Q: One of my favorite reality shows is "The Real Housewives" series on Bravo. I especially love Bethenny Frankel on the New York series, and I wondered if that show and/or Bethenny would be back? -- Michele M., Bel Air, Md.
A: I spoke with Bethenny recently, and she told me she has no plans to return to the "Real Housewives." In
her words: "I very highly doubt I will go back to 'Housewives.' I don't see any reason or upside for that." Besides, Bethenny is pretty busy these days as a new mom, a newlywed and promoting her "Body by Bethenny" workout DVD.
And if you are wondering how she shed all that baby weight, it's simple: "[The weight] came off afterward, because I wasn't extreme about dieting nor had I binged while pregnant. Just be balanced before, during and after, and treat your diet like a bank account, and you will have no issue."
• • •Q: I really love the addition of Lindsay Pulsipher on "True Blood," but this makes me doubt the
potential re-emergence of "FlashForward," since Lindsay played teenaged Charlie in one of the final scenes' flash-forwards. Should I give up on the dream of "FlashForward" being picked up by another network? -- Fred J., via e-mail
A: I am sad to report that I think yes, the dream might be over. Many fans, including myself, were drawn into the exciting series and had hoped that maybe TNT or AMC would save it from extinction. When I asked Lindsay about the possibility, she wasn't super hopeful of a "FlashForward" resurrection.
"There hasn't been any talk of that, that I know of, unfortunately," Lindsay tells me. "I know a lot of people really loved that show, and I think it had amazing potential to be really great next season. Unfortunately, I have not heard anything, but you never know -- if another cable network wants to pick it up, that would be amazing!"
• • •READERS: A few months back, a
reader wrote in to ask who co-starred with Mariette Hartley in the series of cute, bickering husband-and-wife com-mercials. I created a contest asking you readers to help, and from those who answered correctly, five would win an autographed copy of Mariette Hartley's autobiography, "Breaking the Silence." After sifting through hundreds of submis-sions, I have randomly drawn five win-ners: Diane L. of Whitesboro, N.Y.; Trish C. of Waldorf, Md.; Barbara C. of Palm Springs, Calif.; Edward A. of Woodbury, Conn.; and Gordon D. (via e-mail). They, along with many of you who wrote in, knew the answer was James Garner. Thank you all for entering!

A.J. Allmendinger hasn't enjoyed many NASCAR weekends as successful as the one he just completed in Watkins Glen, N.Y.
The Los Gatos, Calif., native was highly successful in the Champ Car World Series, but the Sprint Cup Series has been a struggle
since he joined Team Red Bull in 2007 and Richard Petty Motorsports in 2009. Allmendinger finished 24th in the 2009 Sprint Cup point standings and currently resides in 22nd place.
Just days after Petty and Foster Gillett of RPM an-nounced that Allmendinger's contract as driver of the No. 43 Ford has been extended, he celebrated by finish-ing fourth in the Heluva Good at the Glen. His career best, by the way, was a third in the 2009 Daytona 500.
"We are definitely not where we want to be ... right now, but I see the potential and want to keep building a team around me that continues to get better," said Allmendinger, 28. "We want to reach a point where we compete for a win every weekend and hopefully, eventu-ally, get a championship. That is the goal."
A championship is certainly a long way off, but All-mendinger doesn't shy away from the task at hand. He said he talked to other teams, but decided to remain at RPM, in part, because of Kasey Kahne's departure at season's end.
Allmendinger wants to be "the guy.""Yeah, that was a big selling point," he said. "I am
ready to be a leader of this race team. It's something that I thrive on and excites me every day to know that I can be the guy. I have the confidence in myself to know I can lead this team and represent it to the best of its abilities."
After finishing fourth at Watkins Glen, Allmendinger said, "The car was really strong all day. We didn't have anything for the '42' (Juan Montoya). He was on another planet. But for the others (runner-up Kurt Busch and third-place Marcos Ambrose), I felt like maybe we had something for them.
"It was a solid day. It was a good day in the pits. We need to build on this. It's really cool to sign a multi-year deal and have a great weekend."

One of the best things about a nice summer af-ternoon is lying out in the sun and soaking up rays.
While you are out in your summer paradise, though, what are you lying on? If you have brought a towel or blanket, it might be time for an upgrade. Sometimes it’s a heck of a lot better to just hang out in a hammock than to lie on the ground.
Hammocks have been around for centuries. They were used in the Americas well before the English or Spanish language was. Native Americans, particularly Mayans and other Central American tribes, developed hammocks for comfort, and trading allowed them to diversify the types of hammocks they could make. By the time Columbus first arrived in the Americas, he found hammocks in the Caribbean, several of which he brought back to Europe with his reports. Since then, hammock designs have consistently improved. Almost 1,000 years after its invention, the hammock began to be made from cotton. This recent conver-sion allows for cheaper and softer hammocks for enjoyment.
These days, most hammocks need about 12 to 15 feet of space for their full length and six to eight feet across for their proper utilization. Hammocks can be strapped to two trees, a tree and a post, two posts or even a hammock stand. When figuring out where to put your hammock, look not only for an area with a 12 to 15-foot gap but for one where you can put your hammock four to five feet above the ground. Hammock heights and lengths vary, though, so be sure to check the instructions that come with your hammock.
Hammocks are more convenient and diverse than ever. They are easy to put up and take down. If you walk outside with your hammock in tow, you can be relaxing in it in just a couple of minutes. If the weather looks fierce, you can put it away in the same amount of time. Many models are also now perfectly acceptable within the home as well as outside and can also be used in less conventional ways. Some are even less expensive and more comfortable than beds. Hammock swings, for example, provide the comfort of a hammock in the shape of a chair. These are usually hung from the ceiling and, depending on design, can hold one to three people. Another nice development is the tree strap. These are attached to the ends of your hammock and strap around the trunk or large branch of nearby trees, making hammocks a viable camping accessory as well as an environmen-tally friendly option.
When taking young children onto a hammock, place a blanket on the ropes to prevent them from getting stuck and keep an eye on them to make sure they do not fall off the side. While properly installed hammocks are hard to flip, children may make sudden movements or attempt to get out of them in unexpected ways. For added safety, take the hammock down after each time you use it.
If you are looking for comfort and style, you re-ally should consider trying a hammock. Many places selling hammocks have an in-store display. Try it out and imagine yourself relaxing in it on a nice summer afternoon.

