PRIMARY SCIENCE QUALITY MARK—SILVER
We are delighted to announce that Even Swindon Primary School has been awarded the Primary
Science Quality Mark at Silver level. 180 schools across the country have achieved a PSQM award this
round and we are very proud to
have gained this nationally recognised
status. The STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Maths) team, teachers
and children have been working hard
over the last 18 months to increase the
quality of provision of STEM subjects and
are pleased to know that their hard work
has been recognised with an accolade for
the school.
We have had yet another amazing term at Even Swindon with some great activities and lots
of successes!
Thank you to all the children and staff who have taken part in the many activities and sports events this Term with our gymnasts winning Gold at the Swindon event. Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed having chicks in their classroom, watching them hatch and getting to learn all about the life cycle of a chick first hand. We have held a science week, a local community history week and a walk to school event.
Years 2 & 6 have also been busy in preparation for and sitting their SATS; all of the children have worked extremely hard. This week we welcomed our new Reception parents into school, the children will be starting with us September 2018.
Looking forward to next term, we have plenty planned such as class day trips, sports
days and the annual summer school fete. Year 6 will be particularly busy with their PGL
residential, school production, secondary school inductions, BBQ and leavers evening. The
value for Term 6 is Trust and the PSHE theme is ‘Changing me’. Further details are on the
calendar page and will follow in next term’s newsletters.
We hope you have a fantastic break. Don’t forget that school is closed for a staff training
day on Monday 4th June. We look forward to seeing you all back at school ready for a busy
term on Tuesday 5th June.

In the event of bad weather, Sports Days may need to be cancelled at short notice. We will
update parents via Parentmail if we need to cancel, please do not phone the school direct.
Please can you make sure children have a water bottle and PE kit in school. Children need
to be in their coloured house T-shirts. As well as looking really smart, this means that team
games can be organised much easier and encourages teamwork.

BEDTIME STORY
Reading a bedtime story to your children can be a
wonderful way to encourage sleep as well as having many more benefits. It can help and encourage your child to love reading and develops their imagination skills, transporting them into magical worlds. With
the demands of life we know that sometimes it can be hard to find the time every night to share a story
book, so some of the members of staff at Even Swindon have been reading some bedtime stories for
you to share with your child at home. These are on our website. http://evenswindon.co.uk/parents/
bedtime-stories/ If any parents would like to video themselves reading a story then
please let us know and we will add you to our collection or video you
at school if that is more convenient for you. It would be lovely to have stories in other languages as well.
THE USE OF MOBILE PHONES ON SCHOOL PREMISES
We’ have recently amended our e-safety policy with regards to the use of mobile phones on the school premises. Please see extract below:
1.4.9 Parent and family use of electronic devices
Mobile phones and other electronic devices are not permitted to be used anywhere in the school or on school grounds by parents and carers. Parents and carers wishing to make phone calls, text or use the internet, must do outside of the school site. This is in line with the safeguarding of our staff and pupils.
Classroom volunteers must abide by the same mobile device rulings as staff; mobile phones and personal electronic devices but not be used at all during time supporting in the school.
Parents are not permitted to take photos of the school or the children inside the school without consent from the Head teacher.
When helping on school trips, parents, carers and other volunteers must not use their mobile phones or other personal device, this includes updating parents by text or via social media. All communication will be from parent mail or school’s twitter account.
Some events photographs will be permitted. Parents and carers may take photos but they are for personal use and no photo should be uploaded to any social media platform. This include photos of your own pupil anywhere on the school site. At times parents and carers are expected to sign to say they will abide by the policy.
CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY
There will be no celebration assembly on Friday 25th May due to the science exhibition. The next
assembly will be on Friday 8th June for KS1.
