to their children. I would like to extend a special thank
you to Santa’s Train Express with Chuck Holm as the engineer and Jake Holm as the conductor. Santa arrived
safely to see all the smiling kids in the window as they arrived.

On December 12th. we had our Holiday Cheer Toy Drive. Members enjoyed food, a comedian and good music
by Whiskey Rhode. I would like to thank everyone for volunteering that day/night and for all the wonderful
toys and gift cards that were donated to go along with the food baskets. There were 19 Elk volunteers and 2
non Elk volunteers on December 17th at the lodge to put together food baskets and toys for St. Rita’s Church
and people in need that our members knew needed help. We also received a request from a school in Coventry
for children who needed a Santa toy. We were able to give all 21 kids a few toys from Santa. Again Thanks to
all that supported us for our Holiday Cheer Toy program.

THANK YOU
I would like to extend my sincere "Thank you" to all members who took part in the visit to the Bristol Veterans
Home on Monday November 30. Thanks to all who helped serve the pizza to all the men and women who thoroughly
enjoyed it and to all who donated much needed hats, gloves & scarves and to Diane Duquette for the wheelchair
bags. We also made a generous donation of items from the Vets' Wish List out of funds from our ENF Beacon
Grant. Special thanks to Marianne Bierne who arranged the entertainment for the evening, the Irish Step Dancers, who
were enjoyed by all. We thank the dancers, who donated their time, for their great performance. I would also like to
thank all the members who helped assemble the Christmas food baskets for the needy. Thanks to funds from our
Gratitude Grant, we were able to assemble several baskets for many needy families. I know the baskets were truly
appreciated by all who received them. Thank you all so much!