DEAR PAW'S CORNER: We adopted a 2-year-old spayed female cat. "Trudy" has a problem when she pees in her litter box. She tends to spray over the top of the box. Some-one suggested a covered cat box, so I found two at garage sales. She still pees to the back, and the pee drips down the back of the box where it clips on. Why is she doing this? I use litter she likes. Is this just a habit, or should I take her to the vet and get checked out? We really don't want to take her back just because of this. She is so sweet. Is there anything else we can do? -- Linda D., via e-mail
DEAR LINDA: It's always worth a trip to the veterinarian just to rule out any health problems. If Trudy checks out OK, there may not be much else to do after that.
I've seen cats before that sprayed over the top of their litter boxes. In one case it was a dominant male in a three-cat household that

clearly wanted everyone to know this was his box. He refused to use a covered box and would pee outside of the one that was installed, so his owner put the old box back and built a splashguard -- cardboard wrapped with foil -- that drained back into the litter box. That cat loved spraying on the splash-guard all the more because of the sound of water hitting the tinfoil.
Trudy does not appear to have this prob-lem. She's not refusing her litter box, which is very good. Don't take her back because of this minor issue. If the veterinarian doesn't find anything wrong, continue to rinse the lit-ter box top after every cleaning, and perhaps rig a splash-guard system that prevents the urine from collecting in the rim.

• • •Q: I am getting older and would like to liquidate
some of my older expensive collectibles and antiques. How do I go about finding a reputable dealer? - Cathy, Albuquerque, N.M.
A: You should first find and identify dealers who buy and sell the items like those that you have. Don’t contact a furniture store if you have mostly collectible glass.
Your next step is to ask for ref-erences and credentials. How long has the dealer been in business and what type of background does he or she have? Have there been any complaints filed at the Better Busi-ness Bureau? Most importantly, follow up on references. Don’t be shy about asking its customers and clients about the quality of service they received, and if they would rec-
ommend this dealer to their neighbors and friends. You live in Albuquerque and are near Santa Fe.
You should find excellent dealers in your region without much trouble. Do your research and be an informed consumer.

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: I got a sudden attack of dizziness that landed me in bed. I couldn't stand. Finally, with the help of my husband, I got to the doc-tor, who said I had a viral infection called vestibular neuritis. I am taking medicine and am somewhat bet-ter, but the dizziness isn't completely gone. Will it go? When? -- L.T.
ANSWER: I have to warn readers that the causes of dizziness are diverse, and vestibular neuritis, while common, is only one of many causes. The vestibule of the inner ear has three fluid-filled canals that work like a carpenter's level, that gadget whose center contains a fluid-containing tube with a bubble in it. The balance tells the carpenter if a piece of wood is aligned. The inner ear canals tell people if they are aligned. They send signals to the brain that keep us balanced. A viral infection of those canals or of the nerve that sends signals to the brain makes people feel like they've been put in the spin cycle of a washer.
Not only are affected people dizzy, they become nauseated and often throw up.
Symptoms of vestibular neuritis lessen in two to three days, but full recovery can take up to six or more weeks.
A cortisone drug taken within the first three days of illness can ease symptoms. And medicines like promethazine relieve dizziness and nausea, but they make some people so drowsy that they prefer the dizziness.
The booklet on dizziness discusses vestibular neu-ritis as well as the other dizziness causes. Readers can obtain a copy by writing: Dr. Donohue -- No. 801W, Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475. Enclose a check or money order (no cash) for $4.75 U.S./$6 Canada with the recipient's printed name and address. Please allow four weeks for delivery.
• • •DEAR DR. DONOHUE: My 17-year-old son is a
baseball pitcher. Last week he came home with his pitching arm greatly swollen. I was alarmed, and I told my husband we needed to take the boy to the emergency room. My husband thought I was over-reacting, but I insisted. I am glad I did. He had a blood clot in a vein that caused the swelling. They
treated him with medicine to dissolve the clot and put him on a blood thinner. Will he ever pitch again? -- R.C.
ANSWER: I'm sure the ER doctors checked your son for things that make a person prone to form clots. He must not have had any of those conditions. He had an "effort-induced" clot, a clot caused by repetitive physical exertion. Now that the clot has been dissolved, you son should be able to resume pitching after the rest period prescribed by his doctor.
• • •DEAR DR. DONOHUE: I drink skim milk every day
for its protein and calcium. I can't stand the taste, so I add chocolate syrup to it. Now I heard that chocolate blocks calcium absorption. Is this true? -- J.D.
ANSWER: Oxalate in chocolate can interfere with calcium absorption, but the amount of oxalate added to a glass of milk doesn't significantly reduce calcium's entry into the body.
