September 2, 2018 Dear Parishioners,
Well it had to happen — summer is coming to a close and soon, very soon if it has not happened already, all of our children will return to school. As I look back on my life over this past summer it has been quite a whirlwind. In some ways it still feels as if I just arrived here at St. Joseph’s but in many other ways it feels just like home and I like that feeling. I pray that this summer afforded all of us time to rest and relax and maybe even have a little vacation; it is so important for us to be able to back away once in a while from the many obligations and responsibilities that fill our lives from day to day. Now, let’s get to it and bring on the Fall!
I thank you, my friends, for making me feel so welcomed here at St. Joseph’s, I know that we have had our challenges and that things have been difficult. I appreciate the many ways you allow God’s grace to fill your hearts and choose to be a source of God’s love and forgiveness to one another even in the face of personal sadness or pain. Because we are a community of faith-filled disciples who love Jesus, we seek forgiveness and offer that same forgiveness to those we encounter. God is so good, my friends; He loves us without condition and calls us to desire to love one another in exactly the same way. As we move into a new season of the year, let us recommit ourselves to work for the good of all people by bringing the light of Christ to our families, friends, and co-workers, to everyone. God bless you.
On this Labor Day weekend we pray:
Lord on this Labor Day, we thank You for the blessing of work.
We ask for strength to complete each day.
We ask for rest when we are weary.
We ask Your guidance for everyone seeking employment,
and we ask that You be with those whose faces
we might never see but who work tirelessly each day for the good of us all.
Amen.
Peace, Fr. Steve Leva

Facilities Management
Committee Our beautiful parish campus comprises seven (7) distinct facilities: the Church, the convent, the rectory, the parish offices, the school, the parish meeting center, and the cemetery. Seven beautiful sites that the members of our parish have, over the years worked and sacrificed to build and maintain. That is no small accomplishment. As pastor, it is my responsibility to make sure that these facilities are maintained, cleaned, and kept up to date. I need help with this aspect of my ministry and I am hoping to form a Facilities Management Committee. My plan is to form a six-member committee who would work with me to inspect our sites and then make recommendations to me for improvements, maintenance, and safety. If you have experience in facility management, building construction, heating, plumbing, or electrical knowledge and would consider volunteering some of your time, please email me at [email protected] and let me know you are interested and also give a brief description of your expertise. I appreciate your willingness to consider this ministry and I am grateful for all that our parishioners do for our parish family.
Thank You from the
Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus council thanks those who participated in the 2018 Change for Life program. Through your efforts we have raised over $6,500 which will help fund buses in January to the 2019 March for Life in Washington, DC with any extra going towards local pro-life causes. Please return any unfilled baby bottles to the parish office as each empty bottle means one less replacement bottle we have to purchase next year. Your returned bottle counts as $1.00 donation back to pro-life. You may still put change in it for the cause and return it to the same place, though it may count towards next year's fundraiser.
Thank You A word of thanks to all of those who volunteer their time and efforts to make our gardens and grounds look so beautiful. This is no small job and I am grateful to the dedicated women and men who roll their sleeves up, get in there and pull weeds, trim bushes and the many other jobs that keep us looking great! Thank you so much and God bless you for all you do.

Community Festival Wrap-up
and Next Year’s Kickoff The Festival Committee reported a successful 2018 St. Joseph Community Festival and passed on $25,000 in profits to the parish. After a record year in 2017, including great weather all 5 days, this year’s profits were just slightly lower. I thank all those who volunteered and made this event successful. I can’t wait to show my extended family the faith and stewardship in action in this vibrant parish at next year’s event.
The new Festival year starts in September and with input from the current Board, I am happy to introduce the following parishioners as members of the Festival 2019 Board of Directors: Teri Jenkins, Kevin Jenkins, Jack Ousey, Dennis Calvey, David McDonald, Chris Grove,
Karen Dawson, Nancy McFalls, Trish Reid, Joan
Angiulo, Donna DiBerardinis. Please wish them well in governing this complex endeavor. I encourage all with an interest to participate in the General Festival meetings announced in upcoming bulletins and the festival website throughout the year. The 2019 Festival is slated for Tuesday June 18 through Saturday June 22 with fireworks expected on Friday evening.
