Teach your children well
Teach your children well
From the principal Hi everyone – Going from success to success!
Please Accept our Condolences
All Trangie Central staff and students would like to extend their sympathy to Mrs McMaster and her family for the
loss of their mother and grandmother. I know how keenly they will mourn her loss.
Cross Country
Congratulations to our Primary Cross Country team that travelled to Yeoval last week. The team came away winners
of the whole day and eight students made it away to the next level! Well done to everyone!
We apologise to Aston Gordon who, with a mix-up of pickups got left behind. So sorry Aston, we are fixing up the
excursion policy so that never happens again and everyone will have a copy. We hope that the day at Dubbo Show
made up for it!
Reconciliation Day celebration
Trangie Central School is proud of the Aboriginal culture of so many of our students and staff and we were honoured
and proud this week to be asked to send members of our Secondary Aboriginal Dance Ensemble to Narromine to
celebrate Reconciliation. Our Year 7 students, Miss Murtagh’s Year 6 from 2016, were also asked to attend and
recreate their thought-provoking MADD Night item which moved so many people last year.
Behaviour Code for Students
Public schools have very clearly defined expectations of behaviour. I have attached The Behaviour Code for Students
to this newsletter so that all of our community - parents, caregivers and students – can have a common understanding
of what the Department of Education has stipulated and therefore what will be expected and enforced in our school.
We are very fortunate indeed to have school population that works as a team, follows our rules and wears our uniform
almost without exception. There are a few students at the moment, however who feel that they should decide what our
uniform should look like. Our school has a very strict uniform code which cannot be ‘adjusted’ at whim. The uniform
code is the same for everyone will be enforced for everyone in the same way.
I would like to thank all our families for being so supportive and helping us set and maintain our usual high standards.
Uniform is compulsory and therefore if anyone has trouble with the cost of this please do not hesitate to contact us to
arrange a payment plan. I would like to recognise and thank the P&C for managing our uniform shop to ensure that all
uniforms are offered to the students at cost price.
Attendance banner for this week:
Year 1 - No students on the less than 85% attendance list
Year 6 - Only one student on the less than 85% attendance list
Year 11 - Best Secondary class
Year 9 - The Secondary year that needs to improve
Congratulations and well done to all those parents and caregivers who give their child this gift.
Finally ........
My door is and always has been open – whether you are happy, sad or mad. I need to know if we are not doing
something right but I also need to know that you trust our motives and our intentions. Everything we do, every single
day is for YOUR children. If we can do it better, tell us.
Facebook is for cowards – so please tell us to our face!
All the best
Anne Holden
Our children can achieve great things when we set
high expectations for them.
Staff Smile of the Week (Week 5)
Goes to Jo for being extremely compassionate.
Very heartfelt!

Behaviour Code for Students
NSW public schools are committed to providing safe, supportive and responsive learning environments for everyone. We teach and model the behaviours we value in our students.

achievement of high quality teaching and learning.
Behaviour Code for Students: Actions Promoting the learning, wellbeing and safety of all students in NSW Public Schools is a high priority for the Department of Education and Communities. We implement teaching and learning approaches to support the development of skills needed by students to meet our high standards for respectful, safe and engaged behaviour.

The principal and school staff, using their professional judgment, are best placed to maintain discipline and provide safe, supportive and responsive learning environments. The department provides a policy framework and resources such as Legal Issues Bulletins, access to specialist advice, and professional learning to guide principals and their staff in exercising their professional judgment. In this context the NSW Government and the Department of Education and Communities will back the authority and judgment of principals and school staff at the local level.

