As one door closes though, another one opens and I am very much looking forward to my retirement with my husband, and the important time it will give us with our family. There are numerous wonderful people who have contributed so much during my time at this school. There are parents, community members, retired teachers, representatives from service organisations and a host of other volunteers who give willingly of their time, their expertise and their wisdom. My many thanks to each and every one of them. This school has many fine assets in terms of dedicated staff. Their work on a daily basis with our most precious asset, the children, cannot be underestimated. Schools are busy places with a diversity of students who have a huge range of needs. Trying to meet these needs in a meaningful way requires commitment, hard work and lots of care. Thank you to the staff who give their best. And finally, thank you to the students. Every day I am greeted by a sea of smiling faces and a sense of that eagerness to learn. Some days are more productive than others for some of our students, but there is always a bright spot for them along the way. I am keen to follow the fortunes of the students as they progress from here to high school, and into the community beyond. I wish each and every one of them well. Congratulations to our award recipients from today’s PB Assembly. They are worthy and deserving of recognition, and great examples for the student body. Aboriginal stories such as “How the Birds Got Their Colours” and “Enora and the Black Crane”.

We have talked about healthy foods and why we need to eat these foods.

We have been making patterns. We have made threading patterns and block patterns.

These are some of our patterns.

(Unfortunately some of us were away or working in other parts of the school.)

Tenterfield Community Gardens - ‘The Outdoor Classroom’

On Friday afternoons, infants students involved in the Early Action for Success program have ventured to

the Tenterfield Community Gardens with Mr Thomas. Students have used this opportunity to learn about local food

production, from sowing seeds to watering, weeding and nurturing a wide range of fruit and vegetables. The final

part of the production cycle is harvesting and the students have enjoyed devouring fresh strawberries, corn,

radishes, capsicums, tomatoes, beans, snow peas and a variety of other tasty, fresh produce.

The students then use this knowledge to complete a range of literacy activities in the classroom.

Here is what some of the students have said;

“I love eating the juicy, red strawberries.” “Mr Thomas made yummy popcorn to share with us.”

“I enjoyed planting and eating the broccoli.” “The tomatoes and capsicums were delicious. I took some home to share with my family.” “The beautiful sunflowers were covered in bees. I gave some to my teacher, Miss Rivett.”

“It is fun to water the plants and watch them grow.” “We harvested the pumpkins and Mr Thomas let us take them home. Mum made some pumpkin soup.”

Multicultural perspectives public speaking

Last Wednesday Amelia Wishart travelled to Ross Hill Public School, Inverell to compete in the junior zone

final of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition. In the final Amelia competed against eight

other Grade 3 and 4 students from Moree, Ross Hill, North Star and Gum Flat Public Schools. The students had to

speak in a large hall in front of parents, students and an adjudicator. Firstly Amelia presented her prepared speech

on the topic, “The Same but Different”, which lasted for just under 3 minutes. In the second part of the

competition, students were given 5 minutes to prepare an impromptu speech on the topic, “Lies”. The adjudicator

was impressed with the content of Amelia’s prepared speech and she was able to include humour in her speech to

get a laugh out of the audience which is a great achievement for a young public speaker. Well done Amelia!
