Thank you for your support Richie Families Over the past week, the Richie students have had the opportunity to be involved in the ANZAC Day March, School Ceremony and Dawn Service . These event were very well attended by students with over half the school participating in the March. Many thanks to the Richie families who supported their children to attend these functions and marched with us on Sunday. Many thanks also to the Richie staff who sup-ported this event. Also well done and thank you to Mr Andrew Jensen, Christopher Ford and our Richie School leaders who ran another successful ANZAC Day parade at school last Friday despite the wet weather. The students’ behaviour during this service was exceptional. NAPLAN in a fortnight. The students in years 3 and 5 are going through final preparations for their NAPLAN testing in week 4. Breakfast snacks will be provided for the students to help them relax and engage with each other prior to the testing. I would like to thank the P&C for their financial support for the breakfast. The teachers have undertaken great work with the students in Literacy and Numeracy in preparation for the tests. The time table for the tests is below – • Tuesday May11

th – Language Conventions and Writing

• Wednesday May 12th – Reading and Comprehension

• Thursday May 13th – Numeracy

It is important all year 3 and 5 students arrive at school before 9am so that the tests can begin on time. We look forward to support from parents making sure their child gets a good night’s sleep before each test over the 3 days. Cross Country The annual school Cross Country at Richie was held today from 9am – 11am. Preps – Year 6 ran various length races. Around the school and Friemann oval. Congratulations to Burdekin House who took out the overall points in 2021. The announcement of the individual winners will be in the next newsletter. Country Music Parade - • The theme this year is ‘Aussie Mateship” • Country Music Dress Up Parade at School – Friday April 30

th – 9:20am after parade - Students

can dress in their country and western gear or dress up to reflect the theme of mates. • Country Music Parade down Main Street – Students assemble at 5pm for a 5:30pm start opposite the Charters Towers Fire Station in the Park area. Please keep an eye out for the truck. Students follow our Float along Gill Street into Mossman Street. Collection after this parade is at the Charters Towers Regional Council Chambers grassed area safe zone labelled ‘Richmond Hill State School’ at 6:15pm. Students must be collected by parents unless otherwise arranged with the school. Our song is ‘G’Day G’Day’ by Slim Dusty so once again dress as a typical country singer, an Aussie Mates or just your western gear as was done for the Parade at School. A huge thank you to the Staier Family from ‘Bolt and Fodder’ for the use of their truck for the event. Popits Banned As of yesterday Popits were banned from school at Richie, as some students were us-ing them in classes, during lunch breaks and some were causing fights in the school. Students can only use Popits given to them by staff at school. New Adopt – A – Cop For Richie Our new Adopt – A – Cop Constable Maria was adopted by the school in a ceremony on Tuesday Morning. Maria, who is a past parent of Richie, enthralled all of the students present showing them what a police officer carries with them. Some great and challenging questions were also asked by the students at the ceremony. Welcome back to the Richie community Maria.

This decision will impact on thousands of children, families, school communities across Queensland. We understand you may be disappointed.

If you would like to talk to me, please feel free to contact the school to arrange an appointment!

Eating Healthy Most processed or ‘packaged foods’ are generally high in sugar, fat or salt. The body also uses these foods quicker for energy. Fresh fruit, vegetables and sandwiches are not only healthier, they also release the energy kids need a lot slower into the body. Please try to pack sandwiches and fruit in your child’s lunch box every day for the sustained energy they need.
