August 26, 2018

Dear Parishioners,

Please know that I am grateful for you words of support and most especially for your prayers for all of the priests of Saint Joseph parish. As difficult as it was for me to have to say the things I said last Sunday, I am sure that it was even more difficult for all of you to hear those things and to have to deal with them. Many of you had expressed that you were on the brink of walking away from the Catholic Church, not your faith but the institutional church. I understand that emotion and I pray for you each and every day. The truth is, my friends, that words are not enough; we must pray to our Lord for the strength to bring about change, real change, change that finds its origin in Jesus and His command that we love one another. These are difficult times to be sure, and I know that trust is something that is earned and not just assumed. As your priests, we pledge to work each day to gain your trust, to keep your trust and to treasure your trust.

The Gospel this weekend is a beautiful summation of the “Bread of Life” Gospels that we have been listening to and praying about, Jesus and Peter have an incredible exchange that for me, sums up so much of what I am feeling at this time, “Jesus then said to the Twelve, Do you also want to leave?" Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and

are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." As I said last weekend, the one thing that will never change is Jesus and His love for us and His desire for us to be His people doing His will in our lives and the lives of all of our brothers and sisters. I believe that with God’s help, the support of a wonderful, faith-filled community and our desire to bring light to the darkness, we will find our way and continue to be God’s people doing God’s will in our world. God bless you my friends, let us pray for one another.

Peace,

Fr. Steve Leva

2018 Missionary Cooperation

Appeal Weekend

This weekend, August 25 & 26.

Help support Fr. Walter Ostrowski from the Divine Word Missionaries who bring the good news of Jesus and much needed material support to every corner of the world.

They are sponsored by the Pontifical Mission Societies, who help build up these churches in 1,111 Dioceses, mostly where Christianity is new. The Societies support these churches until they are self-sufficient. Please pray for the work of this Missionary Group and Missionaries throughout the world & show your generous support.

Facilities Management

Committee Our beautiful parish campus comprises seven (7) distinct facilities: the Church, the convent, the rectory, the parish offices, the school, the parish meeting center, and the cemetery. Seven beautiful sites that the members of our parish have, over the years worked and sacrificed to build and maintain. That is no small accomplishment. As pastor, it is my responsibility to make sure that these facilities are maintained, cleaned, and kept up to date. I need help with this aspect of my ministry and I am hoping to form a Facilities Management Committee. My plan is to form a six-member committee who would work with me to inspect our sites and then make recommendations to me for improvements, maintenance, and safety.

If you have experience in facility management, building construction, heating, plumbing, or electrical knowledge and would consider volunteering some of your time, please email me at [email protected] and let me know you are interested and also give a brief description of your expertise. I appreciate your willingness to consider this ministry and I am grateful for all that our parishioners do for our parish family.

Perpetual Adoration If the Pope himself gave you a special invitation to visit him in the Vatican, this honor would be nothing in comparison to the honor and dignity that Jesus himself bestows upon you with the invitation of spending one hour with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. "The divine Eucharist bestows upon the Christian people the incomparable dignity." (Pope Paul VI, Mysterium Fidei)

If you have never visited our Adoration Chapel, please avail yourself of this special place that we are so lucky to have day and night at our parish. Do you already visit? Our chapel has a steady stream of visitors both day and night. However, there are many hours without a committed adorer, and almost all hours are in need of co-adorers.

Please prayerfully consider committing to an hour or sign up to be a co-adorer.

Sunday, August 19 Regular Collection Total

In today’s Gospel, we hear that a number of Jesus’ followers left Him because His message was too difficult for them to accept. In essence, they did not believe in Him. He then asked the Twelve if they wished to leave as well. Peter responds by making a profound profession of faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Twelve made a choice and stood by their choice, remaining loyal to their commitment to Jesus.

A good question for our reflection might be this: Are we satisfied with the stewardship we exercise over our baptismal commitment? Are we just “along for the ride?” Are we keeping Christ in front of us as we make decisions about our daily activities, our relationships, our parish, issues in the workplace, issues such as peace and justice? What is the quality of our stewardship?

dish, a vegetable, a starch, a salad, and a dessert. • Be part of the team that delivers and serves the meal. We arrive at Safe Harbor at 4 p.m., serve between 4:30 and 5 p.m., then go home. If you are interested in volunteering on a rotating schedule or if you would like to learn more, please contact parishioner Elizabeth Sokol at [email protected]. Our next meal day is Friday,

the Church’s Saint John Neumann Room. Is Our Blessed Mother calling you? Everyone is welcome. For more information please call Jim McGowan at 610-812-4160.

Bridge of Hope In this ministry, parishioners form teams to sponsor a single mother facing homelessness. The team provides friendship to the woman and her family by taking turns calling her, spending time together, and being a reliable support structure at a time when she most needs encouragement.

The Mission of

Joseph’s People Since 1995, we have been helping the unemployed and underemployed people in our parish. We are looking for a few good folks to step up and help us. It’s not hard. We hold just two meetings each month, the second and fourth Tues. from 7:00 to 9:00. If you have some HR experience, or are an employer, or just have a good heart, you can help.

Please reach out to Cheryl Spaulding 610.304.4010 or email her at [email protected] Our mission is only as strong as those who support it. Please support us.