Head Teachers’ Report
As the weather gets colder, it’s a lovely time of year to curl up inside with a
good book. Reading is an essential part of our young people’s development
of language, ideas and social learning, as they explore worlds and characters
that are more (or less!) familiar than their own. Everyone should be aiming
to read fiction for pleasure for at least 20 minutes every day. There are
plenty of novels on the shelves of the TCS library, just waiting for someone
to borrow them and be whisked away into their pages.
University of Sydney Kickstart Biology Workshop
This week our HSC Biology students attended the University of Sydney
Kickstart workshop in Dubbo. The workshop is a series of hands-on
activities directly related to the HSC syllabus and it provides experience and
resources that may not be available in all schools.
The students dissected brains and eyes, they investigated genetically
inherited traits in fruit flies and blood types in families. They observed and
discussed sensory perception in a range of animals, including flatworms,
bees, platypus, fish, lizards and snakes. There was sound equipment for
students to investigate how sound is generated, transmitted, received and
interpreted by humans and we used otoscopes to look into each others ears
(just like a doctor does!). In addition to all that, there were animal embryo’s to compare and
pentadactyl limbs (five-fingered hands) that show how closely we are related to other
species.
Fact of the Day 1: the dog has the greatest range of hearing of all animals and elephants
have the greatest range of hearing in the low frequencies.
Fact of the Day 2: whales, dolphin and porpoises evolved from hippopotamuses (and so did
horses!).
Fact of the Day 3: if you slice and dice a planarium flatworm, you can grow more worms or
worms with 2 or 3 heads!
Overall, this workshop is a valuable experience for our students and it was a joy to watch
them being actively engaged in their learning and enjoying themselves!

CHS Under 16s Touch Footy
TCS travelled to Dubbo for the Under 16s Touch Football competition. Graced with great
weather, the boys kicked off against Warren Central School, having a 2-all draw. This was a good
start to the day leading into another three games. Unfortunately, the boys weren’t able to get a
win, with an injury occurring to one of the boys.
James Churchward demonstrated great leadership skills on the field and tried his best to keep the
momentum and morale high. Congratulations to the boys for a great day full of sportsmanship and
fun!
On the other hand, the girls had a blinder of a day. The girls took out their pool, finishing
first and progressing into the finals. The first round saw the girls win 10-0 against
Mendooran, with Jacana Powell scoring five tries, Tegan Hamilton and Demi Dunn two
tries each and Jesse Cole one try. This built the girls’ confidence as they played Trundle
Central School to secure a 4-3 win in the final seconds of the game. The girls started to get
a bit fatigued but dug deep to take a win over a competitive Coolah Central School team,
winning 3-0. Taking out their pool, the girls then played in the finals against a well
experienced Molong team who scored in the first three minutes, catching us off-side. The
girls re-grouped and maintained a tight defence line but were unable to break the Molong
defence in attack. Fatigue let the girls down in the last five minutes, allowing two more
tries, giving Molong a 3-0 win.
It was a successful day for our TCS students with a lot of new and young players on the
team. Congratulations to both teams!

CHS Open Boys Touch Footy
On Friday 26 May the Open Boys competed in the NSW CHS Central Schools Touch Regional Gala Day. The boys
were placed in Pool B for their round games. The results were as follows:
Game 1: Trangie 5 beat Mendooran 4
This was our first game of the day which we started off well and took the lead. However, Mendooran came back and
we had to work hard to maintain our led. Bryce Hannaford made some good ground with his drives and Morgan Gale
excelled in attack, scoring 3 of our 5 tries. Reed Heterick and Daniel Flannery also scored a try each.
Game 2: Trangie 7 beat Warren 1
Trangie was too strong for Warren, who only had 1 substitute for the game. Wingers Mal Hanley and Nick Newman
went really well, scoring tries from the outside with their quick pace.
Game 3: Trangie 8 beat Molong 4
The boys all played extremely well this game. They went in knowing it would be a hard game and lifted. Their drives
down field and movement of the ball was great, with the opposition referee saying that a team hadn’t made him work
that hard as a ref for a while (which was a huge compliment from the ref/coach).
Game 4: Dunedoo 2 beat Trangie 1
This was a very physical game, especially from the opposition. The boys struggled a bit in attack as fatigue started to
set in for some. It was a close game, with Daniel scoring our only try. Losing this put us second in Pool B for the finals,
which were next.
Finals: Coolah 6 beat Trangie 3
Coolah were a great team and had come top of Pool A. Trangie dug deep but unfortunately were unable to take the
lead. Daniel, Mal and Reed were our try scorers and the team did really well against the strong Coolah team.
Overall, it was a great day of touch. The boys did themselves and the school proud. We only had 3 substitutes which
they all started to feel later in the day after 5 games. A huge thank you to Blake Dennis for being a ref, I know it was a
hard job but we really appreciated it. Congratulations to the boys and hopefully next year we can make it through to the
next level!

