TNEA COUNSELING PROCEDURE

TNEA Counseling

• Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) is the process through which more than 1.5 lakh engineering aspirants get themselves enrolled into engineering colleges of Tamil Nadu through single window counseling.

Cut – Off Marks

• One of the main eligibility criteria is the minimum eligibility mark and it is the sum of marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Maths divided by sum of maximum marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths.


Cut – Off Marks

• Aggregate mark or cut-off mark is the sum of Physics mark obtained scaled to 50, Chemistry mark obtained scaled to 50 and Maths mark obtained scaled to 100. Thus the maximum aggregate or cut-off mark is 200.


Cut – Off Marks

• The candidates are ranked based on the aggregate mark or cut-off mark. The ranked candidates will be grouped into counseling sessions ordered by rank and in turn each counseling session will be ordered rank wise.


Random Number and Rank Publication

• Eventually many candidates will have same aggregate mark leading to tie, which should be broken to ensure unique ranking. The following rules mentioned below is used to break the tie:



• If two candidates have the same aggregate marks, the candidate with higher Maths mark will be ranked above

• If the Maths Mark is same, then a higher Physics mark would break the tie

• If the Maths and Physics mark are same, then the Chemistry mark would be eventually same. The fourth optional subject mark would break the tie.



• If the fourth optional subject marks are also same then the candidate’s date of birth will be considered. Elder candidate gets the benefit of being ranked above.

• If the date of birth is also same, then a 10-digit random number assigned to each candidate decides the ranking. A candidate with the highest random number will be ranked above the other.



• A random number is a number generated by a process, whose outcome is unpredictable, and which cannot be subsequently reliably reproduced.

• Before ranking, after the application scrutiny, a random number will be assigned to every candidate.

• In order to make this random number assignment transparent, it will be assigned in public amidst the media and will subsequently be published in the TNEA website.



• After random number assignment, the rank list will be prepared and published in the website. Usually, re-evaluation marks will be released after the publication of TNEA rank list.



• In which case, the candidate’s marks if revised, their marks and rank will be updated on production of authenticated supporting documents. In which case, the candidate can attend the counseling by his/her revised rank and revised date of counseling calculated by the candidate itself subject to scrutiny and approval of TNEA administrators.


Counseling Call Letter

• The candidates will be ranked and called for counseling based on the rank as described above.

• A call letter containing the date of counseling for the particular candidate for allotment of seats will be sent to the communication address.

• The counseling date will also be published on the TNEA website during publication of rank.

• The candidates may also find their counseling dates published in the leading dailies and in TNEA website.


Single Window Counseling


Payment of Counseling fee

• The candidate has to remit the sum towards conduction of counseling in the Bank counter and receive a bank receipt or challan after submitting their call letter.

• The candidates will be allowed to remit the sum well before their counseling session so as to avoid crowding at the last hour.

• The challan will contain the candidate’s ranking in the respective counseling session along with other information.


Briefing Session

• The candidate accompanied with one person with the bank challan will be allowed at the allotted time.

• Entering the briefing hall, each candidate’s attendance will be marked for that counseling session.

• The candidates will then be briefed about the order in which they should arrange the certificates and procedures that will follow.


Certificate Verification

• The candidate’s certificates and supporting documents in original format will be verified.

• TNEA can reject a candidate if the certificates or supporting documents were not original or any discrepancies are found.

• The candidates upon successful verification will be allowed into the counseling hall.


Certificates and Documents


Nativity Certificate

• Tamil Nadu Native candidates who have not studied any one of VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Standard or whole in Tamil Nadu needs to submit Nativity Certificate along with the application for TNEA 2014.


First Graduate tuition fee exemption

• Tamil Nadu native candidates who are to be first graduate in a family, those who are attending counseling and joined in professional courses in Government / Aided and Self-Financing Engineering Colleges (for Government quota) alone are eligible. (If the applicant's brother or sister has already availed First Graduate Tuition Fee concession for studying Professional Courses, then the applicant is not eligible for such concession).


Special Reservation

• Tamil Nadu native candidates alone are eligible for the special reservation.


• Son / Daughter of Ex-Serviceman – Certificate no. III• Son / Daughter of Freedom Fighters – Certificate no.

IV• Medical certificate for Orthopedically Differently

Abled persons - Certificate No. V• Medical certificate for Hearing Impaired - Certificate

No. VI• Medical certificate for Visually Impaired - Certificate

No. VII


Attendance Marking

• Once you have reported to the Authorities on the scheduled day of your counseling, please ensure that you have marked your attendance on the sheet kept for the purpose.

• This ensures that even if you miss out when your name is called, you always stand a chance to be called for repeatedly.

• Tenth Standard Mark sheet• Twelfth (+2) standard Mark sheet• Transfer Certificate (TC)• Community Certificate (if applicable)• Counseling Call Letter

• At least three sets of Photocopies of the above documents


College and Course Selection


• The candidates will then be called according to the session rank before the terminal for counseling.

• The candidates can now choose a seat from the available seats.

• They can make three choices. • Based upon the session rank, choices will be

confirmed. • The candidates are encouraged to have at least a

list of 5-10 choices either college wise or branch of study wise.


• The choice may be made by visiting the particular college and getting feedback from the faculty and students of the respective preferred college.

• Moreover, those choices may become unavailable on the respective candidate's counseling day due to some other higher ranked candidate opting for it.

• Therefore, the candidate has to keep track of the availability, posted on the TNEA website after every counseling session.


• After the seat is allotted, the respective candidate alone can collect the allotment order from the Allotment Order section. The candidates should verify that the course and college printed in the respective allotment order is the same as that of his choice.


Admission

• The candidate has to take this allotment order to the respective college and enroll for admission before the last date mentioned in the allotment order.


• Even on the day of counseling, the choices of a particular candidate may not be available, in which case, the candidate may track and re-prioritise his choices by monitoring the LIVE displays at the TNEA venue.


• After the seat is allotted, the respective candidate alone can collect the allotment order from the Allotment Order section. The candidates should verify that the course and college printed in the respective allotment order is the same as that of his choice.


Dos

• Have a list of at least five colleges offering your choice of course.

• It is wise to forego your favorite college if the seats are not there in your course rather than choosing a course that will not suit you just for selecting that college .

• Know the name of the college correctly• While selecting the college ensure that it is the one you

wanted, because there may be more than one college with that name.

• Know the COLLEGE COUNSELING CODE and verify it with the name of the college you select.


Dos

• Verify the facilities in the colleges that you may choose, online, word of mouth…..better still make a personal visit and be sure.

• Check with the validity of the Accreditation status of the institution – NBA , NAAC accreditation period.


Don’ts

• Don’t go late to the counseling session. Be at least two hours before your scheduled time so that it gives enough time to verify the seat availability status of your choice of institutions.

• Do not select a course or a college just because your friends or relatives have chosen it.

• All Nationalized banks offer Educational loans.• Choose a branch in your area of residence so

that the access and processing is easier.• Apply early as many institutions insist of

payment of tuition fee before beginning of the semester.

• Make a list of documents required by the bank and make sure that you submit them altogether in the specified formats to quicken the process.
