The Story of Eyeglasses

Some young people recognize in a moment of their life that they need to wear eyeglasses, and also think that they will look too older, unattractive, too serious, etc, but eyeglasses are important to wear because they improve eyesight.

Many think that eyeglasses originated in the Roman Empire with a tale of the emerald of Emperor Nero, then in Europe, even in China, and in the time of the Aztecs, which used topaz to correct vision.

Earliest form of glass includes emeralds and topaz, along with the fusion of sodium carbonate with sand by fire. Manufactured glass is mentioned in the bible and in ancient Egypt.

Early version of lenses included the loupe (magnifying glass), the monocle (for one eye), and the spectacles (lenses for two eyes); this was the style in the thirteenth century. Eighteenth century styles included the side pieces that rest in our ears, made of wood, leather, fish bone or horn. Later, gold, silver and other metals were used to make frames.
