With fixed rate mortgages still carrying high, upfrontarrangement fees, one local lender continues tochampion a simple mortgage product withconsistently one of the lowest standard variablerates available in the UK.
Stafford Railway Building Society has just oneresidential mortgage product for purchases, capitalraising and remortgages (from 3.49% standardvariable rate, overall cost for comparison 3.60%APR*) but it has no arrangement fees, earlyrepayment charges or tie-in periods – and you’re freeto make overpayments at any time without worryingabout any additional charges.
Society Chief Executive, Susan Whiting, explains:“Many people are enticed by the fixed rate productand their apparent discounts - which do seemgenerous on the face of it - but are often left worseoff and stuck with a deal that just isn’t right for them. With a highly competitive standard variable rate likeours there are no hidden extras and if you stay with itover a number of years it can be much morebeneficial.
Society Mortgages Manager, Adrian Phipps, adds:“With thousands of different mortgages to choose

There iseven a guarantor option which enables your familyor friends to help if you do not have a large enoughdeposit.

Berkswich Under 13s are managed by AdrianMarsden and are coached by Andy Jones, Theteam plays on a 11- aside football on a Sundayafternoon in the Mid-Staffs Junior League,Premier Division.
The majority of the team joined as under 7s backin 2008 and have stayed with the team ever since, the team has achieved notable success both onand off the field and has celebrated 2 leaguechampionships and appeared in 3 cup finalssince they started playing competitive football in2010.
Off the field the boys have enjoyed numerousevents including the Stafford Fun Run (Twice)ten-pin bowling and this year we took part in anend of season tour to Minehead in Somerset. 43of us (including parents and brothers & sisters)enjoyed the Mayday bank holiday playing in atournament against five other teams from acrossEngland, we won four of our games and lost onefinishing second in the tournament. The highlight
for the boys (and their parents) was to have theirtrophies presented to them by former Liverpooland England player John Barnes at an officialpresentation evening.
The under 13s has 15 players registered for theseason 2014-15 and although this is the boys firstreal taste of 11 aside football we all look forwardwith a fair deal of optimism for more success.
More off-field events are planned for 2014-15including the Stafford Fun Run and potentially anoverseas tour being planned for May 2015
The team is currently without a sponsor, so anysupport that can be offered will gratefullyreceived.

LocaL StaFFoRd aUthoR JeSSica coLeManLocal writerJessica GraceColeman was bornin Stafford andraised in thenearby village ofLittle Haywood, aplace which hasnow beenremodelled intoBeth Powers’
home village in Jessica’s ‘Little Forest’ series ofparanormal mystery novels.
The Former World is the first book in the series. Itfollows twenty-one year old Beth Powers as shestruggles to uncover the truth about the death ofa colleague, whose body is found early onemorning in the beautiful Great Specton Woods. This apparently accidental death sets off the smallcommunity’s well-oiled rumour mill, and Bethsoon finds herself in the middle of a bizarre villageconspiracy. Potential suspects start appearing inall shapes and sizes, and with the police refusingto consider murder, Beth takes it upon herself toinvestigate.
The Former World is reminiscent of a goodold-fashioned English mystery, updated to thetwenty-first Century but still relying on the quaintlocations of the beautiful English countryside:close-knit villages, local pubs, ancient castles, large, looming forests and magnificent Statelyhomes.
Inspired by Stafford’s rich – and slightly sinister –history, Jessica started adding elements from thearea into her books, from places (such asShugborough Hall, which inspired ChillingsleyHall, Stafford Castle, which influenced the areaaround Little Forest Castle, and Cannock Chase, which pops up as the Great Specton Woods) tostories (the series explores similar tales to those
of the dark life story of William Palmer and the‘haunted’ locations which are linked to him).Jessica has so far released four novels in theLittle Forest series: The Former World, MementoMori, The Exalted and Carnival Masquerade, andshe is soon to release the fifth, The Gloaming. Shehas also released a collection of short storiesentitled Grown By The Wicked Moon and isplanning more collections and novels for releasein 2015.
A fan of all kinds of writing, Jessica has recentlybecome a freelance editor and ghostwriter, working on a wide range of projects fromproofreading and editing novels to helping clientsget their life stories down on paper.