The Importance of Reading
Reading fluently is the building block of ALL academic learning and
parents/ caregivers have a huge role to play in this process.
We ask that you spend AT LEAST 20 MINUTES listening to your
child read each night. This can be hard if you’ve got a larger family
but it is really important that you make this a priority. Even our most
fluent, Year 6 readers will benefit greatly from reading aloud to an
adult each night.
Our teachers and staff work very hard to develop reading skills and
allow time in each day for reading but nothing can come close to
having a loving adult to snuggle up with and read to at home.
YOU can make a massive difference to your young reader and
their educational success.
Moorambilla Workshop
Last Friday, our students were fortunate to be involved in a fantastic
music workshop. Michelle Leonard and her group of inspiring
musicians, educators and creators visited our school from 4.00pm-
5:30pm to run her music workshop. Students participated in singing,
rhythm work and lessons to expand their knowledge of musical
notation and history. Throughout the process Michelle and her team
identify a small number of students who demonstrate a ‘flair’ for
music to be part of her Moorambilla residency camps and gala
concerts. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the process and I was very
proud of their enthusiasm, lovely manners and the general way they
conducted themselves. Selection letters are sent to the school next
month. Fingers crossed!

2017 Western Drama Camp
Last Sunday, six girls from TCS travelled to Lake Burrendong to
participate in the Western Region Drama Camp. There were three
tutors who took different age groups and made a play with them.
There were lots of different activities such as physical theatre,
characteristics (where we learn how to take a person and think about
what they’re thinking and use their mannerisms etc) and the last
group was all about your voice. We learnt how to project our voice
and breathe deeply using different parts of our stomach. We got to do
theatre sports on the last night. It was really fun because we got to get
into teams of seven and we had to be quick thinkers and when we got
a topic we had to do a performance about it. My team had topics like
making an ad for a pen, miming a winter sport and we had to talk for
five minutes without stopping.
There was so much laughter and fun on this camp. On the last
day we had two teams and had to create a drama camp chant.
The judges couldn’t decide who won so they gave everyone a
lolly. We finished off with a performance for the parents when
they came to pick us up. Besides having a great time with my
friends I think drama camp is a worthwhile experience because
you learn heaps of new skills, meet new people from other
schools and have heaps of fun.

Jacky Murtagh PRIMARY Cross Country at Yeoval
On Friday the 26th of May, children from TCS went to Yeoval to race kids from other schools for Cross Country.
The course was 2km or 3km for the older kids. The track was truly a cross country as we had to run through puddles,
down beside a creek, over rocks and potholes and the course was quite hilly. Our school won the overall point score
and we were presented with the shield. Six students from our school are heading away for the Western Area
competition in Geurie. Congratulations to:

Thank you to the teachers for organising the event and taking us away and to the children who showed respect and
great sportsmanship. Our best memories are…
“ Making new friends from other schools but I didn’t like falling into the pothole!” Katelyn
“I met up with one of my karate friends from Narromine and I was proud of coming 3rd and making it away to
Western.” Sonny
“I liked seeing kids from my two old schools, Yeoval and Narromine PS. I think I
ran my worst though because I fell in two pot holes before I even started the race
and then I face planted.” Blake
“My best memory was keeping on going even though I was exhausted. I felt quite
proud of myself” Shae
