DESCRIPTION
Presented as part of the Side Event at CFS 41: "Collaboration-Led Waste Reduction: From Producer to Consumer". In Sweden, Government policy supporting collaborations intended to reduce food waste and production losses has been a great success. In part, due to the specific policy for Global Development (PGD) which supports the creation of platforms for knowledge exchange and multi-sectoral collaboration. National targets for food waste
Proposed milestone target for food waste:“The food waste will by 2020 be reduced by at least 20%, compared to 2010,
overall for the entire food chain, except primary production. In primary
production an action plan to reduce the production losses should be set up by
2016.”
Milestone target to utilise energy from food waste:“Measures must be taken by 2018 so that at least 50 percent of food waste from
households, shops and restaurants is sorted out and treated biologically so that
nutrients are utilized, and at least 40 percent of food waste is treated so that the
energy is recovered.”
