Matific Australian and New Zealand Maths Competition

Bungendore Public School has received an amazing prize pack from Matific Australia for extraordinary success in

the Australian and New Zealand Maths Competition this year.

“Our school finished in the top ten schools overall-and was the only Australian public school to do so, as well as

taking third place call Australian schools,” teacher Ms Kerry Forman said.

“One of the Year 5 classes, 5F, came fourth overall in the Year 5 class category and second place in Australia.”

Matific Primary Maths educator Brent Hughes said it had been an epic race to the finish line and that the organ-

isers had received incredible feedback from all involved.

“In fact, in a survey during the competition, after using Matific for only one week 94% of teachers already said

they would recommend Matific, over 90% of students said that they want to keep learning and practicing maths

with Matific and more than 80% of teachers said that more students love maths after playing Matific.”

“Thank you to all the wonderful principals, teachers and students who participated.”

“What an amazing finish for Bungendore and what an incredible effort from all your school. I really want to con-

gratulate you guys on your fantastic work.”

The school has received Matific prize vouchers, certificates and Ted won a Galaxy licence and certificate.

Botanic Gardens and CSIRO Discovery Excursion

Children in Years 3 and 4 from Bungendore Public School have

been on an excursion to the Australian National Botanical

Gardens and the CSIRO Discovery Centre at Black Mountain.

Year 4 student Matthew Forman said the classes were taken

on guided walks through a temperate rainforest area and a

dry bushland area.

“The guide talked to us about the plants and their history and

we saw loads of lizards!” Matthew said.

“At the CSIRO Discovery Centre, we found out that wifi was

developed in Australia by CSIRO scientists. Using iPads, we

scanned QR codes to get questions that took us around the

centre to find the answers. It was a great day and we learned

a lot!”

The students also heard about other CSIRO inventions such

plastic bank notes and Aerogard insect repellent, in what was

a really engaging day of discovery.

“WouldMan” wows Bungendore kids!

“Wouldman is like a super hero. His costume is made of wood

and in it, he would do many things.”

Sydney-based artist Justin Buchta presented his very unique

one-man show, filled with puns, poetry, physical drama and

acrobatics at Bungendore Public School on Friday.

He was also one of the artists at the Wood Dust Festival over

the weekend.

Justin creates original works of theatre for both adults and chil-

dren, and has presented and toured shows for street theatre

festivals in Portugal, the UK and France.

He trained for theatre at the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris,

and is also an alumni of the Sydney College of the Arts, MVA.

Now, he teaches physical drama, specialising in mask, mime

and movement to people of all ages in Australia at the Aus-

tralian Theatre for Young People and NIDA.

Welcome back to term 4 ! I hope you all enjoyed your break. This weekend is the 150years Spring

Fair and our award winning gnomes will be on display for those of you who missed them at Floriade. Just a re-

minder that Remembrance Day is on Sunday 11th November commencing at 10.40am, at the War Memorial

Cenotaph. Notes have gone home with senior children who are presenting speeches on the day. If any Defence

children would like to plant a cross on the day please let me know or call me on 0438157564. Everyone is wel-

come to attend this very special occasion. The post office is once again offering the opportunity for members

within the community to send a Christmas package for an Australian soldier. If you are interested please see

Michelle or Tanya at the post office. Last week at Defence club we had lots of fun making rockets and testing

them out on the town oval. Due to popular demand we will be making them again this

week. Have a great week.

REMEMBRANCE DAY 2018

BUNGENDORE & DISTRICT WAR MEMEORIAL

SUNDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2018—10:40 AM

On Remembrance Day each year, Bungendorians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am to remember those who

died or suffered for Australia’s causer in all wars and armed conflicts.

Since 1947, more than 30,000 Australians have served in over 50 multi-national Peacekeeping operations in which

14 Australians have lost their lives. This year the Remembrance Service will commemorate the service of those

Peacekeepers.

Performing Arts News!

Jackson Dale, in Year 4 at BPS was a member of the amateur mass

ensemble of over 500 performers for the Grease: The Arena Experi-

ence recently held at The AIS Arena in Canberra.

Tell us about it…..Jackson!

“I recently took part in the Grease: The Arena Experi-

ence Canberra production. We did four shows from

Friday the 12th to Sunday the 14th November. The pro-

duction and rehearsal process was very challenging

but totally worth it. I auditioned to be part of the mass

dance and vocal ensemble in December 2017; almost

a year ahead of the show. As part of the mass ensemble we

danced and sang, supporting the principal cast. There were more

than 500 people in the group! The Grease production has travelled

all around Australia and the last show will be in Perth next year. The

first live show I was very excited and nervous, but also had great fun

and was so proud of everything we achieved. When we finished the

last show I felt very sad that it was all over. I’d love to do something

like it again soon. I’m hoping to audition for Charlie and the Choco-

late Factory next!”

Note: there were also a number of other high school students from

our community involved in the show! What an amazing experience!

for them all!

News Flash!!.... We have also just received news that Jackson and his sister Jessica have been accepted into

the ensemble (dancing and singing) group for The Wizard of Oz production in Sydney in 2020! Auditions took place last

week. Well done to both of you!

“We are all very proud of your talent and passion!”, Mrs Lawson, Music Teacher, BPS
