Introduction WELCOME

When you have completed all the assessments, you will have demonstrated the knowledge, skills and experience required to achieve the outcomes of the course: • Identify hazards associated with working in the transmission industry • Inspect and climb lattice steel structures • Carry out a rescue from a transmission structure • Identify equipotential bonding requirements of transmission

structures and associated plant and equipment • Understand the access permit process • Apply basic rigging principles including use of knots, ropes, slings

and basic rigging equipment • Use basic rigging equipment and appropriate mobile plant to perform

light rigging activities on transmission structures.

This Practical Observation assessment is to be completed within THREE (3) to SIX (6) months.

Assessment instructions LEARNER INSTRUCTIONS

BE PREPARED – read the tasks and know what is required.

• Fully complete all tasks – in any order.

• Follow the instructions given.

• Scan the assessment pack and supporting evidence and upload into MySkills when complete – your Training Approver will help.

You must perform the switching process enough times to complete a minimum of THREE (3) practical observations for each task.

Sign the learner details and verification block on the front cover page.

Assessment conditions

Tasks must be completed on course and in the workplace. All Transpower staff and contractors are responsible for working safely and encouraging safe behaviour in others. All tasks must meet industry requirements and comply with current industry rules and regulations as follows: • Industry requirements include all asset owner requirements; manufacturers’

specifications; and enterprise requirements which cover the documented workplace policies, procedures, specifications, business and quality management requirements relevant to the workplace in which assessment is carried out.

• Performance and work practices in relation to these observations must comply with all current legislation, regulations and industry guides including Electricity Supply Industry codes of practice and documented enterprise procedures. These include updated versions of Safety Manual – Electricity Industry (SM-EI) and Transpower’s ‘Keys to Life’, Service Specifications (TP.SS) and related Transpower booklets, for example – Landowner and Occupiers Handbook.

What to do when this assessment is complete

This assessment pack and supporting evidence must be returned to Grid Skills for sign off by a Grid Skills assessor. When you have completed the tasks, scan all assessment documents and upload into MySkills. The Approver will update your assessment status in MySkills and file your original documents for safe keeping, pending moderation.

Re-assessment

You are entitled to at least one reassessment for this practical observation. If you are not being successful in your observations, contact Grid Skills for advice.

TECHNICAL EXPERT INSTRUCTIONS

You must only complete each Practical Observation form when you have directly observed the learner. Your signature verifies, on behalf of your company, that the learner has demonstrated their ability to meet industry and enterprise specific standards. You must be approved (by Grid Skills) as a Technical Expert and sign the Technical Expert Observer verification at the end of this document

separate observations. :

Part B: Learner Practical Observations

Learner Assessment 7

Before you carry out an observation, you will have observed the learner meeting the required standards over a period of time and in a range of situations.

Use this Checklist as a guide

Prepare to observe þ

Make sure your employer has approved you to sign-off observations. o Fill out the Technical Expert Assessment Validation form. o Be prepared: read the assessment and assessment conditions so you know what you are verifying. o

If you don’t understand the assessment and conditions, call Grid Skills. o Observe þ

Do not lead the learner. o Be fair and consistent in your decisions. o For each task shown in the Observation, tick the checkboxes when complete, date and initial, and provide comment. o

Sign off the Observer verification only when the learner performs to industry standard. o

Check þ Check that Observation documentation is completed to company requirements and is relevant to the assessment. o

Support the learner to complete the remainder of the assessment and to return it to Grid Skills as instructed – scan to MySkills. o

Non-performance