Fitness means to be able and means differentthings to different people.
With some people it might mean to be able to runa mile/marathon or to someone else recoveringfrom injury. To someone else it could just be ableto climb a set of stairs. The list and variety goeson.
Here are some tips to encourage you in yourfitness goals.
1. Set yourself goals of what you want to achieve. For some people this mean be able to walk to theend of the street, run a mile etc. Whatever yourgoal is, make sure it is realistic and achievable.
2. Once you’ve decided on your goal, you needa plan on how to achieve it. Think about thesethings.
• How many times per week you can train. However don’t go mad here. Be sensible andrealistic otherwise you may not achieve yourgoal. Vary each session.• Once you’ve decided how often you are goingto train, decide what you are going do in thesessions.• Have a plan for each session. Ensure you havevariety.• Ensure your plan is progressive and that youcan measure it. For example, Press upsYour goal is to do 1 set of 10 full press ups.Week 1 & 2 - 10 box press ups.
Week 3 & 4 - 2 full press ups, 8 box press ups.Over the following weeks you increase thenumber of full press up until you achieve 10 pressups.• Change your routines about every 6 to 8weeks. The body and mind get used to doing thesame thing. These need to be stimulated. This iswhere many people fail because the routines arenot changed and therefore give up.
4. Be prepared to adjust your goals. This is fine.
5. Warm up. This prepares the body and mind forexercise. By warming up it increases thetemperature of your body and warms themuscles. Walk, bike, cross trainer or gentle jog toincrease your temperature and some mobilisationexercises.
6. Cool down/stretch off.Why should you cool down and stretch at the endof training session or game? One of the most important functions of thepost-exercise cool down is to prevent dizziness.Strenuous exercise causes the blood vessels inyour legs to expand, bringing more blood into thelegs and feet. When you stop exercising suddenlywithout taking time to cool down, your heart rateslows abruptly and that blood can pool in yourlower body, causing dizziness and even fainting.Slowly bring your heart down, gentle jog or evena walk. Stretch out the main areas slowly. Startat the top and body and work down. Hold eachstretch for about 12 to 15 seconds.

Girls from Brocton Brownies took part in a hugecamp at Beaudesert Park as part of an extra-special under-canvas adventure to mark 100years of Brownies.
Brocton Brownies, all aged seven to 10, joinedmore than 270 other girls from 1st to 5th Augustto celebrate The Big Brownie Birthday withCosmic – a massive girl-only camp packed fullof adventurous activities, birthday fun and thechance to meet new friends.
The chance to spend four consecutive nightsunder canvas at a large-scale event was aonce-in-a-lifetime experience, and - for manygirls- the first time they had stayed away fromhome.
The girls enjoyed a range of exciting, adrenaline-
fuelled activities, including climbing, slipperypole, giant slide and campfire cooking.
The activities were drawn from the BrownieAdventure programme, which builds girls’confidence and self-esteem, encourages them tobecome active citizens and learn about the widerworld and gives them a space to have fun and bethemselves with other girls.
2014 has seen Girlguiding members from all overthe UK take part in sleepovers, camps andholidays in unexpected places to celebrate the100th birthday of Brownies.
Hannah from Brocton Brownies said: ‘The campwas awesome’ and Izzie said: ‘My favouriteactivity was the slippery pole – I got soaked whenI fell in!’
Leader Sally added: “We all had a great time, theBrownies made new friends and had great funtaking part in exciting activities”

Five years ago, we were two overweightladies in our mid-sixties who were reluctantto exercise publicly. After seeing an advertfor Hydro Health, we decided that we wouldgive Aquafit a try. Neither of us wereswimmers and were a little apprehensive, however Dawn at Hydro Health assured usthat the ability to swim was not necessary.
From the moment we went into theblissfully warm 34°c water we were hooked. As you enter the water you cannot help butsay “aarh” as the warmth envelops you.
All exercises are done to music, carefullychosen for the beat and character to matchthe specific exercise. Being in water enablesyou to move in a way which is not possible onland. Joints and muscles can be exercisedwithout strain and no stiffness is felt over thefollowing days.
Another option available at Hydro Healthis WATSU (water shiatsu). My friends say“whatso?” I attend WATSU every other weekalong with weekly Aquafit sessions.During a one-to-one Watsu with Dawn, sheslowly, carefully and gently manoeuvres andmassages your limbs and body. Veryquickly you feel relaxed. Sometimes I almostfall asleep!
What do these sessions mean for me?
It’s now five years since we first started atAquafit and our lives are very different now.My friend has dementia but still enjoys andparticipates in the Aquafit exercises eventhough she sometimes adapts them to suither needs. I am also now a carer for myhusband who has Parkinson’s and early
dementia. It is vital, as a carer that I keep asfit as possible. As we get older some of ushave aches and pains which slow us downand limit our flexibility. I find Aquafit a greathelp in keeping me mobile. Also as a carer Ineed some “me” time. Caring for aParkinson’s sufferer is demanding bothphysically and emotionally. This is where Ihave found Watsu to be invaluable.Supported and floated in the warm water byDawn my advanced Watsu practitioner, in aquiet, calm atmosphere, transports me awayfrom my worries. I relax completely as shegently manipulates my body and limbs.
The feel good factor sets me up ready to facemy role as a carer again and the benefits lastfor days beyond the Watsu session.
Dawn Watts, proprietor of Hydro Health says“When the primary person is at their mosttuned and with optimal function, it isinevitable that the positive impact followsalong the human chain whether in theworkplace, or at home. This is a perfectexample”.
“Registration is now available for bookingour September Aquafit and Water Weeniescourses, come and join us”.
