THE LESSONREADER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the Acts of the

Apostles Chapter 13 beginning at the 15th verse

After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it." So Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said: "Men of Israel, and you that fear God, listen. Brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation. For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognise him nor understand the utterances of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning him. Though they could charge him with nothing deserving death, yet they asked Pilate to have him killed. And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead; and for many days he appeared to those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people. And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, `Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee.'

Psalm 100 Jubilate Deo 1 Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; * serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song. 2 Know this: The Lord himself is God; * he himself has made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

3 Enter his gates with thanksgiving;go into his courts with praise; * give thanks to him and call upon his Name. 4 For the Lord is good;his mercy is everlasting; * and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Ame

THE EPISTLEA Reading from the Word of God written in the Revelation to John Chapter 7 beginning at the 9th verseAfter this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb!" And all the angels stood round the throne and round the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen." Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, clothed in white robes, and whence have they come?" I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night within his temple; and he who sits upon the throne will shelter them with his presence. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."Reader: Here ends the Reading.ALL: Thanks be to God.

THE HOLY GOSPEL

Gospeller: The Lord be with youALL: And also with you

Gospeller: A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to JohnALL: Glory to Christ our Saviour.

It was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon.   So the Jews gathered round him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."  Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness to me;  but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep.   My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;   and I give them eternal

life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.  I and the Father are one." Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ.ALL: Praise to Christ our Lord.

From the Rector’s Notebook:

Our Parish Conference which was held last Saturday (April 13) was a wonderful experience for the people of God engaged in the work of ministry and the building up of the body of Christ.

There was an excellent spirit of togetherness and cooperation and we pray for the plans that were made which will soon be made known.

We thank Dr. Wendy Sealy, the newly appointed Chief Nursing Officer, for a sterling Keynote Address and for excellently setting the tone for the day as she spoke on the theme of “wholeness”.

Mr. Tony Kirton skillfully took us through the day’s proceedings which included presentations done on the Financial side of wholeness by Mr. Cecil Collymore and Ms. Julia Weekes, Plans for the church Hall by George Holder, Use of Social Media by Shannon Clarke, and then I spoke of my vision for the organisations of the church.

The aim of the event which was first initiated on Saturday 1st March, 2008, is intended to help us in the understanding that we are the church together and that God has called each one of us to ministry.

The objective is for each and every one of us to accept the responsibility given to us by Christ to be servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. (1 Corinthians 4:1).

I am convinced that the work of the church is not limited to what is done by clergy; but that rather, all the baptised are called to priestly ministry and service.

The manifestation of church at the parish level will be strong and vibrant when we all exercise an apostolate.

It will be necessary to meet in order to discuss and examine what we have been doing, and determine the way we perceive God almighty to be directing us, in order to move forward with a collective vision and with greater sense of purpose.

Such an approach not only makes good practical common sense; but also follows the example firstly of Jesus and secondly of first Apostles who from time to time would come together to make major decisions.

Let me express thanks to the organising committee of this year’s conference: Mrs. Muriel Niles (Co-Ordinator) and Members- Mr. William Jones, Ms. Dionne Welch, Mr. Bradston Clarke, Mr. Cecil Collymore, Mr. Anthony Kirton and Mrs. Cynthia Reid.

May God in Christ continue to bless us as we listen to the voice of the Good Shepherd and follow where he leads.

Your friend and priest,

Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon)Rector
